Dr.Ghastly

Dr.Ghastly is a gentleman and a scholar. Don't let his rough and tumble ways or strange choice of life partners lead you to believe otherwise! I mean, we all go through that period in our lives when you want to experiment right? Who can honestly say they haven't gone out drinking only to wake up next to a Wookie in the morning? That soft fur... the smell of the forest... *sigh*

Read on for Ghastly's profile and let us never speak of the Wookie incident again.
Who the devil are you?

Gerald Winkler. I'm a very bad person, but your strict rules on posting guidelines hide this fact.

What are you supposed to be doing during the day when youÂ're reading GWJ?

I work at a healthcare company in Phoenix, AZ (name not mentioned for safety reasons...and I wish I was joking) as a programmer. I spend most of my days buried in .Net or PHP code. Of course, you'll notice that I post a LOT from work, if you have a way of tracking that information.

When youÂ're not working or gaming, what do you do with your time?

I do various side jobs for e-commerce sites (so far) with PHP (Yeah, I like to mention PHP a lot. Yay Open Source!) I also read a lot, watch films and movies, and torture my g/f's cats.

Oh, I also create my own ammunition for my various handguns and rifles. I own a Dillon Precision 550B reloader with die...yeah you don't want to hear that I'm sure..

How about family? Do you have any kids?

No, no STD's so far.

What was your favorite game over the last year or so? Why?

That's a tough one. Let me go look at the games I have bought over the last year real quick..

There are really two games that tie in my mind for my favorite of the year: KOTOR and Ninja Gaiden.

KOTOR: GREAT story, nice plot twist, and believable (Star Wars) characters. This game had it all, light sabers, the force, choking people (that never got old), and HK-47!

Ninja Gaiden: Back in my younger days, Ninja Gaiden 1, 2, and 3 were the pinnacle of action games on the NES (with the notable exception of Mega Man 2 and 3, but MM wasn't a freaking Ninja.) When it was announced that Ninja Gaiden was being made for the PS(?) I went nuts in anticipation. 8 years and a console switch later Ninja Gaiden, to me, represents the current cream of the crop for action games. The storyline was ok, and the endowed women were a joke, but the Ninja goodness was there in the combat and style.

Which game are you looking forward to most?

Out of the big 3 (MGS3, Halo 2, KOTOR 2) I would have to say Halo 2 for its great co-op playability. The MP aspects of Halo 2 look great and I look forward to using a lot of my time on this rock to playing it.

What is your fondest gaming memory?

There are really two. When I defeated The Jaquio with out getting hit once (I had one bar of health left.) If any of you remember The Jaquio, this was an amazing accomplishment.

The other moment was the opening CGI of Final Fantasy VII with the 3-D walking Aeris and the panoramic pullout shot of Midigar. That was the moment I *really* knew the 3-D revolution in gaming was upon us and I was trembling in anticipation.

Finally, why do you play games at all? Why havenÂ't you outgrown them?

I can be old and grown-up when I die. Life is for being young and playing all you can!

Thanks for taking the time to answer our hard hitting questions! Any last words?

Does this mean I get to be a moderator?

I keed, I keed.

No, really..?

Oy, seems a lot this crew is heavily armed. Nice to know you Dr.G!

I am enjoying the regularity of the employee profiles as well as their content.

So, are you a real Dr or not?

What does that picture tell you?

Well, Dr. Ghastly isn't nearly as ghastly as I expected.

I bent my wookie!

I take it you missed the section where i talk about my ammo reloader and the many MANY guns I own..

Trust me, folks, anybody who wears a black leather biker jacket in Phoenix should be feared. It's usually 5-10 degrees hotter there than down here in Tucson, where people with dry skin routinely burst into flames.

Enjoying the debate insanity up there Ghastly? I hope you don't have to commute far... hehe

I'm already home, I didn't have to deal with any of that traffic. Just as well, I annoy easily.

An excellent quality in a gun owner. And I'd imagine that Vader helmet gets pretty hot in the sun, further halping the disposition.

Hey, I want to hear about your arsenal.

Thanks for sharing!

It's odd, but I really enjoy reading these. It's cool to put faces to the people participating in some of the ridiculous antics around here.
