Rainbow Six:Vegas 2 - catch all

Pages

It's almost time boys and girls!

Oh if i missed a previous catch-all post please lock...

I'm pretty sure there hasn't been a catch-all for 2 yet.

Also: I'm in. Definitely, completely in. I nominate Wednesday for the night, as I can't imagine much overlap with the TF2 folk on this one.

I loved Vegas but stopped playing because of all the bugs in the netplay that I was experiencing. If they ironed it out, I am in 110%. Vegas at it's core was an amazing game.

No 4 player co-op! Bad Developer! Evil, evil Ubisoft! Dirty, naughty Ubisoft!

I find it amusing that one of the items you get at the end is the shield, and they hype it up like this is a good thing.

Bugs as in the glitch spots?

Bugs as in models not loading, sounds not loading, and lag. It might have been the disk but it only ever seemed to happen a lot online, and after their updates I got as many bugs as it fixed. It was just too much so I moved on.

I enjoyed the first one immensely but the lack of 4 player coop is quite possibly a deal breaker for me.

Will there be other online co-op options? 2 players at least?

I'll be getting this for the PS3, hope I'm not the only one.

EDIT: RichyRambo's link answered my question.

Coop isn't a big deal for me. I mainly play the multiplayer to get as much xp as possible, and play the single player along the way. I just hope they tone down how long it takes to level up. They're allowing specialization, and that may help break it up some but the first one took FOREVER to level.

I just put down an order with Amazon. I've recently found out that their Prime two-day shipping is actually next day delivery for me . Now I get to save $10 on gas and taxes for every game I buy.

There is still 4-player terrorist hunts from what i've read. Frankly i'd rather have two person campaign co-op with cutscenes then the hacked up job they did with the first one. Also i'll be buying the PS3 version on day one.

As much as I love any game related to the military, special-ops, counterterrorism, etc., I'm done with the R6 series for good. I've been a HUGE fan since the early PC days but the game has gone further down the sh*thole year after year. I'll hold back my long winded my rant on that for now. I will say that I did give R6: Vegas a fair chance even after the numerous version Ubi f'd up before that and it failed in my opinion. Glitchy/buggy MP, ridiculously {ableist slur} leveling system, extremely linear SP, limited co-op, etc. Yeah they did a few things right in terms of the cover system and game modes but that was about it for me. Fairwell R6, it was a long, sometimes fun, but increasingly painful ride.

Wow, such a variety of opinions here.

I really enjoyed the Rainbow series, and I approached R6 Vegas with a bit of trepidation: I just didn't see how it would translate to a console.

As I have been playing it, I have been pleasantly surprised. I am really enjoying it, despite the bugs.

For example, in SP, my idiot compatriots will go into a firefight facing the opposite direction of the targets they just spotted. So much for being elite. They also can't hit the broadside of the barn when confronted with more than one target. Somehow, I am muddling through, and saving the hostages.

Does the plot make sense? Hell no. Mexican Guerrillas make their way to Las Vegas to strike a blow against Capitalism? First of all, how the heck did they get there? I have military transportation-I don't care about waiting for a lane to open, I just go. I get out of Mexico, and they already are raising hell in LV, and have taken half the strip. What do they have, a Tardis?

Whatever. It's really just an excuse to shoot things with realistic weapons, while pretending you are playing SWAT4 on a console.

Does any of that matter? No. For some reason, R6 and Ghost Recon have the right sort of gaming balance for me...periods of suspenseful boredom, punctuated by ohs**tohs**tohs**t.

I like that sort of game, and R6LV2 will provide more of the same. And that's perfectly fine with me.

I'll buy it, mostly because I can't help myself and I love listening to Legion complain.

SOCOM is coming, no Ubisoft shooter misstep can faze me now.

But I will be getting this game, as my wife loved the last one, and we had fun online once we discovered Retrieval (an objective mode that was actually balanced!)

And I will totally own you. I played so much R6:V long after everyone else had ditched the game, because the wife was hooked.

Funny out of all my games my girlfriend likes R6:V the most. She says it's the purple pimp hat i wear, but she giggles when i run through shooting people. Which would be cute except she giggles when i get shot too.

Which version will have the most people? PS3 or 360?

My PS3 library is hurting, and it may be time to give it some lovin'.

I loved the PC R6 games that started the series. I really enjoyed the super-tactical gameplay and mission planning, and I put a lot of time into trying to perfectly execute my maneuvers. I've heard complaints about the direction the series has taken, and I agree that while some of the R6 games (Lockdown) have been pretty sickly, I had a lot of fun with Vegas, even if it wasn't 'true' Rainbow Six.

I think this will be a case of mostly more of the same not really being a bad thing.

Same here i jumped to R6 from the very start. I've loved each one, but the last 2 were lackluster to say the least. I bought them but instantly regretted it. They then tried to jump to the console and it was abysmal. When R6:V was released it was the closest they've come to recreating the feel of the old R6 games. I loved it and when i tried it on the 360 i was even more impressed. Add the leveling system and i was hooked.

How exactly does/did the leveling system work? I've only started playing a 360 since I deployed, so I haven't had a chance to explore the Live system in any way.

I liked Vegas more than any other shooter on my PS3 last year. Unlike most other online games the online play for Vegas would work for all of my friends' weird home network configurations and ISPs. Well almost all of them anyway.

I'll probably rent Vegas 2 right away and if it has enough that's better than Vegas (better graphics, no more looping dropped gun sounds) then I'll pick it up.

You score points in an online match based on the game type and your rank goes up as your score reaches a certain point. Ranks unlock new weapons, weapon options, and clothing options, letting you change your look as you rank up.

You get an icon by your name denoting your rank. That icon can tell others just how screwed they are if they get into a game with you on the other team.

So, I'm going to pass on this one. Besides being on a buying hiatus this year, the Clancy games have been pretty unimpressive so far on next gen consoles. GRAW was bad (it seemed good at first, but then reality sank in), Splinter Cell was more of the same and R6 just didn't click with me. I loved the PC versions, but Vegas was the first console one I played. After that, R6:V2 will not be on the "list" for 2008 gift options.

I still need to finish R6:V (that should mean something). The multiplayer, while entertaining, was uninspired. I didn't care for the fact that they knocked down the textures to get smoother play. It looked like crap compared to some of the other games available at the same time.

Only in specialized games like pistol or shotgun only matches. Beyond that it didn't really matter. The M21 and FAMAS are still king which are picked up VERY early if not there at the start.

My favorite part of Vegas 1 were the huge firefights. You'd enter this enormous space, hotel lobbies or restaurants or whatever, and you knew that 30 tangos were gonna come pouring out of every orifice. That was fun with 4 player co-op.

Wow I don't think we could have more differing opinions.

To each their own...

I think the relative dearth of titles at the time GRAW came out made it a lot more appealing than it actually deserved. Yes, it had a couple of cool moments, but after a mission or two it became extremely repetitive.

GameTrailers has a preview out. Link

It did make the game less visually appealing, but I am extremely glad they did that rather than the opposite. Framerate is king, especially in online gaming. I want to b-slap developers that don't understand that, and put out a game that chugs in firefights just so we can see their bloom effect. Visuals wear off the 1000th time you play a game online, but smooth performance never does.

*Every* online game should run like COD4.

I'll probably end up getting this one. I'm kind of interested to see how many more times Ubi will use "OH NOEZ! TERROISTS FROM DA SEELING!" to start firefights.
