She's back up! 21.6MB patch..

Well up in that you can patch. Downtime now till 1am EST.

Ridiculous...What takes 8 hours? Why are they doing it during US primetime? Why didn't they keep the servers up until midnight tonight and take them down from midnight to 8am?

They just pushed it back another hour. 11PM PST / 2AM EST

I'm giving up for the night.

and from what I've seen -- likely another hour after that.

Haha.. yeah too late for my old bones. Gotta work in the morning, lets hope it stays up for a few hours tomorrow so I can get a couple quests in later

Patch notes make it sound like they're trying to combat spawn camping, see the last entry:

Well its up now Us West Coast folk get an hour or so in

Edit: Ok, a non-status related question: Is there any kind of quick travel in the game besides sailing between the region's major cities?

Trainer (to unlearn Feats for reassignment) in Tarantia is at Coordinates 802, 540. Near the Temple of Mitra and West Gate.

Combat

* PvP: Attacking someone who is under the effect of 'Shield of the Risen' will now lead to severe damage to the attacker.

I like that one, damage those who wish to spawn camp.

I see this on the official forums regarding codes Maxox ---

You need to register your retail code and MAKE SURE TO UPDATE YOUR SUBSCRIBTION when you do it or it will not work.
After you put in the code and hit enter it brought you to another page showing what you have attempted to do.

You need to then also click on the lil "apply changes" or whatever its called on that page.

Then you should be able to go back and see all your in game items when you view your subscription.

If it is not there, you have not completed that last step mentioned above.

Once you see the items listed, log out of AOC (if you were alt tabbed) and log back in and your all good

I followed those instructions but didn't see any change on my account page. When I got back in the game I was able to /claim so I guess everything is okay.

One of the reasons we are taking a little more time are the issues players reported about having client crashes after installing the latest patch. We need to make sure this is fixed before letting more users patch.

The time announced in-game (to those users who are playing the game) is actually 3 hours after the planned launch time (so 10am GMT). This is the correct new scheduled launch time so I will adjust the information accordingly in the forum announcements now.

We really want to thank you for your support and patience. I know it is not easy when announced times are getting changed again and again. But I hope you understand that we just have to do it to ensure a smooth gaming experience with as less technical trouble as possible.

Thank you

Anyone else been playing a Necromancer ?
I played one to lvl 14 and I'm thinking of just going melee with Assassin or Herald of Xotli since I find the necro to lack the combo fun of the hand to hand combat.

I had trouble in the open beta with a necro but only played him a bit at lower levels then at level 20 so I am not an expert.

At first he really rocked.

Then when I got bumped to 20 it stunk. First I had trouble dealing with multiples with the way they did damage with DoTs and the root I had was not ranged.

I found the Demo to be a lot more powerful and more in line with my play style.

I am sure I just stunk at playing one but I had a real hard time with him compared to the Demonologist.

Yeah that's the main problem so far, multiple mobs tear me down since my pets rarely hold agro and i have like 2 hps.
Spellweaving will probably be awesome but I just do not know if i'll have the patience to get there

'Tailored Task' now should require less camping on White Sands Isle

While I'm glad people won't have to collect 40 crocodile skins, it sure is fun fighting others to get them!

Yeah.. I noticed that first thing last night. I killed a croc and got 3 skins off of it, and the requirements are now just 30 skins.

A buddy of mine is playing a necro (currently lvl 21) and he REALLY likes it.

There are a couple of self-centered AOEs. Whenever he kills someone he has a chance of stealing their soul and they follow him around attacking what he fights. Every fatality gets him a giant ice monster pet for a certain amount of time.

I was grouping with him and it was nuts how much AOE damage he was doing (granted he died a lot too, but it was a lot of fun).

I've actually made a few friends using my AoE Knockback, because I will take the time to apologize even in battle. People walk into it a lot when I am taking on 3 or more mobs, so much so that I am starting to get a little fearful to use it in busy areas.

Do sweeping melee attacks have the same deal?

Yea, If your a guardian with a polearm, think twice before going and helping a random out. Of course if your intention is to do harm, then hey, Help away.

So do we have an official word as to the "complete" differences between the server types at release? GWJ currently has 6+ AoC threads going, I'm at work so I cannot log into the AoC forums or peruse (skim filthily) all our AoC threads. All Funcom has are the beta server types on their main page.

Thanks!

So it seems like I should wait a month for the bugs of this game to get knocked out. It looks like there is a lot of logging in an authentications problems.

Yeah, if you're in no hurry and are only a little interested I'd definitely wait it out. On the flip side, other than the downtime to patch the servers and other fun launch day stuff, when it is up and running it's smooth as can be and lag free.

