Frontlines: Fuel of War Catch-All (formerly beta thread)

I meant to write by the time the PC demo comes out, not the patch(es), but you are correct. Reading the posts in the Kaos forums and the replies by the devs/admins hasn't led me to believe anything will change. It looks like they focused on the 360 release.

So... Battlefield Heroes?

At the least price will be right to start...

Well, I logged about 4 hours on the 360 demo last night and found it really fun & addicting. I just didn't want to put it down even though I was playing the same map over and over.

Is there a rollcall of GWJ'ers that are picking this up on the 360, or a "clan" account? I'm still on the fence about buying this as I don't know if the community will be there in the long run....

I am going to pick it up for the 360, but wont get much of a chance to play it until mid March and then I am off the ship and back at home and it GAME TIME. Well then of course my daughter is due 3 April so that might slow my game time down :).

Been playing the MP demo on Live for awhile today. I have to say it is a freaking blast! I am planning on picking this one up soon.

We should get a GWJ showing. It's a lot of fun.

I agree. It's very fun.

So far, I'm not too fond of the city streets map in the demo. Playing on it tonight, it turned into a drone fest.

I heard a rumour that Europe is only going to be able to play on the 32 player servers, the 50 man ones are US only. Has anyone hear if this is true or not?

I am going to pick this up on the way home this evening - maybe try to get a little time in this evening and possibly tomorrow. Quick question I have a second 360 that I am going to hook up to my PC monitor - how do I get audio out - I dont have speakers on my 24" Dell monitor - whats the audio workaround - I have speakers attached to my PC??

Thanks

I'm thinking of just picking it up on the 360 and double-dipping on the PC if it ever gets fixed and turns into a potential game to replace BF2142.

Yeah, you know it will be up on GoGamer for $30 in a couple of weeks.

What do you say we try and get as many GWJers into a server as we can this evening on XBL?

How many players max on the 360 version (is it 50? that seems high)? And does anyone have the bandwidth to host that max? (When will there be dedicated servers for the 360!? WHEN?)

The 50 players is on dedicate servers, think you can get upto 16 if it's an xbox hosting

This game is the first with dedicated servers.

*GLEE* I might have to pick this up on the 360 then

I know Battlefield 2 was dedicated.

I'm game for tonight if I can find a copy to rent.

I would play tonight, but it's required by law that I play Gears and Beers.

I just got to the 4th mission last night, which begins as a sniper recon mission.

I've already burned 5 of 8 "redeploys", so I need to play on the safe side for the next 4 missions, so a sniper mission is just about perfect to tame my inner John Rambo.

Overall, I'm sort of felling a little overpowered in the SP.

Take for example, the sniper loadout: .50 caliber rifle, a shotgun with almost as much range, C4 + detonator, and the pistol of doom.

The only way to get a one shot kill with the .50 is to get a head shot. Otherwise, you just gave away your position, and they try to flush you out.

But, if they do, then you have the shotgun, which apparently can stop anything at any range. Odd.

If that doesn't work, you can always wip out the pistol of doom. I call it that because it seems to completely ignore the hit system that the rest of the weapons use: wave it in the Russian's general direction and shoot a couple of rounds, and they die.

Of course, halfway through the map, you get some drones, then more drones, so you have a bunch of ways to sneak around and dispatch your enemies.

Just don't rush in to and objective and try to bull your way through, because the game has zero tolerance for that sort of stuff.

Overall, I am enjoying it, but its sort of maddening in a way as well. You sort of wish that THD got a bit more activist with Kaos and kind of smoothed out some of the balancing and AI issues.

Also, why is it that I can shoot the fuel barrels that seem to be everywhere? I love doing that, because it seems completely anathema to the plot, and the enemy seems to love hiding around them.

There should be a penalty for people like me.

Kaos is hosting ded servers. I tried a 50 man the other night and it was sans lag.

I ended up buying it and i am loving it its a real blast to play. If you have a decent squad its even better. I an looking for more ppl to play with so he you have space feel free to add me. Also i think there is a bug they are working on fixing that is stopping you logging on to some of the servers.

I'm going to cave and pick it up today for the 360 - anyone up for some games Saturday night?

Is this true?

From the Planet Frontlines faq:

For the Xbox 360, Frontlines: Fuel of War will support 50 players on dedicated Kaos servers, and up to 16 players on player-run servers.

So are you definate;y going to pick it up?

It is in my grubby little hands right now, my wife just dropped it off for me. My daughter has a soccer game in about an hour and then we are going out to dinner; I'll be on sometime after that (probably around 7:30 - 8:00).

Jeez, they friggin locked their "first impressions" thread because they were getting ripped on the lack of anti-cheating plus teh other bugs and server browser and also their lack of responsiveness.

What a bunch of tools.

I think I will just wait for R6 Vegas 2 later this month.

Yeah, that is why I went with the 360 version. If the PC version gets fixed, I'll might buy it if other do.

I think this is a definite 360 game. Seems like the PC got the short end of the stick on this one.

But this is seriously a ton of fun. The gameplay is simple enough, but allows for some really interesting strategies. I love the idea of the frontline moving back and forth as each team captures their objectives. But the game does have some issues.

The main thing they have dorked on the game, however, is the communication. While there are 8-25 guys on your team, you cannot chat with them. If you form a squad, you can chat with your squad. If they at least let squad leaders chat, then there could be some serious strategy. As it is, no one is talking, so people just kind of do their own thing, and help out teammates. There is not even any chatting in the lobby, waiting for a game to start. Not sure how they messed that up.

I rented the game last night after playing the heck out of the demo. I played through some of the single player, which is actually a lot more fun than the reviews give it credit for. I may try to finish out the single player game before returning it, but they need to release a chat patch to make this a buy. It's too bad, as this game really is fun to play. They nailed that part of the game. But once this game loses momentum, I'm afraid it will die on the vine. You really need a lot of people playing to make this fun.
