May 6 – May 10

Section:

It's one of those weeks where you can count the number of releases available on two hands, with enough fingers left over to throw a bowling ball. And, as far as I can tell, none of the available games this week come in any kind of physical form.

Honestly, I can't say that anything on the generally small list does much for me, but I have heard Julian Murdoch prattle on about Pinball FX2 and its long journey to a PC release enough that I feel somewhat pre-programmed to single the title out for attention. And, the original Pinball FX entertained me on several devices over a reasonable span to the point that even as I'm sitting here thinking about it, I kind of want to play FX2. Heck, with the action on my mechanical keyboard, it might just be some good fun.

You might want to buckle in for a quiet couple of months on the old release list. There are a few things here an there coming up in the next handful of weeks, games like Metro: Last Light, Remember Me and the big summer release of The Last of Us, but they are isolated occurrences and not the norm.

Until the first hints of the holiday season start hitting in late September, your wallet can breathe a little easier.

PC
- Pinball FX2 (download)
- Residue (download)

PS3
- Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly (PS2 Classic)

Wii U
- Solomon's Key (Virtual Console - $5)
- Xevious (Virtual Console - $5)

3DS
- Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move (eShop - $10)
- SpeedX 3D Hyper Edition (eShop)

Wow. Nada.

More time for Pandora's Tower and Virtue's Last Reward, then.

Nothing for me this week although glad to see Steam is finally getting some pinball games in the store.

In the meantime, the 3DS and Wii U will be hit with a nice slate of titles after the annual Nintendo drought

Something for the kids. That's nice.

Spoiler:

I'm looking forward to Minis on the Move. It looks like it could be fun.

Given that the charity McChuck and I run often has to compete with a lot of other things when we do an event during the holidays, we were joking last night that we might just move up the big hurrah to match the beginning of Release Season.

Is it just me or was the first quarter of 2013 much slower in terms of releases than previous years? Apart from Infinite and Tomb Raider, I can't think of anything off the top of my head.

I'll be sure to tell people to buy SMT IV for their kids in that case :p

Good. Raise 'em up proper.

I'd like the record to reflect that Doritos Crash Course 2 releases on May 8th for free on XBLA.

So noted.

Good, I've been thinking lately that the only thing videogames needs more of than Mountain Dew is Doritos.

Do we have Mountain Dew flavored Doritos yet?

Or Dorito flavored Mountain Dew.

No, but we do have Doritos flavored like Taco Bell's Dorito tacos.

I'll wait for the Taco Bell taco that combines them all.

Someone told their marketing department about recursion, didn't they?

If not that, I assume they're aware of Xzibit, yes?

Nothing... Good!

Another backlog reduction week.

Fatal Frame 2.. I forgot I need to buy the first one too.

They came out with those as a special "guess the flavor" chip back in '08. True story!

I was thinking the same thing. This time last year there were plenty of releases in the spring and early summer.

There are some facts better left unlearned.

They are stand alone games, and FF2 really is the best one. It should be on everyone's must play list, if getting creeped and spooked out is something they consider fun.

Crimson Butterfly was a game I couldn't finish. I was mostly all right with it while playing, although I did need breaks sometimes to let my heartrate get back to normal, but it gave me such horrific nightmares that I ended up dropping it. As scary as the game was, the nightmares were worse, so I ended up waving the white flag.

I gather that Amnesia is similar, but after my experience with FF2, I haven't played it.

You guys laugh, but Doritos Crash Course is actually quite fun. And it's free.

I've played them.. but have never really found a game as creepy.

As creepy as the Burger King Sneak King game?

A hundred weeks more like this one, and I might be able to clear my pile.

Hear, hear! Just a couple of months or three... or six... maybe freezing time while remaining free and immortal?
