APF2k8 - Legends League S2 - Week 1

Time to play. The season has started, schedule your games. Are you ready for some Football?

I tried my best to produce a sane schedule that would give everyone a fair amount of home games and no duplicate games. I may have made mistakes, but I tried. Hope everyone has fun.

Thanks, DS. I made some edits to my team last night, but at the last second chickened out. I did get rid of the orange pants, though.

Gumbie, it's you and me! My schedule will be a kind of crazy for a few days. I work until Midnight tonight and Saturday. While I get off at 8pm Sunday, we will be watching the Survivor Finale (anyone catch this? Great season, imo). Then working until Midnight on Monday. I'm finally free Tuesday. But I am always up for late night games, or playing in the AM.

Let me know what times are good for you, and I can try to arrange time that will fit.

Available off and on Saturday and Sunday, Fred.

Wow, you did change your team around significantly, Jayhawker. You did what I dared not do, that being to go without a Gold RB again this season. I hope I don't regret giving up on my favorite player ever (Okoye) in favor of a lesser Chief (Allen).

Ooh... It's time? Who do I play? We'll see if my college team can run with the big boys.

Just looked at your team. Campbell is making a return?

Yeah, and this time we're not abandoning the running game just because you people might get your feelings hurt. :P*

Here's you freebie of the season: if you play the Longhorns, keep 8 in the box... all night long.

And put a spy on Cunningham. He's got legs, and he knows how to use them. (Injuries are off, right?)

*Confession: I (apparently) suck at passing - 48.2 rating in S1 - so the less I throw, the less chance there is that you're going to pick it off.

Injuries should be off. If they're not I'll turn them off so no one gets stuck with a backup QB all season. Although I then became a bit of a Cinderella story after that.

6-4, Made it to the Semi-finals and here are the stats for my backup, Mark Blake.

RAT COM ATT PCT YDS YPA TD INT LNG SK
96.2 102 213 47.9 2491 11.7 21 14 83 12

A magical run, the likes of which we won't see with a backup QB again.

EDIT: Looking at the stats is painful. I had 896 yards with Okoye. Man, I should have stuck with him. Oh well, we'll see for season 3. I doubt I'll get 896 yards with Allen. Dang.

Most popular player of S2: McDaniel, Terry. He's on 7/10 teams.

Yeah, that's one of my favorite parts, actually. Who did everyone choose? I can't see how to see that without going through team by team, though.

This is my favorite stat of last season: notice anything?

This is the screen I used to make the determination. It's no good for seeing it team-by-team (but you're already doing that) but works for what I was trying to do.

I was amused to see I had the only Campbell and the only Butkus in the league.

Another thing I find interesting is that the non-star players are not entirely randomly generated based on the number of times the exact same name is repeated at the same position, even in a relatively small 10-team league.

Sorry guys, I went to Florida for a week and forgot to sign up before I left. I'll keep on the lookout for Season III!!! Good luck to everyone this season.

Those are some fun pages. Thanks, Grumpicus. Interesting note. Okoye was the leading rusher last year not named Otis Anderson or Earl Campbell. Dang. Well, Season 3 if Marcus doesn't work out.

The second link is also fun. I knew about names being not really random I discovered that when remaking my teams and finding that names would keep coming up. The other interesting part is seeing that we're not abusing the same players as much as last year.

Dear god I hope injuries are off. After the ass whippin Mark Blake put on me last season I hope I never have to face him again.

Game on!! Let me know when you want to play.

Jay,

If you're up to it and I haven't had too many beers we might could play tonight after you get off work, or I can get a late game in Sunday. If not we'll just go with Tuesday.

I'll give you a more definite time, but I'll be around Saturday from like 10am to 5pm-ish. I'm on PST. Sunday I should be around 1pm on.

chris when do you want to play let me know. Im on every night

Hey Ruthless... can we try Sunday night?

Hey,I can play any weekday night after 8pm let me know what is best for you.

Well, Gumbie and I kicked off Season II last night.

Let's just say the football Gods were kind to the Gunslingers, I was able to jump out in front of Gumbie's Gladiators early, and then ride that to a 27-13 win. Gumbie was never able to mount any long drives, as my defense just seemed to take over the game early. Much of the game seemed to hinge on our pass rushes. My Joe Montana had lots of time throw, while I put lots of pressure on his Steve Bartowski.

Montana was incredible, completing 21 of 26 with two touchdowns for a passer rating of 134.5. After getting the lead, I was then able to ride the Nigerian Nightmare for 25 carries and 103 yards, along with two TDs. His longest run was just 10 yards, so he really wore down the defense over time.

Defensively, my secondary took over the game, as we had 11 deflected passes. Lem barney had six himself, along with one of my two INTs. That was probably the difference n the game, as we both had the same CBs. His Barney and McDaniel had zero deflections, while my McDaniel added three deflections. It just felt like the football Gods decided to make my guys inhuman.

To Gumbie's credit, he plucked away and started to move the ball, and hit Maynard for 66 yard TD pass. OJ Simpson took over one drive and scored his other TD.

It was fun to have a nice start, but I know how fleeting these kinds of performances can be. Not only did I get the good versions of players we shared, but I also caught lots of breaks, as Gumbie got hit with a couple of critical 15 yard penalties, and lost a challenge that it seemed like he should have won when it seemed clear that my Maynard did not get both feet down in bounds on a third down reception.

Good luck the rest of the way, Gumbie, as I know you will have better games than this.

Frankie and I got our game in tonight. He bested me 10-7, and my TD came with only 50 sec left in the game. I could not kick a 30 yard field goal. Not only did I miss two before giving up, but they were both INCREDIBLY SHORT! How is one short on a 30 yard field goal...with the wind???

Was a great game, Frankie. Learned a lot about my team...some of it good! Unitas is a god.

So can you play today, Fred? I'll be on after like 2pm PST, I think.

im on so when ever you want to play

Ruthless has an unstoppable pass offense... beware!

I can play when we need to. Let me know a time and we can get going. We missed each other yesterday. I guess you were on around 9:00pm and had gotten there about 9:30.

Baggachipz. I know you're around... When we going to play? I'm good to go most any night after 9:30c.

How about tomorrow night, 9:30c?

I have to solo the children but, assuming I get them to bed in time and you don't mind the slim possibility that I may have to pause a time or two to tan some... er... tuck them back in bed, tomorrow at 9:30c sounds fine.

Fred. I'll be around tomorrow night. Sorry for the lack of reply. Had a Blazers game tonight and I just got back.

No Problem. The only request I have is to play a little earlier then 10pm Pacific. That puts me at around 1am at game start. If at all possible in the 8pm (pacific) range would be better. I will be going out of town for Christmas on Friday so if we can get it in before that it would be awesome. If not I should be back on New Years day.
