Age of Conan General Discussion

All of my heals are group buffs.. I have 2 HoTs that work on the entire party; 1 direct heal that centers around me with a fairly small radius, but it heals everyone within that radius; and my Lance of Mitra, which is an area attack spell that does splash healing. The channeling spell is the first defensive spell that's has a direct target for use.

My PoM is approaching 30 and Im really torn between the two talent trees. I went Vengeance and have enjoyed the increased damage of smite and the cone attack "cleansing fire"
I recently got "revivification" which procs my emanation of life HOT on me anytime I am struck in melee. And at 30, I get a feat that allows the emanation of life HOT's that I cast to do AOE damage to enemies in my immediate range. All that stuff is great and is working well for me, but that Light of Mitra sounds great for mana and stam regen. My mana is huge problem, as once my mana bar runs out, I'm pretty much neutered.

Have you grouped with or seen a Vengeance PoM? Just curious the damage output compares between Divinity and Vengeance as I solo a lot and would prefer burst damage over longevity at this point.

So I was just reading on the Funcom forums and I came across a report of a bug that I thought everyone here should know about.

If you respec your feats, you will lose all your crafting and gathering skills!!

While I know most people haven't started doing this, a couple people have, so be careful.

Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah, Spy told me about this today. I believe it struck him but he found a work-around.

I was talking about that the other day. It sounded like fun, but I haven't seen it in action. Consdiering how much I like the damage output of a (full) Divinity, I can imagine that the Vengeance PoM is even better!

It would be fun to experiment, that's for certain.

Quick venting post: I'm really enjoying Age of Conan...a lot. I only wish that they had disguised some of the WoW-cloniness a bit more in the design. The game definitely has a different vibe and in many ways seems stronger than WoW, but some things, such as the Feats system, appear to be so derivative it seems a bit half-assed. And as I started to collect quests for the instance in Tortage - the Underchambers or whatever it is, I couldn't help thinking, "Oh I've run this instance before with the same backstory - it was called the Stockades."

There are a few other things that grate on me. I think they could have used a few more months of refinement. For example, why do the weapon models on your character's back float 18 inches behind you if viewing from the side? This ain't the Wii.

I think the only reason these things bug me is becaus ethe game seems so well-crafted otherwise...

Agreed. This game could really have used a month or two more or polishes. But I'm excited about it, and I'm interested to see what path it takes in the next couple months. Will they make the changes necessary or will they not?

Please tell me this game is gonna have legs... dismembered bloody stumps of legs that fly through the air for many months to come.

I gave up on my CE preorder and ordered a retail edition via snailmail.

Lo and Behold I see my CE pre-order is going through. That's great right? I wanted the CE, except I have a standard version enroute too because I had no faith Crom would deliver on the EE.

Oh, the seasons of Hyboria are already fraught with feast or famine and I won't be logging in for another week.

Yes the Feast are just like the Talents, that were just like AA skills, that were just like Feats from DnD.

While I do not think anyone would argue that the game needs minor polish. I should punch you in the face for suggesting another delay. IN THE FACE!

This game has the legs and the core game play to last. The bugs that we have to deal with all get pushed to the back of your mind every time you get a sweet fatality.

Speaking of which I had the best one of my life last night.

2h axe. Slam the axe into neck of the victim. Twist handle to pop head off like a bottle top. But oh wait the head stuck to the blade! Pull away from corpse and kick the head off the axe 20 feet away.

The cheering in vent was deafening last night.

It was beautiful. No other way to describe it.

Well said (but you missed the WOW --> buncha other MMOs --> DnD connection). Most people acknowledge WOW didn't invent anything, it just put the pieces together in the right way to get 10 million people to show up. Besides being incredibly casual, there's nothing innovative about WOW (even their IP is stolen from GW years ago).

Personally, the only think unique to WOW, IMHO, is their art design, and I am one of the few that it doesn't really click with.

exactly! a thing of beauty!

Wired already mentioned it some, but a lot of what you find similar is just what you'll find in all MMO's. As for the story in the Underhalls i dont think the stockades had you fighting canibals and demons.

I agree about the polish though... there's a lot of loose ends that need cleaning up which we should be seeing over the next month or 2.

