Official GWJFFL 2008 Interest and Setup Thread

Logan's Heroes are in.

Here's the official list so far.

Of last year's 20 managers (there were 24 teams, but 4 managers doubled-up counting Certis taking over for Gamerdad), 13 have declared their intent to return, 1 (*cough*Certis*cough*) has dropped, and the rest are unaccounted for.

Assuming there are no more returning managers (though I suspect there may be 1 or 2*), we have 11 slots open for expansion teams. (Depending on the site/software, this may drop to 10 if I have to own a team in the second league in order to run it.) Of those, 6 have been applied for. Essentially, there are 4 or 5 my slots open at the moment.

Important dates:

7/25 - *The deadline for reclaiming your team is 11:59 pm on Friday, 7/25. Come Saturday, all players who sign up will be added to the bottom of the waiting list. Do that by posting in this thread.

7/29 - For returning managers, the deadline to request a division/league change is 11:59 pm on Tuesday, 7/29. Do this via PM. You don't have to wait to put in your request but it won't be reviewed until I see how many and what slots are open on 7/26.

7/31 - The deadline for signing up is 11:59 pm on Thursday, 7/31. After that, I'll start looking for owners willing to double-up if not all slots are filled. This is also the deadline for specific slot requests. If you're a new manager and would like to request a league/division, PM me your top 3 choices, in order of preference.

August To-Do (open topics for discussion)
* Pick a site
* Pick draft dates
* Discuss potential rules changes, if any

I feel like I'm forgetting something but it's late and I'm tired. G'night.

To help me with the divisional makeup, I've put together a map of the current GWJFFL teams by geography.

I'll do one for GWJFFL2 once it's firmed up. (Expect some realignment.)

Nice Grump!

Grump, by the time the season starts, I'm going to be living in Hollywood. Might as well move me on the map over there.

Done

7/26 update.

5 managers did not reclaim their team before the deadline. Including the slots occupied by *Legion*'s and Minase's "second" teams and the one Certis vacated, 8 slots were made available for the 2008 season (not counting the one in GWJFFL2 that I'll probably have to fill in order to moderate it). Those slots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Therefore, the 6 expansion teams that have already been requested thus far are all been accepted. We have 2 slots that remain available through 7/31.

By request, Blacksheep's PUP list, the highest rated team in GWJFFL2 at the end of last year's regular season, has moved from GWJFFL2 to GWJFFL. (There go my designs of a Dallas Division in GWJFFL2. ;)) There remains one slot open in the league that *Legion* considers to be the "Division 1" so PM me (by 7/29) if you want to "move up" as well.

Just to reiterate, the last 2 slots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis so if you know of any GWJ'ers who might be interested but have somehow missed this thread, drop them a line and get them to post.

Edit: As promised, here's the GWJFFL2 map as it currently stands.

I love the map man. You can make a Texarkana or Texahoma division to include my team instead of a dallas division :). Right now my team is in training camp in their OKC camp.

Ah, you'll be fine Grumps -- there's no way I draft as good as I did. Lightning in a bottle, last year.

That's awesome that we've got everything set out according to local areas -- maybe we can get together (though I know Texas is a biiiig place) and have some watching parties over the course of the season.

It is my pleasure to announce that the GWJFFL is now full. Old Man's Depends, last year's GWJFFL2 Super Bowl winner, has "moved up" by request. Although I didn't implement an "official" relegation formula, I'm also pleased that my personal preference - moving up the regular season and post-season champs - has come to pass anyway.

With these moves, a bit of realignment became necessary in the GWJFFL (if only for my personal amusement ;)):
* Elliottx's Hiros (Vancouver, WA) moved from the West Division to the North Division.
* Stricniners (San Diego, CA) moved from the South Division to the West Division.
* Blacksheep's PUP list (Forth Worth, TX) joined the GWJFFL as a member of the South Division.

* Bagga's Titz (NC) moved from the South Division to the East Division in the slot previously occupied by The Minnesota Manglers.
* Old Man's Depends (Watauga, TX) joined the GWJFFL as a member of the South Division.

Factoids:
* The West Division is now entirely populated by Californians.
* The South Division is now entirely populated by Texans.
* I'm now stuck in the South Division with last season's GWJFFL2 regular-season champ and Super-Bowl champ.

The GWJFFL map has been updated, complete with Divisional color-coding.

2 slots remain open in GWJFFL2.

Well there are 3 of y'all in Dallas, at least.

"Dallas" -- ugh.

Watauga, now that fine city is about 15 minutes from me.

Sorry. DFW.

My wife is interested in playing fantasy football this year. So I could take one of the open teams as her proxy if that's ok.

Sure, Stric9. I'll keep that in mind if we don't get any more sign-ups by Thursday... unless, of course, she were to create an account and claim a slot herself.

Got a friend who may be interested. Hoping he'll create the account and sign up :(.

I don't know about "fine," but it is definitely a city. Watching party sounds cool, perhaps a DFW S&T during the season.

Something we'll definitely have to get rolling. I live near downtown FW, so charging up 121 toward the HEB area or I35 isn't so much an issue. Just got to settle on a good locale, is all

I'm going to be on the road Thursday, so I've extended the deadline to Friday, Also, if you're watching the spreadsheet, you'll notice I've added 2 alternate slots. Last year, we had 2 teams go AWOL so even if the league fills up, we may (but hopefully won't) need some replacement managers.

Im in if theirs an open slot

Still a slot open?

Looks like we've got the last 2 slots filled. There are still 2 (or more) alternate slots if anyone wants to sign up. Also, alternates will automatically be top of the expansion list for next year's league.

Well sh*t, it's sure going to be hard to go with the standard NSEW divisions for GWJFFL2.

Edit: Map updated. I threw the 3 returning veterans (not counting myself) into the same division (which ended up being the "West" division by process of elimination) and the rest just worked itself out.

Here's the makeup of the GWJFFL for 2008. (I'll update the spreadsheet with team names as I find them out.)

So... what site gets the honor of hosting us this year?

I'd say FleaFlicker. I'm a tad annoyed with some yet-to-be-implemented features there, but FleaFlicker looks to be an ideal long-term choice.

In the meantime, I BEG everyone to take FleaFlicker's online survey and vote Blind Bidding as a must-have feature! Do it on multiple browsers, multiple PCs, get your mom to do it too... help clue these fools in PLEASE.

Done. But what does "Adjusting the flag system." mean?

It's a feedback system for FleaFlicker users, a way to mark the bad seeds so other public league owners can be warned, etc.

I haven't run a FleaFlicker league yet, so I don't know any more detail than that.

I just spent an hour on the beach talking to a woman in a bikini about RB picks. Its football season.

Did you make her fill out the FleaFlicker survey?

Err, I mean, pics or it didn't happen!

Damn it's quiet in here. I guess you folks don't really care where we play.

Ok, then, I'll tap the newbies. Post your team names so we can admire your creativity... or mock your lack thereof.

(If any vets are renaming their teams, feel free to post, too, and I'll update the maps.)
