Official Team Fortress 2 Game Nights (PC)

For a newcomer John you were putting the hurt on me pretty efficiently. Even got a domination on me for a few seconds until my flamethrower fuel avenged my corpse.
Odd that in all those rounds I don't think were ever made the same team.

Nice games tonight, though MyBrainHz, make sure not to overdue it with the events.

Zuh? When I made the event last night there were 3 of us on Stan's. If it's irritating I apologize - I don't want to be overbearing.

Not that there was a problem last night, just make sure it doesn't become something where we have a TF2 event every night; keep in mind that there are the regularly scheduled events on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. This week has been odd, because no events were scheduled directly on holidays, and we've had a number of impromptu events: a Boxing Day event that was too early and didn't attract many people, another event later that day when the server started getting active, and then your own event last night; and we still have the scheduled event tonight.

Yeah, 0Johnny0, it is hard for me to keep track of who is making comments in the thick of it unless I recognize the voice. 'oh well, just a point of personal curiosity, as I used to do some radio work back in college (I don't stutter like I do in the server, but for some reason I'm not very good at talking and playing at the same time). My voice sounds deep when I talk, but when I hear a recording of myself, it sounds squeaky to me. I don't believe either is truly representative of how my voice sounds, so I'm always curious about what other people have to say on the matter.

Don't worry Tan as long as I'm here no one will be Squeekier than me! Suuuuupeeeer chipmunk vooooooiccccce power NNNNOOOOWWWWWWW!!!!!

Pharacon's voice is a manly squeak.

I made some map changes to the server.

Download all of the maps before jumping on the server.

You can get the full list with links from the server thread in my signature.

God bless you. I am SO sick of CTF standstills it's not even funny.

You are keeping Impact? I thought it would be Freezers if any maps were saved from that last batch.

Great playing with everybody. Was feeling a little rusty but managed to still get in some nice wrench shots.

I don't think we have played Impact enough to decide on it yet. From the polls I took, not a lot seemed to like Freezers.

I miss Snofort already.

GG's games tonight. Gotta give props to Distant tonight. Single handly shut down Jakeleg and I on Gravelpit. Just as I was thinking about handing out the best spy award to Tkyl, Distant comes in and dominates. Now this next part is just for fun so please do not take any offense to this and this is only my opinion. So here it is......"Atlas's Year-End Awards".

Best Medic: Fen Honorable Mention: Last Exile and MyBrainHz
Best Engineer: Edgar Newt Honorable Mention: Zedian
Best Pyro: None (I kill them all!)
BestScout: Goldensly Honorable Mention: Anodyne
Best Sniper: Subaltern Honorable Mention: Nossid, Tkyl
Best Soldier: Rebel Blob Honorable Mention: HandsInMyPants
Best Demoman: Dr. Awkward Honorable Mention: MoonDragon
Best Heavy: Jakeleg Honorable Mention: Atlas
Best Spy: Distantsound & Tkyl Honorable Mention: 13th
Best All Around Player and MVP: Pharacon

Would like to know everyone else's thoughts.

I'm glad Atlas didn't nominate a best Pyro. That way I can just insert my own name there when I read his list to myself

Thought I'd share some recent screenshots.

Ranalin, just chillin' next to the intel:

Is that a rocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

Ah, the rare "snub-nosed" sentry gun:

Oh, and that gravel-pit-style map that I found is called CP_Wolf.

Poor Jadawin got to the party just a little too late:

A welcome sight to a pyro as he dies, all hail the consuming flame!

I discovered this ambush spot tonight, unfortunately this is the only screenshot that actually worked, so it doesn't show it off very well:

By the way, Jakeleg, I found this CP map that looks interesting, to me at least: cp_science_b5.

Just wait till i start playing Pyro hardcore again

one of the things that cracks me up is that when the heavy is on the killing spree, one thing he'll say is "da da da da da da DAH DAH DAH DAH DAH DAH" and it sounds hilarious.

I take no personal offense. I merely have a post-it note stuck to my computer now that say "KILL ATLAS THE BETRAYER!"

