GWJ Conference Call Episode 38

The Darkness, Overlord, A New Contest!, An Interview With The Makers Of Dwarf Fortress, Emails and more!

The holidays are here and we're taking a little bit of a breather before coming back at you for the road to E3 next week. But fear not! We have an interview with Zach and Tarn Adams from Bay 12 Games, the makers of Dwarf Fortress which was recently covered in Games For Windows Magazine! I also talk about The Darkness, Overlord and a couple follow-up emails on the AO rated Manhunt 2 controversy. That's right, I'm flying solo this week. God help us all.

The Darkness... the game was worth it just for the unlock-able #34. When you dial it in... it pretty much plays one of the best auto-attendant for 'Emergency Response Center' ever! ...EVER!!!

"That's right, I'm flying solo this week."

God help us all.....

Good show. What's with all the important people interviews recently?

Man, now I feel compelled to fire up Dwarf Fortress again, thanks very much Mister Pusher-man.

Oh, and great to know we have Gametap down under, definately going to be checking that out.

I like the idea of Zach and Tarn bridging the gap between reality and a parallel universe where the gaming industry followed the more complex road they envisioned it would. I suppose all innovative creation is something like that, bending reality to be something a little closer to a vision. In the meantime it just looks to everyone else as if you're possessed by unknown forces.

No one's said it so...
How lazy must you be to post it twice and/or not delete the original placement of the line?

I'll listen to the show in a bit - thanks for making the effort. You could have easily said, "No show."

That's better.

Sounds great! I'll give it a listen!

It was weird having a one man show. I don't think it works very well but if anyone guy could do it, it would be Certis. Call someone to fill in if that was the problem. I'm sure you could get lots of people to help out. Maybe ask Souldaddy or that cool guy Braehole to fill in....

It wasn't that we couldn't get a few of us together, it was about having a small break especially during the Canada Day long weekend and the 4th of July. Certis was able to record his section of the show fairly quickly on his own time, and the same for Rabbit. Once it was all done I was able to throw it all together relatively quickly. Good thing too, my brand new computer died last week and has yet to be fixed (stupid motherboard) my old computer is now being shared by the family. Pain in the ass!

Naughty Mod, that link needs a NSFW tag for language...

Great show, as usual. Loving all the interviews you guys put in. I did miss the bloopers.

guest speaker?! but... i'm HORRIBLY interesting, AND i write for notaddicted! but! i live in japan. it'll never work. <3 <3

Something about Certis sitting podcasting alone in his room just feels dirty to me.

MOM! Don't come in here! I'm PODCASTING!

Tarn and Zach Adams, creators of the astonishing Dwarf Fortress, are interviewed on the Gamers With Jobs Conference Call (hosted this week by Shawn Andrich, who is the Canadian flavor of badass).

I think he must have meant to include a space between bad and ass there.

At first I was a little wierded out by the solo podcaster podcast. I didn't think he'd be able to pull it off. I was expecting a lot of 'uh' and 'um' and '....' I have to say, though, that he rambled on at length, with no outside assitance, for a good long while. Impressive.

He's had years of training going blah blah blah. The four co-hosts will tell you all about it.

Ha, Ha! Beat me to it!

Whoa, wait a second... Terry Pratchett's daughter is a writer for Overlord?! Must have... MUST HAVE.

If her writing is at all like her father's that is. Now, what did I do with that demo I downloaded...

Shawn Andrich, who is the Canadian flavor of swamp-ass.

Went solo, eh? Will it be like Peter Gabriel without Genesis, or Johnny Gill without New Edition?

Simon without Garfunkel.

More diminuative, and somehow even softer than before?

You know I'm kidding, Shawn. We'll always love you!

Now get back to whoring yourself to our base desires and whims.

I'm going to drive you down to Graceland and rip a window to your heart. You'll likely see the ghost of Elvis before you die.

All I know is I only have eyes for you.

I bet the blue goblins could take down Elvis' ghost. Might need 20 - 25 in your horde though.

While I appreciate the show, it was like chili without jalapenos: tasty, but not as satisfying.

I will be happy to get on Skype and berate your game prowess...besides, how hard is it to make a PS3 joke?

Tasty, but not as hot? Satisfaction, as always, is a function of dairy + meat.

Texas style chili, WS: Satisfaction is a function of dairy+meat+heat!

Wait a second... i like jalapenos for their taste. Can't have a spicy pizza without them.

I'm hungry.
