The Dark Knight/Batman: Gotham Knight Catch-All

Pages

Since we didn't have a consolidated thread on this movie before, I thought I'd create one since the new trailer is on the way. Speaking of which, someone did a side-by-side comparison of the previous trailer with the trailer for the Tim Burton Batman film. Damned if they aren't edited almost exactly alike.

I don't usually see a lot of movies opening night, but this will probably be an exception. Between this and the upcoming animated Dark Night direct-to-DVD movie, it'll be a good summer to be a Batman fan.

Saw the trailer before the Iron Man movie.

Everything about Dark Knight has looked good so far. I'm kind of surprised they kept the Rachel Dawes character since they booted Katie Holmes. Even so, it looked fantastic.

Really wish Heath Ledger hadn't died. What a downer. I love his take on the Joker so far. He's going to give Nicholson a run for his money.

Wow, that is a shot-for-shot copy, clearly an intentional homage to the first Batman movie. I loved the 2 Tim Burton Batman films. They seem to get better with age, unlike the Superman movies.

I agree. It takes a recent "event" movie like LotR, SW:Ep.3, or the Pirates films to get me into the theater anymore but Dark Knight will be one of them. My most anticipated film since Return of the King.

I wasn't going to say anything in the Iron Man thread, but the original Batman still reigns in my book.

I think that the original Superman also holds up, even if the sequels don't.

Quiet you! Supaman 3 rox!

Oh, and i do love the first two Batman movies. I wonder who allowed both George Clooney and Val Kilmer to don that suit after Michael Keaton? I mean, okay, at least Val's film had Seal's music but George? There's no excuse for the guy who authorised that... i hope that they're not still working in Hollywood.

I'd rather they'd cast Maggie Gyllenhaal the first time around. Katie Holmes was a friggin stain on that first film.

And I've loved Aaron Eckhart ever since Thank You For Smoking. And it looks like they're going to bother to develop the character of Harvey Dent this time around. That will definitely add some poignancy.

Fixed for truth.

The supposed "1989" trailer is not the real trailer. Someone just took the time to edit together scenes from the first Batman that closely resemebled the The Dark Knight trailer. The real trailer can be seen here and is nothing like The Dark Knight trailer.

Two Face? (possible spoilers)

Whoa. If real, that is awesome and super-creepy. I love it.

Looks really convincing.

Between some of the scenes with the Joker and the possibility that's a real picture, I am starting to wonder if I'm going to have to screen this before the kids can see it.

I seem to remember hints in the older teasers about Two-Face showing up.

If I had to hazard a guess, I would say he shows up. In the newest trailer they show the gasoline on the floor creeping toward Dent's face.

Holy crap! And I thought The Joker was a gruesome looking character. I seriously hope that's real, and not just some fanboy using Photoshop.

You can see Two face, if you watch the trailer you can see Harvey Dents burnt up face on the edge of his profile. But I do wish they would use Harvey in one movie and then turn him into two face for the next.

That's right, I see it now. It's the shot where Dent is sitting in the back of a car and holding a revolver.

Today sees the release of the animated "bridge" shorts from Batman: Gotham Knight on DVD and Blu-Ray, so, arise thread! Oh, and TDK opens next Friday.

Just watched BGK; on the whole it was good, almost reaching the heights set by BTAS and the last live-action movie. Sometimes the switch between animation styles from segment to segment was a little jarring, but having the same voices throughout kind of anchored things. Although they're supposed to be interconnected stories, the threads that tied them together were occasionally very thing; one didn't need to see one segment beforehand to get a later one. All and all, not bad, but early reviews suggest we're in for something wonderful coming next Friday. I'll try out the extras tonight.

I'm already planning on taking the night off from studying to see this movie.

I don't think I've ever been more excited about any movie- ever.

Early word is that Ledger was looking at a potential Oscar nom for his role and may still end up with one posthumously.

Does it open Friday or are they doing the typical thing where they do showings at midnight on Thursday night and then have showings all day long on Friday?

I'm thinking Friday at about noon while most people are at work might turn out alright.

There are, but you can't get in, for they're already sold out.

Did you read the rest? I don't do midnight showings. They're always about half full of assholes that talk through the movie. I just wanted to know if my cherished noontime showings were going to be there for me on Friday.

But of course.

I'm excited this is going to be an IMAX showing for us.

Yeah, my wife said she wants to see this on IMAX. I am not opposed.

Yep, IMAX here as well. That was decided a couple months ago.

IMAX here as well, if we can make it that is... I am definitely not looking forward to the crowd...

Gotham Knights: not worth buying. Stick to the rental. Interesting, just not rewatchable that much.

Wasn't that good. I'm glad I didn't go for the special edition.

I was expecting better, so I bought it. Not sure why now. If you don't see it I don't think you're missing that much.

I worry when they headline things like "The first PG-13 Batman animated movie!!!" Great, so you push the envelope, put in a bunch of blood, and make it less appropriate for my kids. Way to cut out part of your target audience.
