The GWJ 2007 GOTY Awards!

Friggin' great job, Sinatar! Now you'll have more time to actually play those games

Eh, just treat all Orange Box contents as one game, and Crackdown cracks (/chuckle) the top 10!

I don't wanna hear anyone complain about a game's short length ever again. EVER.

Oh, and good work Sinatar!

7 of the top 10 came out on the PC. A shame PC gaming is dead. ;)

Yeah yeah, good point. Go back to your room now.

Definitely a much more satisfying list overall this year than last.

Definitely. Any posts claiming something is awesome but that five hours long is too short will be met with an abundance of rolley eyed smileys. Perhaps even the one giant rolley eyed smiley that's puking yet more rolley eyed smileys from it's great mouth.

Yeah. Between the winners here and the pile of shame I think it should be abundantly clear that games not being long enough isn't a huge problem for most of us.

No big deal since they're runner ups but how did Halo3 beat out CoD4 in the 360 dept?

Not "exclusive"

You know, I looked back at last year's GOTY vote, when Oblivion beat out Gears almost 2 to 1. I assumed it was because Oblivion was available on the PC and had a larger potential audience. However, about the same number of goodjers voted for both games - 51 for Oblivion and 47 for Gears I believe. People just had an overall better experience with Oblivion. I've heard much the same for COD4.

Can't say that the sales for Halo & COD4 matched our vote though.

When I look at the number of boxes on my shelf and the list of titles dating back several years that I always said I would get around to, I really start to wish that some of these games had campaigns as long as COD4 or Portal. Instead a good chunk of them say "Over 40 hours of gameplay!" and it makes me cringe.

I firmly believe Portal won (and is getting so much attention elsewhere, too) ***because*** it is so short. I would never have finished it otherwise.

I hope we see MORE 3-6 hour games. Not at $50, but definitely, a more focused experience that busy people with very few hours per week to play can actually finish in a week or so would, I think, be a huge boon to the grown-up gamer market.

I am surprised that HL2 Episode 2 was so high not that it was a bad game or anything but because it's basically an expansion though so is Civ IV BYS so it's all good great list everyone :D

I'm a bit surprised by the Episode 2 love as well. It was good but at six hours and with pretty established gameplay I can't say it was a major highlight for me this year.

Well, if you're list is like mine, you had trouble shoring up ten games that you played in 2007 that came out in 2007. What can I say? I like bargain prices.

Switchball 4

Woohoo!

I can't believe Switchball got 4 whole votes.

It's a definite contender for Best (casual) Game No One Played '07, as long as you ignore the heart-wrenching Zack & Wiki single vote.

We did it, guys! We did it! I'll bring cake to the next meeting.

...Cake?!

Oh, no... Cake is a LIE! He means to murder us all. Run while you can!

Remember when the conspiracy meeting room was sliding into the fire pit and I said "Goodbye" and you were like "No way" and then I was all "I was just pretending to murder you"?

That was great!

I'd give Zack and Wiki a try if you could... you know... walk into a store and buy a Wii. I definitely got to a point where I wanted to at least try Mario.

Nice results for the DS. I am quite glad that Hotel Dusk got recognition it deserves. Same for Picross. I know it's just a few votes, but still.

Oh don't get me wrong. I'm with you. But I see games being criticized regularly for this and I personally crave those. Those short and great games, that is. You don't think it's worth $50: Rent it.

I'm surprised Hotel Dusk got any. I tried to like it, but that game was like a tranquilizer to me. I'd be nearly dead asleep within about 10 minutes of starting it, every time. Picross is a lot of fun, though. I've just got back into it recently. It's the perfect morning subway game: easy to stop and save, no story to lose track of, and dumb and simple enough to keep me occupied while my brain is not yet functional.

Didn't realize you had gotten rid of your Wii! Tsk, tsk. But then, you wouldn't be DS if you hadn't gotten rid of a console that you know wish you had back!

So who gets Peggle first, the 360 or the Wii?

Yeah. We have to toss out the console sell as a given. That's going to happen. The problem is that I can't buy it again right now.

Not wanting to nit-pick here, but didn't Metroid Prime 3 get more votes than the other Wii runners-up?

Shenanigans! I knew Sinatar was paid off by the pro-Wario Ware lobbyists, and now I finally have the proof.

It wouldn't be a GOTY award thingy without me miscounting something.

If you're gonna buy and sell consoles, that's the one to do it with at least.
