Madden 2009 Online League *Renamed*

As a quick note - different teams develop the two games. In some cases they have similar game elements - NCAA does play different then Madden. When the time comes to play - we will see who is still in. I always get the game and even if I play through a couple of seasons in Franchise mode - I am usually happy.

I'm skeptical at best. As I just posted in the NCAA thread, if Madden is anything like that game, I'm probably out. What worries me, is that it felt an awfully lot like last year's Madden to me. That went back to the store quickly.

I'm definitely going to check the game out, as a league with a bunch of folks from here would be a blast. But we're finishing our third season, and will be kicking up a fourth by the time Madden comes out. The difference is, APFB is just fun. EA has been turning out games I have to put up with, not look forward to.

Also, after reading a preview for Madden in Game Informer, it didn't exactly excite me. It making the same mistake 2K5 made. One division for every team. Half the teams make the playoffs. That's right, no divisions. What is up with that? I know that 2K did the same things, but what is the point about being excited about new rosters if they cannot even let you set up divisions?

I'm not sure if anyone noticed this, but the Madden 09 Collector's edition through EA's website (maybe retail as well, not sure) for $89.99 also includes NFL Head Coach 09 (supposedly much improved) and allows you to 'Seamlessly integrate user-created plays into Madden NFL 09'.

At $89.99, it's not a bad deal. I don't think I can make the time commitment for a league (especially with the Hawks already taken!), but maybe I'll get to play a few of you one-on-one.

I saw that and it is available at other retailers as well. I have seen conflicting word that user defined plays would be available to play in online games and then I saw somewhere else that thwy would not be. Having your own "personal" playbook would be awesome!

I doubt that. One of the problems we faced in the online league of the FBPro 98 days were custom plays that broke the AI. We would only allow custom plays made by certain reputable folks, and these were shared by everyone. We then kept track of plays to see how they performed, and eliminated any that were too successful. I think that would be way too much work for this game.

Sad thing is, I'd be kind of interested in a good version of NFL Head Coach more than Madden. But it won't be sold separately, which tells me just how good this game will be. I don't know, maybe it will be like Portal, except you actually have to pay more for it!

The more I read about Madden, the more disgusted I get. Holodeck football?

I almost hate to help EA with a sale, but according to their site it will be sold separately on Sept. 2.

Spynavy, I will take the NY Giants if they're open

I don't know if anyone here is interested or not, but you can pre-order Madden 09 from nflshop.com with $15 off (+$5.00 shipping) with the promo code NFLEXTRA25

Basically, you can get Madden 09 for $50. I'm not sure how shipping will work. You might get it right away or you might have to wait a week or so.

I'm losing track. Jayhawker, you want the Chiefs, yes? Are the Jets spoken for? Cowboys and Pats?

Sorry I was away for a couple of weeks -

The Patsies and Jets remain available. I think DS is dropping out so that may free the Vikings. Other online fan faves that remain open are Green Bay (with or without Favre remains to be seen), Tennessee, the Redskins, and Baltimore.

I will be picking this up, probably. And I always play the Pats. I would take that slot provisionally until I see whether or not this pans out.

Yes. Consider the Vikings freed. I was going to pick up NCAA, but after spending some time with it and then going back to 2k, I just can't stomach the idea of paying for a copy. Pool your money and send me one and I might join.

Me too. I tried the NCAA demo a second time, and I just cannot stomach the gameplay. I don't think I am going to be able to fork over $$$ for an EA football game. I'd rather download updated rosters for 2K5 at this point.

So consider Arizona freed. The Gunslingers will be entering their fourth season in the GWL Legends league. Yes, I wish APFB had real rosters, and even a decent franchise mode would be cool. But gameplay is king, and I have no desire to settle for something that is just flat out not fun to play, just to have real rosters.

YOU CAN'T F*CKING EAT EVERYTHING, YOU DAMN F*CKING DOG!!!

Game, set and match.

Looks like we've got a nice list of participants for Madden. I recognize some of you from the All-Pro league, looking forward to finally seeing real teams and current players in an online league.

No way, tool. If I cared about stuff like that going on in my home I'd have hung myself a long time ago.

The new Flip-flops arrived by UPS yesterday. We're both out of trouble (I got in trouble for leaving them where he could eat them)

I'm in for sure

Any word on if those of us that like to run the ball will be happier with the O-line blocking?

Can I have The Jets

Put me in for the Pack

I am a Giant fan, but Kush already asked for them. So I will settle for the Jets.
