GWJ Plays Dark Souls [Part 2]

Section:

This week Cory and I assault the Gaping Dragon in Dark Souls. The dragon is so nice we did it twice.

Comments

Nice video. Even though the Gaping Dragon is one of the easier bosses in Dark Souls it still has a pretty cool design. For some reason I was never able to cut off the tail when I fought it, I think I wasn't attacking it in the right place.

Spoiler:

I found that the Drake Sword actually sucks for that fight since you can't use Gold Pine Resin on it. I think I used a +3 Claymore with Gold Pine Resin and was going a ton more damage. Also you do extra damage if you hit the head after he slams down his upper body but before he does the charge. You can cheese the fight by constantly baiting that attack by standing far enough away in front of him.

Also that goo attack he does occasionally is supposed to reduce the durability of your equipment, fortunately he doesn't do it very often.

Sounds dirty. Assaulting the gaping dragon.

Good stuff! Glad to see you guys are doing multiple videos for this. Also excited to hear that you might do a video trying to take down the wonder twins (Ornstein and Smough). That should be...hilarious

I can't wait to watch this when I have some idle time

Loving these Dark Souls videos. I'm only at the roof gargoyles so far in my play through so it's been fun to see what will be coming.

Watching it now. Great job fixing the voip audio as compared to last time. Much better!

Here's the video they were referring to. It's NSFW due to language that is used when you play Dark Souls.

Entertaining, but you guys need to be a bit more brave!

Also, Shawn, if you're going to stick with your Grass Crest Shield, I'd advise you to upgrade it. The base stability is pretty low (51) so it's going to use a lot of stamina when you block. If you can't upgrade yet, the Knight Shield (60 stability) or one of the Kite shields (58) are a better bet, plus these shields block 100% physical, whereas the GCS blocks only 92%.

Definitely what YellowMegaMan said- that is one thing I wish I knew earlier in playing Dark Souls (The higher the stability of your shield, the less of your stamina bar is depleted when you block). Might I recommend the Greatshield of Artorias eventually! (though, it is heavy)

I never did use Lautrec, he seemed to last a while in the fight. Solaire always dies really fast for me.

When he spews all the nastiness, I believe if you wade in it for a bit, it breaks your equipment (lowers durability)

Looking forward to the next video!

I've not played DS — as I discovered I wasn't man enough when I tried Demon Souls. But I loved hearing "I reinforced my Estus flask at the Firelink Shrine." You can't get much more geeky than language like that.

If you had a hard time with DeS, you might still like DkS. I found DkS much less aggravating, they really did smooth out some of the more ridiculous aspects of DeS. The only thing I've had trouble with really is the Four Kings, and only on NG+ and when I was doing my low-level run (level 22) on NG.

This. I played DkS first and am now on my way through DeS. I might never have made it to DkS if DeS was my first. There's just a bunch of things that really get to me. But knowing what the rest of the game is like, I push through those parts.

Wow. There were lots of disgusting things in that video. I though you were fighting guys with two balloon like heads until I realised they were giant goggly eyed frogs.

Looking forward to more episodes.
