Speaking personally, it's pretty much all about gaming with my friends, or at least gaming with like-minded people. If I had a choice between Rock Band with some random jerk or reading a book, it's the book in a heartbeat. Hell, I'd probably do the dishes rather than play a game with someone I don't like.

Actually for me that's a tossup. I really hate doing dishes.

Doing dishes is a game I don't like.

You can get out of it if you pass the persuasion check.

Sure, passing a persuasion check will let you avoid the penalty, but you don't get the persistent SO rep bonus modifier that way.

This might be the nerdiest discussion I've seen in awhile.

Have you read the last podcast thread? The discussion of decimation definitely challenges this.

That's true, although I've always considered RPG talk to be a more pure form of nerdy than etymology. Etymology is studied by scholars; D&D seems to be the exclusive demesne of geeks.

I'll be working on changing that as soon as I've taken the GRE.

I just like nesting quotes. Is that wrong?

Nope.

I for one am glad about that. Because right now nesting quotes is keeping me away from my dishes.

Okay, I've lost track of who I'm replying to. Fair enough on the etymology point. I would say etymology is geeky, whereas RPG talk is more nerdy.

A fun show guys!

Regarding LAN parties, it's definitely true that the larger it is the less personal it is. Around the turn of the millennium we were running parties that varied between 50 to 120 people. But I think it's the good smaller tight-knit 10 to 20 person parties that you really remember.

Timely subject, a guy I know in Florida is trying to organize a friend LAN. When he polled for what games they wanted to play, the highest votes were for Counterstrike 1.6, Half-Life 2 deathmatch, and Diablo 2.