The thread is far too long for a late-comer like me to skim at this point, but I thought I'd jump in and say I've picked up the game after the slightest encouragement from Certis (doesn't take much to convince me to get a new shiny object). I only got to play for a few hours before my home internet connection died due to some wonderful melted wiring in the alley. The cable man is coming out this afternoon, though, so I should be back up and rolling this evening.

So far, I'm enjoying the game but I'll need some more time and convincing to pull me away from WoW for any extended period of time. The gameplay is great, and the mature material is a very refreshing break. Funcom should definitely be commended - it's no small feat to release a new MMO, especially of this quality.

Not sure who Markov is here on the forums, but he was asking about HoX feats and the ones found on the General Mage line. I crashed and when i got back in he was gone.

I would put points in spiritural armament but mainly so i could get mirrored iron and crimson shield. I'd also probably wait until my late 30's or early 40's to start picking them up.

As for gear keep an eye out on +str and +defense gear (i know rough when you need cloth). All we got to go on at the moment is the tooltips, and right now that's the way it seems to lean. As for it actually making a difference or not yet... not sure.

A little more on HoX feats. I am Amull btw on the PvP branch.

I found placing my first 5 points in the casting time reduction for Hellbreath to be the best. It takes our 2.5 aoe good damage spell that nobody but an npc will stand arround while you cast to a .3 second spell.

I then placed points in the feat after that made my Hellbreath add to my melee damage since I spam hellbreath when it is up.

Then I placed 2 in improving root (not sure this was worth it).

I then jumped trees and placing points in firey weapons and plan on going to improved firey weapons to add to my and the groups damage.

At that point I will be about 30 and I was also looking at the protection skills in the mage tree but it is so tempting for me to keep going down my tree to improve my transformation ability.

Oh the choices.

As it stands now I have no problems taking on 3 and even more at times even cons PvE wise.

Now that I think of it, one of the big differences in playing on PvP and PvE servers is that every time I take on 2 or more mobs on PvP, I find myself nervously looking over my shoulder and all around wondering if someone is about to jump me at a bad time or if using area spells is going to pull another player into the fray accidently.

I definitely play with a lot less abandon in FFA PvP zones where I am happy to get single target, quick kill quest mobs over edge-of-my-seat, 4 mob pulls... mostly because I am already on the edge of my seat

AoE is rough to deal with when mixed with FFA. I forgot when i respeced that one of my combos becomes AoE and I accidently killed another player when attacking a goon last night.

I don't know if I'd call it accidentaly.

Did you apologize, at least, as you kicked his head back towards the rebirth stone?

I handle this by killing both parties and then in say channel, "Sorry man tried to help."

That way everybody thinks you were helping them.

Does someone have info on the talent-respec causing loss of gathering skills work-around? Im going to have to respec my guardian tonight and dont want to lose those.

I think they say in the new patch notes when you log in that it's been resolved..

Sweet. My guardian is way too squishy. Gotta fix that tonight

polypusher wrote:

what are you respecing to make him not so squishy?

All my points were in Juggernaut which added lots of offense. Im taking 17 points out of that and into defensive General talents like Ironskin, Cunning Deflection, Surging Health, etc.

Yeah, it's a bad sign when the Ranger (me) is out-surviving the Guardian for no apparent reason

Certis wrote:

Well rangers do rock. Can pretty much drop an enemy before they reach you and you have traps. The best defense is not getting hit at all.

Rangers are flat out broken when you get around 30 and get shatter stance. I can almost tank same level elites. If they're 1 or 2 levels below i can take them. Things get dicey when there's multiple adds beyond 3, but they're still able to pull it off if cool downs are up. They're real handy for pulling adds off of healers.

I tried both ranger trees to see which root/snare skills would proc more often and the knockback from shatter stance out of the Waylayer tree is around 1 for every 3 shots. Some fights i have had it proc every shot. The root from the other tree i had it proc once in about 20 different fights. It may have been twice, but the mob was in my face already when i noticed the snare icon.

There's also a quest in the Khopesh(?) Province that gives a real sweet xBow. It's like 5dps more than the bow you get from Zerlata in the Wild Lands.

Patched!

No mention of a fix for the trader.
