April 15 – April 19

Section:

We managed to throw Sean off a bridge chain Sean in the basement "convince" Sean to take a "vacation" long enough to feature none other than Pandora's Tower this week. Pandora's Tower is the last of the three Operation Rainfall games localized by Nintendo (the other two being the extremely well-received Xenoblade and The Last Story). Through the lens of early reviews, Tower promises to be (if nothing else) an interesting experience, as well as the likely swan song for a now-obsolete console.

Otherwise it is mostly a transitional week filled with DLC. We have a new fighting game from the creators of Mortal Kombat in Injustice, a reboot of a prior MMO attempt in Darkfall, and a couple interesting "indie" games in God Mode and Sacred Citadel.

Oh yeah, also this little thing on a little handheld from a little publisher called Atlus.

It must have been very hard to decide whether to feature Pandora's Tower, the last game from Operation Rainfall, or Soul Hackers, the "lost" Sega Saturn Shin Megami Tensei game.

Soul Hackers was robbed!

It was, actually. I decided to go with Pandora's Tower because it's probably the last significant release on the Wii and Atlus is likely to see more action later this year with SMT IV, among other things. And, if nothing else, the first two Rainfall games have had copious amounts of editorial ink spilled on them.

Well done, my padawan.

Or maybe I'm the apprentice on this one....

As excited as I am for Heart of Darkness (not the first game to pick up that theme), I'm much more looking forward to the Old Gods expansion to CK2 next month.

Add Pandora's Tower to the list of games I should acquire when I finally get a Wii and complete my current gen trifecta.

SMT games rock my world so Soul Hackers is on my must buy list when I get my 3DS (soon... so soon...). Been looking forward to is as I always lamented it's absence in the West back in the day.

I don't know about early reviews; there are loads from the non-NA release last year.

Since the WiiU is out, does that make the Wii last-gen? You're already behind! :-O

And the first!

Only game for me this week was SWTOR expansion. Not exactly the content-overload you are used to from a WoW expansion. Of course the price, and development time, was much lower as well, but still, I've played patches that were bigger than this expansion

Think I'm going to have to pick up the Knife of Dunwall DLC this weekend. Yes I am.

What a weird release article. There's this vaguely japanese game I've never heard of as the headliner. That game is coming out for Wii. Sean Sands wasn't the author. The only games I was already aware of were DLC or re-releases. I might Mack the Knife of Dunwall this week.

release article.

Is that what TWA is supposed to be? Crap.

an interesting adventure game sequel to the brilliant Darkfall

You must be thinking of a different Darkfall. Darkfall Unholy Wars and its predecessor, Darkfall, are PvP MMORPGs.

Don't let people who are high post these articles anymore!

It's the only 'release article' series I have turned to over the last year or more.

Congratulations! Welcome to the other side of gaming.

Blergh! I'm going to consume value-add content to extend the existing triple-A franchise titles I already own! I'll leverage synergies! Baarrrff!

(Well, full disclosure, I already downloaded Forizon's 1000 Club, and will get the Knife of Dunwall once I've finished my third run through the main story.)

And it's the last Wii game I'll probably ever buy.

I'm down to 1 Gamecube, 1 GBA, and 1 GBC game left in my collections unbeaten. Once I'm done with those 3 and my 2013 backlog goal is complete I'm going to move to my 2014 backlog goal. Complete elimination of my Wii backlog and giving the Wii away. I only have about 12 Wii games left to finish, so ~17 months should be enough.

Oohhhh, God Mode looks intriguing...

Most likely. I did't pre-order, like I did with Xenoblade, as the hype wasn't as good for this one. And I caught The Last Story on that miracle $8 Amazon sale that one weekend. I liked it a lot more than Xenoblade as it turns out.

Still not sure about this one, but I'll probably cave when it's on sale.

Good point. Though I would think the WiiU is the first of the next-gen consoles, much like the Saturn and Dreamcast were, once... regardless of the raw power - or lack thereof - of the machine itself.

Yes, you are correct. Fixed.

Ugh, slimy, wormy things on this side.

Maaaaan, that ain't MY purple worm.

Spoiler:

you probably think I'm talking about my penis. I'm actually referring to the worm's appearance in original AD&D.