Your the one that started the backstabbing. LOL!

Well, the list seems pretty fare all in all. I'm unsure about my place, but you may have noticed that I am all over the map when it comes to classes.

By the way, which Heavy song is it that you like? He has three different songs that I know about:

Ah shucks Atlas, Thanks. I'd like to thank my parents, uhh... Gamers With Jobs... oh, and God because without him I wouldn't be here! When do I get my golden scout?

Thanks for the compliment. It was good to finally get to dominate you and Jakeleg after so many times you guys dominated me.

Here I was thinking I could be "Teh Suck" along side Duck and have someone to laugh at our n00bish ways with, and low and behold, I see him listed on a screen shot as one of the top 3 on a winning team! 8I

And here I am happy with surviving for 3 minutes and accumulating 9 assists before my latest divorce from my head!

Fun stuff, though. Even gave soldier a try once when there were only 2 others on the team (seemed like a waste trying to heal to spies). I was expecting a lot of garbage, abuse, and general lameness on the public servers, but they've been surprisingly fun, too. There always seems to be something going on at home when GWJ Events are running so far. I take it that Stan's really only fills up when there is scheduled runs?

No, it can fill up whenever some people are on. The main thing is events suggest going where as it is completely vonluntary otherwise.

Generally, at least basing on the trends of the last several weeks, the server fills up to at least 3/4 capacity most worknights. I would say it gets active about five out of seven nights of the week, with the peak being between 10 and 12 PM EST. The scheduled official game nights are your best bet to find a full game going, but you can check the server stats to see how the server is doing at any time. Also, if you leave Steam on, someone usually posts an impromptu announcement if Stan's is filling up. One last thing you can try is adding a number of people from Stan's to your Friends List, and keep tab of activity that way.

By the way, Jakeleg, I've been checking out custom maps on the side. I do have a few recommendations:

ctf_quarry_v2 - If we are going to keep a custom CTF map on the server, I prefer this one to Impact. It has a nice arena area in the middle, that tends to concentrate the action, while providing plenty of alternate routes and cover. The bases have a number of suitable side passages, which makes it more difficult to turtle with complete success. The games I have played on this map have been pretty action-packed and have moved quickly. At this time, it is my favorite custom CTF map.

cp_wolf - Wolf is the map that NSMike recommended just a short while ago. From my experience, it shares the same weaknesses as Castle. A large segment of the map is large and open, with unbroken sight lines that really give an advantage to snipers. Also like Castle, it is a bit on the easy side to defend. It is setup like Gravel Pit, though it plays quite differently because of how the capture points are arranged. It is an okay map, and different from most of the custom maps because of the Gravel Pit capture point scheme, though I think if it is put into rotation, it would be strictly until something better comes along. I don't enthusiastically recommend it, but you might want to take a look.

Oh, I mentioned that above. Jakeleg was carrying me on that one, IIRC.

Damn it felt good to get back in-game, if only for a few minutes. Unfortunately I have houseguests and the football game is about to run its diversionary course. Sorry for logging so quickly.

I don't get to play again until probably Monday night or sometime thereafter. My motherboard evidently decided to go on the fritz. So I used it as an excuse to buy some new hardware because I was running on 3+ year old stuff. So its crappy that I had to spend money and can't play, but I will be getting a quad core processor and 8800gt.

Excellent games tonight. Medic seems to be turning into a much more popular role. I tend to play primarily / exclusively as a medic and this is the 2nd night running I've jumped in and had 2 medics going on my team and so I had to choose another class. Nice to feel the environment shift and evolve. It doesn't feel stale yet!

Probably my most favorite classic CTF map of all time.

Now if only they'd remake the gas chamber map.

I just started playing on Stans (usually play with the OO group but their server seems to be no more). I've lurked on GWJ for several years now. I play a lot of medic so if I'm on, there's probably a 75% chance I'm playing as medic. I've logged almost double the number of hours as a medic as my second class (soldier). I figured since I was new to Stan's I'd try to put my 'best foot forward' and be a medic. Additionally, being a medic is a lot more fun when there are good players to heal.
