It was nice watching, especially since I can't get on and play it myself right now.

Whoops. Sometimes I forget my obligation to give back when I'm on the old net.

I watched the video, it was a great thing to have this morning without TF2 available. I haven't played the map but felt like I at least have an idea of what's important - basic layout, where the intel is and where it goes.

It's probably too soon (and a lot more work) to add any strategy tips to a walkthrough, so it was a god "get oriented" guide.
Since we've added a lot of new maps recently, you can get really surprised on a map you've never played before and then the round is over before you get a chance to get oriented. Then the next time it comes up you still don't know what's going on. That's where something like this is really useful.

Well my map I want to construct it in such a way that I can have multiple flavors. Like have a defend/attack and a Territory control as well or CTF. Or maybe double assault like Granary? I'm aiming for a vanilla defend/attack for the moment then try to experiment with the other flavors.

We will see what happens..

I have listened to 7 of the Control Point podcasts so far. Really good stuff. I am planning on giving their server a try since they seem to enjoy trying user-made maps (no matter how crappy ).

Yeah, they really have a thing for DuelDuel2 or whatever the map is called, which sounds awful, basically a square room with spawn rooms on either end. I suppose thats reducing the game to its essence.

The CP podcast is much better than the server. Sadly, they took the password off and it's barely better than your standard public server anymore.

Okay, did the rest of the maps.

That was my idea with these videos, any advice I could add in at this point would be really obvious, and half the fun of a new map is figuring out strategies. I'm just attempting to prevent people from being completely lost when a new map starts up. Also, didn't want to subject you to my lovely voice for longer than necessary, so I was trimming things down as much as possible.

Thanks for those videos, they were quite helpful. I'd already taken a look around in Freezers myself, but that was my first look at Impact and Snofort. Impact in particular looks like it could play pretty well.

By the way, I noticed that the official game announcements on Steam had run out, and that scheduling them wasn't restricted, so I added them in for the rest of the month. Excepting those dates that fall on holidays (games would have been scheduled on Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Years Eve), where I thought a scheduled event would be unnecessary.

Anyway, some screenshots from tonights games:

I didn't realize TF2 featured decapitation

When the server switched over to Smooth, something strange happened, the entire map looked tilted, though it didn't effect movement at all:

Poor nosid got stuck on Hydro, it had our team in stitches:

I've really enjoyed playing these last 2 weeks. May be a dumb question, but how often are events scheduled. So far, I've just been putzing on my computer when I get a notification and join up.

Good games last night, I had a lot of fun. There's nothing quite like Gumbie and Staats' homoerotic banter to help pass the time.

There are events on Monday and Friday at 9 PM EST, and Tuesday at 11 PM EST, but just about every night of the week, you can find a few of us just hanging around. Usually not many unless there is an event scheduled, though.

The "official" TF2 PC nights are Monday and Friday. However, you can usually find several of us on throughout the week.

"Where are there girls making out?"

Even on off nights, the server can fill up pretty quickly. My friends list is filled with GWJers, so if I notice a bunch of us are playing on various pub servers, I'll hop on to Stan's and schedule an event manually. That seems pretty effective.

Special thanks to ElliotX for healing me up on Snofort last night and for every sniper targetting me. And to everyone on Well, especially Tkyl for repeatedly backstabbing me just as I got my uber charge. It almost makes me wish there were a way to disable the automatic shout "I'm fully charged!"

It was good to play with you guys again. I'm going to take my laptop with me on vacation but it's a poor connection and a less powerful machine, so I expect to get killed more often.

I had a great time last night playing a medic. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite classes but it became very obvious to me that I only know how to play a medic in an "open" map. 2Fort quickly revealed my medic shortcomings. At the very least, playing as a medic is good at forcing me to team up with somebody. As most people know, if you get into a firefight with me, odds are I'm very alone.

And after that great run with Scaphism, I now understand why medics try to stick with one partner during a match.

For xmas, I want a soldier who has a syringe gun as his secondary weapon. The syringe gun's trajectory just lines up perfectly with my circle straffing style.

having trouble playing from home.
This will be made worse when I leave for the ancestral lands in rural Alabama on thursday for a week.
Curses.

It felt very exploitish seeing through the floor like that, except that it would be utterly useless to do on purpose and would probably be the dumbest looking exploit ever.

I like how you have your shotgun pointed up at the ceiling. If that baby from Trainspotting shows up, you're ready.

Nice reference.

Actually, when ever I'm playing a spy if I hear the "I'm fully charged" or the electric crackling of the uber-charge, I make it a personal mission to kill the medic. Even if it means certain death for me.

In regards to the maps, I really liked snofort. Even though it was very simple, it seemed like it had something for everyone to do.

It's a wonderful Christmas gift when I hear those words. I also think spies should be able to hear opposing radio chat while disguised =p

I love using the there's a spy here taunt to lure engineers away from their stuff.
hehe.

Believe me, I know you guys are listening for it!
In response, I wish it was available as a voice com so I could use it as a feint to draw you out!

I go for medics anyways. If I hear a medic, I run towards him to kill him and his ward.
Generally, that helps my team more than cloak and dagger engineer hassling.

I'm of the same mind. Heavy/Medics and Soldier/Medics can really devastate my team's camp. I try to wait to sap sentries when I know my team is about to rush so that the knockback ruin the push.

Agreed. I try to only go for engineers when I see an opening, or if I know my team is rounding a corner and I can distract the engi long enough to allow my teammates to take down the SG.

Ja, thanks for the help on Impact last night. That poor engineer (don't remember who exactly, Boogle or nossid perhaps) didn't have a chance between our soldier/spy combination.

Just a reminder, please download the maps before you play on the server. Last night the new maps were really empty as most of the server dropped out to download them, sometimes the rotation moved on before the majority of players even had a chance to join. It is also nice to familiarize yourself with the basic layout of the maps (if you have the chance), though solitary exploration or my shamelessly promoted videos, so have a basic idea of how the maps work. The abnormal capture point on Smooth is one big issue, and it is nice to know about things like the breakable glass on Impact.

As a medic I feel compelled to state that I hate all of you. Especially the spies.

That is all.

:p

I wasn't on last night due to being at home and not the dorms.
And engineers are so spy wary it makes spies less likely to attack them unless needed.
I heard some engies on another forum saying they use tele's to spy detect to lure spies into their sentries.
Teles are an engies main purpose so I sap sap sap away!
