Contra 4:DS Catch-All Thread

Contra 4 for the DS is out!?

Let me know what you think. I'm definitely going to pick this up tomorrow...

The reviews I've read so far basically said "For Contra fans... ONLY Contra fans." It's as old school as you can get. I can't wait to buy it.

Makes me want to buy a DS, along with the Castlevania titles! My 2 favorite franchises..

When you say "old school," does that mean that the game uses the d-pad/buttons only? Or are there stylus controls wedged in there? I wonder what the touch screen equivalent of the "konami code" is

Scribble scribble shout shout close the lid close the lid B A start

No touch screen controls for the gameplay. It's strictly d-pads/buttons. You might have to actually press Start too.

What disappoints me so far is the lack of multiplayer for the unlockable games. I was really hoping they would modify those games with co-op.

Got my copy at lunch today... and yep, it's Contra!
Couple of minor changes (like the grappling hook), but overall it's true to the original.

Fine with me. I like having a choice of which to use (FFIII does it right... Zelda... bah!).

Oh my... this... this looks awesome!

I'm curious, but I was never any good at Contra. Always had to resort to the code.

I know I'm just a girly man, but I'm having a tough time getting past stage 4 on easy. That boss on the ICBM, then the riding the ICBM sequence, and then the boss after the ICBM... it's a tough gauntlet to run.

edit: ooh, now I made it all the way to the huge boss at the end of stage 7. Too bad I only had 5 lives left.

I already mentioned this game, and a few others, in my recent catch-all thread FYI.
