The Witcher catch-all

And it is free, which is really nice considering the recent trend for micro-transactions. Nice to see a developer not blinded by dollar signs, I'm looking at you, Bethesda.

I've downloaded the new patch and the adventure editor. Does anyone know how to get the new adventure?

Unfortunately I can't seem to run the adventure editor due to the incessant DVD copy protection malware.

If I'm reading the patch notes right the new adventure is part of the 1.3 patch.

Patch Notes wrote:

The Module Edition Upgrade package updates the Witcher to version 1.3 and adds the functionality of running a user editable module. The sample module has been provided, offering a couple of hours of additional gameplay, which can be altered by the user using the Module Editor. The New Game main menu offers two options now: starting the regular game, or starting new adventure (new module).

And, of course...

Patch Notes wrote:

WARNING! The Witcher 1.3 Module Edition is only partially compatible with saved games from previous versions (1.0, 1.1a, 1.2). Loading older saved games is still possible but may lead to unexpected behavior and other problems. The players are advised to restart the game from the beginning using The Witcher 1.3 Module Edition.

Oh well, I'm only at the end of Chapter 1 anyway...

Ah hah: you are right; Once you load into the editor, go to Module->Open Module and it's the first one there. Takes quite a bit of time to load it all.

Well, the new patch hasn't fixed my random crash on area load error. I'm still having to remember to save just about every time I go to enter a new area. Of course, sometimes it happens on a save too. Like last night, just after I killed the beast.

It hasn't crashed since starting chapter 2 but I'm just in the sewers so we'll see.

How is it with the patch?

Gah! I want to play this game so badly! I have the UK (uncensored) version and finished Chapter 1 before finding out about the huge revamp due in May. I made the decision to hold off so I can enjoy the game as it was meant to be, but it's hard to hold off, since I loved what I saw in the first part of the game.

What big revamp? Is that different than the patch that just came out? Am I a filthy skimmer? Maybe so.

Well, the most major change is the fact that CD Projekt is rewriting the entire English translation, since Atari did a poor job of it by cutting quite a bit of material out. They are rerecording all the voice acting of the game so it is line with the new English translation.

There are also a load of minor changes, improving the inventory with several new features, improved loading times, improved stability, improved dice poker AI, improved in-game weather, better texture caching, character appearance differentiation options, improved facial gestures, and more than 100 new gesture animations among other things.

Has there been news on whether the May release will be released uncensored in the States?

The translation is the big thing for me. I'm also waiting on playing the game for the overhaul, since I was only a chapter in when I heard about it. I just got tired of hearing conversations like this, especially when I heard there was a patch coming. The reported load time reduction and other features are also welcome, but if they just released the enhanced script today I'd start playing again.

As far as the censorship, I don't think there are any plans to change it. I did some googling and as far as I can tell the only thing they changed was some boobies on the cards you get when you sleep with women. For your conquest or something. Didn't matter much to me since I refuse to let my virtual avatar get laid more than I do, which makes him essentially chaste. I did find some ~600mb patches on some torrent sites that claim to uncensor the game, but I haven't tried them so proceed with caution.

My understanding is that the updated game will continue to have a censored and uncensored versions; the differences between the two only involved images and some of the 3D models. The censoring had nothing to do with changes coming to the dialogues.

I played the game part of the way through with the shipped English dialog, and the rest of the way through using a patch that made more of the earlier English text displayed, even though it couldn't do anything to the recorded voice acted lines. There were places where that clarified the intent of some character comments. For example, there's the pub keeper you get to in town (chapter two) says something in the voice acting that sounds like he's unhappy to have you show up, but actually he's complaining about his bag luck at gambling.

I chose to purchase the UK uncensored version mostly as my way to vote with my dollars against silly self-censorship, but the difference between the two game versions is pretty minor. You get some oogaba (hand painted) cards instead of the same with strategic black rectangles and one or two 3D models that have extra long clinging hair tresses and added loin-clothes.

Along with the add-on short modules, I'm really looking forward to the updated content for me to play through again this spring/summer. It's free to any registered Witcher owner! I think this time I'll do my best to end up being as neutral as possible.

I personally love the way they are patching this game. After having fun playing through the first chapter, I got sucked back into the abyss that is WoW, TF2 and college. This is on my summer pile and the patches have my anticipation at a peak.

Don't mention the "C" word please.

The patch is supposed to come out almost exactly on the last day of the semester

Same here.
I plan to use the month between spring and summer semesters to finish the Witcher.

Gah! They've delayed it. Oh well, I'd rather wait for a great release than get a poorer release earlier.

I finally decided today to bite the bullet and get the game and found out that 1.3 patch was released today as well. So if you've been waiting for it, get it.

That's actually a Feb. 22 patch

And I've been meaning to post this but haven't gotten around to it: The Last Wish, a collection of short stories about Geralt was released in NA about two weeks ago. I picked it up and it seems decent, though it's just barely scratching the itch while I wait for the enhanced edition.

When is the enhanced edition patch coming? Anyone?
I am about to just play the darn thing instead of waiting.

I can't find any release date for it, was supposed to be 4 days ago and now the best I've found is "delayed."

Also, please don't post in this thread anymore unless it's been released. Every time it pops up on page 1 I get all excited again. kthxbye

It was pushed back to August/September. Apparently they're really serious about getting it right this time.

It's not out yet? Crap.

[Logs back into LOTRO]

Or, the thing is, they're simultaneously developing console ports. But I find it rather unlikely, as they haven't made any announcements yet.

They've already confirmed in several interviews that a console port is coming.

Really? Sorry, it seems that it got bit off my radar

From the "just when I stopped caring" department:

The enhanced edition got a release date: September. I'll try not to be snarky about the likelihood of this given that after the initial delay, they promised a new date within a few days and it's been two months.

Hey man, perfection takes an indeterminate amount of time (evidently)

Sorry, couldn't help going to the snarky place.

Well, I'm waiting for the damn patch. I'm sorry, I won't let you toy with my heart any more witcher.

Early September...isn't that when Spore is being released? Time to book vacation my vacation
