Car lovers?

Ok, I picked up my new car today.
As promised, here is a pic of my new toy.

IMAGE(http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg150/Judge_Digger/Tiburon.jpg)

I found it is WAY too easy to speed with this thing but it handles like a dream.
Sure there are better ones ones out there (many mentioned above) but for the price, this 2008 Tiburon GS Sport suits me just fine.
The colour is unique too. I don't see many up here around Hamilton (Ontario) in this colour.

Nice! I have always liked how those look.

That's a really nice-looking Hyundai. It kinda makes me think of a Chrysler (in an upscale kind of way).

Ironic considering any comparable Chrysler is likely more expensive. For the kind of car that it is, the Tiburon is almost sickeningly affordable. I am really surprised I don't see more of them on the road. Disappointed even.

I was surprised at the lack of Muscle love here.

I love a nice import tuner do not get me wrong. But my passion is old school muscle.

I drove a Hyundai XG300 for a couple years when I was out selling. I bought it after having a Chrysler Intrepid with all sorts of issues and my mileage pushed me to buy a product with a heavy warranty. Hyundai fit the bill and in the 87,000 miles I drove the thing, I had exactly one issue with it which was taken care of competently.

I notice you're in Canada. Hyundai was a bit of a rip off to Canadians iirc. My brothers and I bought my mom a small car one year (she's in Kingston, ONT) and we looked at Hyundai for the warranty. In the U.S. they had 100,000 mile warranty, in Canada it was a 100,000 km warranty. Weak sauce for Canadians.

Scary thing is that it is the best warranty of any brand up here.

We get screwed in gas prices too. Our prices here are posted per LITRE. Currently we have something around $1.28/litre. 1 gallon is approximately 3.785 litres so thats roughly $4.85 / gallon.

I love to LOOK at them but here in Ontario that seems like all you can do. Our government recently passed legislation giving the police the right to take the car of anyone caught going 50 km/h (30 mph) over the posted limit plus a fine and points.

It would be sad to have a muscle car and not let the horses run.

Damn that is a bit harsh.
Both my stangs are cop magnets. After the last 1000 traffic stop a few weeks ago, speed limit on the street is the way for me.

We do have a lot of tracks around that you can get you speed fix out on.

I'm pretty sure the laws were designed to dissuade a street racing issue or something like that. That said they could be applied to someone just tipping the power up a bit on the 401 as well, so yeah, best not.

Wired - What tracks do you frequent?

Muscle car love. It's our old plymouth that we drag in sometimes. I forgot the year. That's my grandfather in the pictures.

Very nice Edwin, those 426's really move.
Looks like a '64 but I could be off.

My best times have allways been at Byron.

I have run well at Route 66. But they went NHRA last year so the Tech and Saftey inspection is at a pro level and a huge pain in the ass.

Greatlakes in WI 1 time and will never go back. That track is ass.

US41 in IN is a dirt ball place but a lot of fun and at least the track is well maintained.

Love them but the old classics are just getting ridiculously expensive now.

Buy em as junk.

I am looking for my next project in corn fields, deserted land, and junkyards.

I just don't have that kind of time on my hands. Not to mention everyone I've talked to has spent a ton of money fixing 'em up anyway. I think it's the difference between spending it all at once or doing it piecemeal.

I don't know of any laws about how quickly you can get up to the speed limit- that's why I love interstate on-ramps!

You know, I've never been to a drag strip - looks like fun.

I got nailed for that once. I got written up as "Driving at unsafe speeds for Conditions"

It is a blast any of the tracks in your area will have a "test and tune" day, typically for 20 bux you can bring any car and run it all day.
Be careful and tell the techs this is your first time at the track and they will walk you through the procedures and policies etc.

Be careful one day at a test and tune and you will be hooked!

Shh! Do not let me wife in on that information and you will have blown my cover.

I bet. Probably even more fun if you actually like know crap about your car and work on it yourself. My 911 was never really setup for crazy speed, more for consistent track reliability. Well in theory it was, I had issues with it every outing. It's been a while, probably over a year especially since I have to hook up with my dad and share a car now, but I mainly drive here. It's awesome and a half * 27.

I am going to see if there's a drag strip near by though and grab some people and go tear it up with our family friendly vehicles.

Just don't be this guy.

I love me some late 60's Detroit muscle. Doesn't mean I can afford to own one.

Hey c'mon, you know I look good out there. Jealous.

A friend of mine sent me this a couple weeks ago.
http://audidrivingexperience.com/?ar...
It's for an Audi driving experience day at Summit Point, WV. I went ahead and signed up for the ninth. Looks like it's going to be a good time if anyone is going to be in the area.

I'm more of a bike guy usually, but there's something about an Audi A8 that I find inextricably sexy. Not that I'll ever be able to afford one mind.

I just could never get into the whole muscle car thing. Does the Ford GT40 count, because I really dig that car. I like cars with modern tech and styling (>1990s), and old cars are notoriously bad at handling, unless you tear out the old parts and put modern stuff in.

The thread's been a bit quiet over the last week, maybe this will pick it up:

BMW builds cloth-covered car.

Wired wrote:

It's built on the Z8 chassis and has a 4.4-liter V8 and six-speed automatic transmission. BMW says the fabric skin - polyurethane-coated Lycra - is resilient, durable and water resistant. It's stretched over an aluminum frame controlled by electric and hydraulic actuators that allow the owner to change the body shape. Want a big spoiler on the back? Wider fenders? No problem. "The drastic reinterpretation of familiar functionality and structure means that drivers have a completely new experience when they handle their car," BMW says.

You've changed that today, buddy.

That looks like a nice place to have a part-time job on the weekends or something. But how does one get so close to those cars for any amount of time and not go crazy with longing?

My brother just posted pictures from work on his Facebook if you can see this.

Not really old school muscle, but have a 01 WS6 Firebird 6spd. Plain old 5.7L engine.

Love it, just need a suspension upgrade for it.

I'm jealous. I've loved the last gen Firebird/Trans Am since it first came out. Just never could bring myself to buy one because the insurance would be murder.

Even w/ kids, I wont get rid of her. There is enough room in back for 2 small children, or we can caravan.

Steady now.

You just had to post a picture didn't you

Sure is pretty. My supervisor here at work has an '02 Camaro SS that he's put a fair amount of money into. Most recent additions are new headers, exhaust, and a major suspension overhaul. That thing hauls ass. He can't manage anything but a chirp in the tires because they just lock and off he goes.
