Stardock Impulse Details

Minor derail, but is the PC Gamer podcast any good? And is the magazine's new editor-in-chief restoring the mag to former glories?

[R]eturn to the developers between buying the game off the shelf and buying it direct from them might not be fully tenfold, but it's up there.

From what one of the head honchos at Stardock said on a PC Gamer podcast last week, they make twice as much from an on-line sale as a retail copy. At 10x, you really would have to be a monster to not swallow the extra 10 bucks to help the developer. At double, I will buy on-line from here on, which I tend to do anyway, but I won't think less of people who don't see things the same way.

EDIT: The PCGamer Podcast is alright, they tend to stay on topic fairly well, but I've only been listening for a short time. I don't read magazines, so I can't attest to the mag's quality.

Didn't want to start a new thread since this one was already here, although a bit old. Impulse was released last week, so I was curious of opinions of it so far from the community.

I have been using Impulse ever since it was first announced. Before that, I have been a happy user of Stardock Central.

So far, my only complaint is that I can't seem to use my Totalgaming Network Points to buy games properly through Impulse. I really want to get the Penny Arcade game through Impulse.

Just installed, but so far very impressed!

My biggest beef is the lack of token support and the intrusive dock (until I learned how to shut it off). It detected everything I had previously purchased without a problem.

Haven't yet tried out the friends list, etc - in fact, we should have a thread to pass that information around.

I finally found out about Impulse and installed it. After rebuilding my new system, SDC would not download GC2 - the file size was not what was expected. Impulse had no problem with it. It also found my account info and loaded that up so it was really easy to get started.

Brad's got another nice tool in this.

Is Impulse the reason i can't use the Steam overlay in SOASE? CONSPIRACY!

So, I bought SOASE a long time ago. And I'm thinking about purchasing some other stuff through Impulse. Where can I find the DRM information for a title?

Not wanting to resurrect this but is anyone else extremely disappointed with Impulse?

To someone who has been using Steam for a while I find this to be absolutely garbage. It's sitting there hogging 10-15% of my CPU when open and not doing anything (minimising this stops the cpu hog). It's crashed 5 times already

Everything is slow even tho I have a fast internet connection and Steam works a treat.

Frankly, extremely annoyed and disappointed in this, no wonder I've been sticking to Steam...\

i'm fervently praying that it's not a steam where it has to be loaded to play a game from it. Tell me it isn't so??

No, I believe the client only needs to be running if it's being patched, although the games I bought off Impulse I didn't ever use multiplayer so don't quote me on that.

I don't hate the client myself, more kind of ambivalent towards it. While I still prefer Steam for various reasons, there's nothing essentially wrong with it. Granted, I don't see myself using it except for Stardock-specific titles, prefering Steam, GamersGate, and Direct2Drive over Impulse, so I don't think it'll ever become my "favourite" hub and therefore I will probably never become irritated with it.

I haven't been a huge fan in the couple of days I've been using it. I'm not a big fan of the interface, and the friends list leaves a lot to be desired compared to Steam - not enough people on one page, doesn't show me what game they're playing, etc. etc. On the other hand - blazing fast download speeds.
While I love me some Steam, I also think competition is important, but impulse has some catching up to do. Better Friends list integration would be key, and features that steam doesn't have would be amazing - if Impulse could so something where I can invite all my friends to play demigod, but only the ones who OWN demigod, it would be amazing.