But if you are pretty amped about playing it (I'm totally amped if you can't tell) then these things are just a minor bump in the road of a pretty wicked highway

They've been patching pretty frequently so I'm sure after a month a whole bunch of stuff will be addressed. Some complain about patches - I say, bring em on.

Almost same as before with an addition they threw in at the last moment. faction based pvp which has each race fighting each other.

The rest is PvP, PvE, and RP-PvP. We have 3 Official Age of Conan posts for the PvP PvE and RpPvP

Thanks for the semi-info Ran. I'm actually trying to find what the ruleset is for each of those server types... full blown explanations. None of the 3 "Official" threads really explain what they are, and none of the 10+ threads on the first page of the MMORPG forum really explain what they are.

When I get home I'll start looking. If I find them, I'll post them in this general:

PvP - (includes RP-PvP)Free For All PvP. I'm not sure how PvP is handled in the cities, but from my experience, in Tortage (and the surrounding area) PvP is not allowed, but in the quest instances (White Sands Isle, Acheron Ruins, Underhall) PvP is enabled. I would imagine in all non-city zones there will be ffa pvp.

Culture-PvP: I am not sure. PvP only between people of different races? Seems strange to me.

PvE - Almost all zones are PvE only. There are still PvP minigames and the end-game zones with the Battlekeeps are intact. I do not know the specifics of how many zones contain battlekeeps, but I got the impression that there are more than 1 PvP zones on PvE servers.

Unlike WoW, there does not seem to be a "PvP flag" on PvE zones allowing you to be attacked if you choose to turn on your flag. I think it would be a cool addition.

Alright you dirty dirty enablers, I bought it today.
I will probably roll on the PvP and PvE servers, and play for the first 30 days. Then I have to make a decision on whether I will stick around, or continue with WoW for a while. My wife and I just started WoW a few months ago, so the shiny is still pretty fresh, and she hasn't shown much interest in AoC yet.

Looking forward to seeing you all in there!

P.S. The install and patch time is killing me

The Culture pvp server just sounds bizarre. Apparently if you're grouped with other races someone from your race can attack your party members and you can't do a damn thing about it, because you can't attack your own race. I don't see that being a popular long-term server type.

So tonight, before having a rousing jaunt through an Epic “The Maze” (with Ran, Spy, and Wired), I searched high and low through Old Tarantia in an effort to find the gathering skill trainers (stonecutting, woodworking, etc.). No luck at all. I did some googling and found some references to them being outside of the main cities. So, if someone has come across those (or if they are, in fact, in some of the cities), please let me (us) know! I’d like to give that a bit of a try. If no one has discovered them yet, feel free to give me a tug and I’ll go exploring some of these areas in search of the trainers.

From AoC.Wikia:
“To take up a gathering professions you will need to be level 20, and you will need to travel to either Poitain, Laceish Plains or Purple Lotus Swamp.”

I wonder if that's true...

PS: They need to make Epic areas a little more interesting and loot worthy, by the way. It was fun, gave us a feel for group mechanics and elite battles, but the drops didn't appear to be any different than normal (sadly).

Its true. I went to Lacheish Plains which involved a short pass through a 40-50 zone. It was a pretty dull zone but it had all of the gathering profession trainers and some nodes to work on the first quests. Resource gathering is what those zones are for, so I doubt trainers will be anywhere else.

Thanks, Poly.. Yeah.. I found a good post on the subject:

Aquilonians - Poitain
To get there, you need to go to the Wild Lands of Zelata (from Old Tarantia). In the Northwestern corner of Zelata, there is a stagecoach that will take you to Poitain.

Stygians - Purple Lotus Swamp
To get there you go to the k something province then take the road south and follow the road signs it will take you to a npc who you talk to who teleports you to the purple lotus swamp. Once there, go to the town and talk to the trainers. Caution some of them are glitched and are underneath the building; to talk to them just jump off the building (they are on stilts) and they should be standing underneath.

Cimmerian - Lachish Plains
Lachish Plains, is off of the Field of the Dead zone. You have to go ALL the way to the end of Conall's Valley, enter the Field of the Dead, and hang a right by the small camp that is there. It's the hardest resource zone to reach by far. It's a long walk with lot's of level 28+ mobs right in the path with a few elites thrown in.

You don't actually have to go through the Field of the Dead, you just zone in there and make a right immediately and the entrance to Lachish Plains is right there.

[Edit]: Also, I did read there there is a chance at some rare drops in epic dungeons, but it seems that the rate is very low so here's hoping they tweak them out a little more to make running in them with a group a little more worthwhile.

Don't go to the Lachish Plains for gods sake -- they were having huge problems (and I encountered them) earlier today. The client said I "Ran out of memory" then it started acting nuts. They posted a warning to others about entering the plains later in the day.
