The Official Gears of War 2 Catch-all

Our culture does not speak of the dead.

Wait, what if he did die?

For the multiplayer, they should be required to implement a Halo-like party system and multiplayer lobby.

Otherwise what's the point.

Did I miss a fallout or something? Or has he just disappeared?

POW-MIA

I just checked and saw him on line with his 360, So I think he's still in the living world.

Yeah I still see him from time to time... Got an invite request from him a while ago, but I wasn't there when it came in, so if you see this, Sorry 1D!!!

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to this something fierce. I know I've missed a lot of fridays lately, but I can't wait to jump back in with some fresh levels!

I talked to 1Dgaf all the time. The guy is doing fine, like myself, spending more time with real life things.

What is this..."real life" you speak of?

You'll find out soon enough, oh young grasshopper. One ring to bind them all isn't just Tolkien.

It's full of women who have sex with you as long as you don't say something stupid!

Hey, new multiplayer preview on 1UP, reading now.

Some weapons now have "stopping power," which the developers put in specifically to stop the silly antics Gears 1 players have resorted to. "We had some issues with the way that Gears multiplayer...was played when it was released into the wild," says Fergusson. "Our favorite weapon, the Lancer, was getting underused, and it became more of a shotgun battle. One of the things we saw people doing a lot was just charging, evading, and then shotgunning up close. It became a constant shotgun/evasion battle." So in Gears 2, if someone's running right at you, a few rounds from an assault rifle or a pistol can slow him down to the point where he'll have to turn away and look for cover or die in his tracks, thus nullifying the old charge/evade/attack tactic. It won't take long for most folks to get used to the idea that dashing toward an armed target is no longer a good idea

Squee!

Hey.

Inigo sent me a message on XBL mentioning your questions about my absence.

I left because

1. I was supposed to write something for Certis and just... Couldn't make it what I wanted, so he didn't get it. I got embarassed and scuttled away, tail between my legs. (Is that mixing metaphors?).

2.

I've been getting a real life. I'm more sociable and outgoing. I dress better, get irregular exercise (climbing) and have been going to the theatre, musems, ballet and whatnot.

I love gaming and I spending time with you chaps, but I need to be more a rounded human being. The balance in my life was too far towards gaming and I'm, slowly, trying to tip it the other way.

Oh and I ordered Gears2 as soon as I could. I look forward to playing with you all again at some point.

OH HELL YES. It's so annoying to SEE a player running at you while you fire lancer bullets into their faces only for them to stop in front of you and blow you away. Hell, I've even waited for those people to run into my chainsaw but I'M the one that dies. On the other hand, the same player can take you out with two shotgun blasts from 10 feet away. So happy they fixed that crap.

Anyone else read the new variant on Capture the Flag? Basically, the "flag" is an armed human; down him and you can drag him back to your base. If the enemy kills you, he'll recover enough to shoot at them until they can down him to capture. It sounds like a lot of fun.

The preview has a companion video with, among other things - flame throwers, grenades stuck to walls in what appears to be a motion-detonation feature, a finishing move where you use the sniper rifle as a executioner's axe. You get to see the spectator camera, which is cooler than Halo's free cam. Cliffy also mentions a locust finishing move where they rip your arm off and beat you to death with it. I noticed that you can crawl around if you get taken down, maybe crawl to safety or some otherwise protected position. They address most of the exploits that we all know so well.

As someone who spends a lot of time downed, this sounds awesome. No more will I have to crack out the Admiral Ackbar impersonation when I'm sitting downed in the open as Inigo hovers out of sight nearby with the boomshot.

Good to see you're around, Id. I don't play as much games as I used to either (because I'm becoming less of a rounded person, ironically enough) but I'm looking forward to the fall.

Leaked Gears 2 footage.

Hopefully it hasn't been taken down by Epic's lawyers by the time you read this.

Good to see you around 1DGaf. I was starting to wonder what happened to you.

As someone who also spends A LOT of time downed, I'm more interested in the grenade suicide...if you have the frags armed, you can detonate them when the enemy comes in for the execution!

That's easy: eat more, exercise less!

You know, I don't blame you for either.

But I still want to shoot you.

Hey, a floating camera. That's neat.

Nice pics -- looks like they're really amped up the fine detail in 2. The colour palette tweaking (making the characters a bit more blue and the world more brown) should help make other players stand out more, too.

Multiplayer movie where Cliffy only uses the 3 B's twice. The shield is showcased just a bit in the middle. Just about all the changes sound neat to me except for the 5v5 and respawn gametypes.

Yea, respawn? When are we supposed to yell at each other?

In Geoff Keighley's show this week, Cliffy confirmed that there would be bots in multiplayer. Which makes sense given the tradition in UT. This'll hopefully be nice for those nights where we just can't seem to get an even number of people on.
