I go for medics anyways. If I hear a medic, I run towards him to kill him and his ward.
Generally, that helps my team more than cloak and dagger engineer hassling.

I wish every spy thought this way, instead of racking up cheap kills on snipers, etc... padding their score but doing little to help the team.

Too many spies choose the easiest targets rather than the most valuable ones. Spies that take out one valuable target in a warzone before getting blown up, rather than racking up five cheap and easy kills in relative safety, don't get rewarded on the scoreboard but deserve recognition. Unfortunately, in the chaos, it's hard to recognize exactly what the spies are doing, but to those who give up the easy points in favor of helping the team, props to you.

You just want us to run straight at you so you can bonesaw us in the face.

You got the wrong guy, I don't play no sissy Medic.

Maybe, but all I know is that the people I have come to fear the most as a spy aren't the heavies or the pyros. Its the freaking medics who don't trust anyone and are always facing the rear so that they see every spy popping out of cloak.

Oh, and in regards to spies who just take out engineers: I was just taking a look at the HLstatsX scores.

Killing a medic and heavy pair that are about to wipe out you entire team if they are allowed to uber = 2 points
Sapping all of an engi's buildings and destroying them = 22 points
Sapping all of an engi's buildings, not destroying them, getting beat down by the engi's wrench and having to wait 15 seconds to respawn = 8 points
Making stats that promote idiotic behavior = Priceless

Well said, Tkyl.

Not at all, carry on.

Don't get me wrong, killing snipers is fun, but they are generally well behind the heavy medics.
Medics tend to be on the front lines, so you can decloak between the front and back and go to town.
In the back lines, are the easy points, but it alerts everyone on the front lines.

hehe fun times everyone... speaking of spying and dying for the team! On 2fort this night they had two gun setup in the courtyard just before my team pushed in I ran in as spy and started sapping everything. My team pushed and got through with a cap of the flag as well. Also I saw Tkyl sap all of our sentries and crap guarding B point in gravel pit right before they pushed in tonight allowing them to cap.

I would say that the people that play spies on the server know what they are doing and if you keep getting people sneaking around back its more then likely a guy learning the trade. I know I play spy for the thrill of stabbing and getting away, not stat points. Best moment tonight: In the final seconds I almost had C point capped after killing and sapping a guarding engineer then racing up the tower and stabbing a pyro and solider surviving Dr_ Awkward's pipe bombs . I was about 1 second away from cap when another pyro ran up and owned me but man was my heart racing!

two pictures for tonight

When I first joint the server the only people killing me where freaking medics!

Good games tonight, though it is still amazing how many players we lose on the new maps. Tykl must have worn out his knifing arm with all the backstabs he was raking in.

On Hydro, the Blue team went entirely pyro, and was able to able to win the map two times before Red was able to defuse the deadly pyro rush. A quick screenshot from the beginning of a round, we never even took the time to pose for pictures:

Here's a pic I took of the Pyro Brigade:

These guys were like Pyro Pirhannas. I wish I could have snapped a picture of them skeletonizing a Heavy in under 3 seconds.

haha the Pyro rush was pretty damn funny.. every now and then one would get past the wall and make it onto our cap point but we would kill them just before they capped.. funny as heck.

We where waiting for the other team to go All heavy but it never happen

Someday I want to be behind an uncloaking spy, heal him as he approaches a heavy, then bonesaw him at the last moment. It'd be so beautiful.

pyro rush is deadly

I missed the Pyro rush? I MISSED THE PYRO RUSH!?!

That'll learn me to leave early.

I'm bummed that I missed the pyro rush myself. Computer, j'accuse.

See that why you got to learn to ride it out till at least 12 am CST every night cause about 11 -11:30 we get into the crazy stuff! (or at least when we get on Hydro lol)

I think the secret really was the fact that everybody hates Hydro. Even after we steamrolled the first 3 stages, the only response from the reds was "at least it was quick" and "please put us out of our misery so we can get to the next map" :).

I used to hate hydro, but it's growing on me again. Of course, everyone started playing last night after I had already gone to bed. I just love having a job starting at 8:00 AM and having an hour long commute.

Hydro is in the middle for me, by order of preference for the official maps goes: Gravel Pit, Dustbowl, Hydro, Granary, Well. The big problem with Hydro is that some of the smaller maps are better than others. For example, the one with the two small caverns connecting the capture points, where it nearly always goes into Sudden Death because the cavern exits are too easy to defend.

Gameraotaku, you forgot: "This is unfair, you have one more player than us."

I'm with ya Mike. I want to stay up past 11CST but the next morning always sucks.

What sucks is being used to being up till 2AM and then coming home for christmas and getting yelled at for being on past 10:30.

Ok, after a hard day of pubbing, I have some NEW MAP SUGGESTIONS!
cp_shock
ctf_quarry
and for kicks and giggles
melee_ringking

Can we get a list of all the maps on the server on the first post. I'd like to be able to download them beforehand.

After looking at Shock in-game, I'm not a fan. It is much too large, and much too open.

I think RingKing would get old really quickly, though I'm not opposed to the idea of a melee-only map. I do like MeleeBarn better, it has three melee arenas that are won Gravel-Pit style.

If you want Quarry, it is better if we use Quarry V2. The second version of Quarry looks okay, if a bit confusing at first. I'm sure if it is added to the server, those minecarts will rack up an impressive amount of kills. I'll make another video if it comes down to it.

One CP map I like the look of is Junction, though I think it needs at least one revision by the author before it is in a state to even recommend adding it to the server.

Finally, somebody gets a screenshot of little ol' Edgar. Thanks for posting it. They don't allow mirrors where I am.

So I finally got my final class completed for the head of the class achievement... it was spy. >.<

I never thought it was that one being that I have like 5x as much time on spies as I do any other class.

I'm all for trying new maps, and on occasion I enjoy playing games with special rulesets, but lets keep the maps on Stan's Lounge in the spirit of the actual game. That's my vote atleast.

Motion: seconded

Just a statement to set expectations about new maps: I am picky about custom maps. A map has to be really superb to get permanently in the rotation on any server I run. Nothing I've seen so far from the community is a real "keeper." I most assuredly won't be putting "novelty" arena-type maps in the rotation. If you guys give me suggestions, I will check out the maps myself and if I think they are worthwhile, I will load them up in the rotation. But be aware, I don't like continually throwing content onto the server as it waters it down and players never get a chance to really learn the nuances of a new map. Keeping 9 or 10 maps in the rotation at any one time is a good target as it provides enough variety in one 3-4 hour session, but still allows all of the maps to get played frequently. If you are looking for a server that rolls out dozens of maps, there are plenty of those out there.

"Help! Help!", we all cry in unison as we are singed by his paltry gaze.
