Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Catch-All

Pages

Might as well kick this one off as we get closer to its September release. The Force.net has previews of all three major versions and according to the article on the 360/PS3 versions, there's something in the game that will likely turn people away from TFU right off the bat:

Also during our battle, we would occasionally lock sabers - this would trigger a quick-time event similar to the quick button presses in God of War.

QTE's are such a hot-button topic around here, generating enough gallons of bile and vitriol to fill a fleet of tanker trucks. On the other hand, some don't see them as much different than minigames, in that it's under the umbrella of anything that takes the player out of the main part of the game. People either hate them or tolerate them; few at all love them. I can only imagine the reaction that this news will generate.

I will say I love the idea of QTE instead of a god damn button mashing contest.

<--- can't button mash for crap

if it's a story i'm engaged in i like QTEs. If i think it's total crap it's an annoyance.

I believe that I will survive the horrors of the QTE and bask in the succulent temptations of the dark side, slinging Wookies about like the fur bags they are.

If the QTEs are like the God of War ones (at a predictable time, with reasonable logic behind them), I think they'd be quite a good way of resolving saber locks. I only get my bile on with the RE4-esque "Surprise! Press a button not to die in this custscene!" QTEs.

The trailers for this game look like distilled hotness. Can't wait to see how the game turns out!

From the what I've read about the new MotionPlus, they need to delay Force Unleashed for the Wii until Spring 2k9.

They could force me into self fellatio and I would play this game. Slinging around ragdoll wimps using massive amounts of pure, condensed awesome will be worth it.

Force unleashed for the Wii? Gross!

You do realize that you kind of contribute to most of the "worrying" aspect, right?

That's what I began to realize after I posted that, and I began wondering if that would be gay...

I don't really follow. Doesn't every teenage boy dream about being able to do that?

Just keep the QTEs out of major cinematics, and we'll get along fine.

The problem with the QTEs in God of War is that you miss a lot of the pretty stuff because you're intently watching for the next button to pop-up. Well, or you're dying because you missed it.

Actually, I think he just forgot a comma.

According to Kinsey, 7% of males seriously try, and less than 1% succeed.

After some deliberation I have come to the conclusion that it's not gay, even if it's a little weird. It's only gay if balls touch.

Look over there! It's the track this thread needs to be on.

Spoil sport.

But I have to repeat this since I can't stop laughing.

It would take more than some QTEs for me to skip this one. I'm a huge fan of the original trilogy. Yes I hate QTE and don't really understand the reason developers keep using them. Is it because mashing a button to break a sword lock is old hat these days, or displays a lack of developer talent in the modern era? But as I said before that will not be able to drag me away from the play I have seen so far and an apparently well done story.

This clip on Game Trailers looks awesome. I hope this is not a pre-rendered scene, but actual gameplay footage instead. Being able to absolutely man-handle my opponents and smash them into the ground during a light saber duel would be frickin' sweet.

Impressive...

Most impressive...

Awesome. I didn't even realize there was going to be a demo.

I have had my eye on this one for a while. I am looking forward to taking the demo for a spin and seeing how it handles.

All your enhanced force powers are belong to me. Mwahahaha.

Giggity!

i've played the ps3 version of Soul caliber. The Apprentice and Darth Vader are really well done. It looks like the Apprentice will be a cool character to play.

woot!

Pessimistic hypothesis : Soul Calibur IV will do the character more credit than Force Unleashed. I Hope I'm wrong.

From a gameplay video I saw, it looks like they're required to finish boss battles, God of War-style. If that's true, count me out.

I can't do them without flubbing up many, many, many times, and won't even bother buying games that are going to be nothing but frustration. Boss battles are annoying already without having to go through them multiple times because a developer doesn't grasp basic design concepts.
