Guitar Hero 3 Announced

GH2 controller works with GH2, 3, and some of Rock Band. Rock Band controller only works with Rock Band.

PS3 owners f*cked either way.

It's another version of Hardware Wars, only without a brown Cookie Monster. Guitar Hero is trying to milk its huge momentum from creating millions of fake-music otaku, and Rock Band is trying to beat it to death with a "superior" product (whatever that means in this context).

I just meant that the stuff that made "hard" difficult is now easier, and the stuff that made "expert" difficult is now harder.

but I've only played 5 songs.

I hate the new graphics for pretty much everything but the actual notes themselves. I dislike the grungy real look thing, I cant even see the rock meter when I'm playing, etc. etc.

Yep. I feel the same way about the UI.

I haven't had the issue with the change in quality of the note sequences. But then I'm probably not musically inclined enough to really know the difference. Maybe I'll pick up on it more in the full game as I play more and more of the tracks.

I went ahead and made a GuitarHero.com GWJ Tour Group. Recruiting is open, so anyone can join. The name is 'Rokkers with Jobs'. You can make a profile on the site even if you don't have the game yet. When you do, you'll find a passcode in the Xbox Live section of the game. You'll use that in the website to link the game and site.

Anyone on PS3, XBox and Wii can join and link. PS2 users are SOL. Im not sure about PC/Mac.

We'll need a rocking Stan avatar at some point, if anyone wants to give that a try

I had registered on the GH site last week.
I log in, find rokkers with jobs and hit the join button.
But im not showing up in the list for whatever reason.
Site was a bit slow, im sure its getting hammered, hopefully I'll show up on the list soon.

That sounds great. Hard should be what the actual game is for everyone, and expert should blow me back into a book shelf ala Back to the Future.

Crazy! Me too! Explosive High five!

For all the innovation that the "new-gen" of consoles have brought us, there's one thing that will apparently never change: ridiculously over-priced accessories. Giving the wireless Guitar Hero III controller a feature it should have had from the get go is the $19.99 single recharge kit, which removes the need to use and dispose of single-use batteries. This continues on from the precedent that Microsoft set with its wireless controller, which only comes bundled with a case to stick a couple of AA batteries inside. You can grudgingly pick up this necessary but over-priced accessory on October 31st from Red Octane's store.

It's available now via Gamefly.

I'm with the band. Shipped from gamefly today.

So I picked it up and have been playing for the past couple of hours. Overall I can't be disappointed. It's everything I expected it to be. I must say though, the difficulty leaps from tier 6 to tier 7/8. I had no problems up until then, but hit a wall at tier 8.

What's your opinion on the boss battles?

Just signed up to the Rokkers with Jobs group on guitarhero.com

PlayerH8 which is also my Live ID.

Now I will spend the next few hours beating the game on medium.

Groupies for all!

It's sitting on my desk right now, while I'm at work. I really really need to get to a point where I can justify taking a break soon.

They're kind of gimmicky for me, but YMMV. I can live with it but wouldn't have complained if they didn't include it with the game.

Has anyone else had trouble linking their 360 account to their guitarhero.com page? I've checked and double-checked the code I get from my 360 for the link account and I've entered it a dozen times and every time I get an invalid code error. Not a big deal, but it's annoying.

Have you played any songs yet? I had a hard time when I first tried, but I hadnt played a song yet. I went and played a few, came back, and entered it ok. Other folks I know had the same problem.

I pressed the join button in the Rokkers with jobs group on guitarhero.com, so please accept me into the club =) I won't be getting the game until september 23rd though :S

Woah. Wal-Mart versions of GH3 might not include the new controller. The box tells you what you're getting, but strange nonetheless. This affects the 360 versions, too.

PS - Chiggie, great new avatar. GH3 has reminded me of my love for Slash. We're gonna play a lot of G'N'R Live concerts at the Austin S&T.

I tried before and after playing songs and still no go. After checking the GH3 forums, it appears I'm far from the only person having a problem. Looks like I'll just have to bide my time until they get the site working for everyone.

I wonder why they did this. Is it less expensive with the "classic" guitar?

Yeah, I think it's supposed to be like $10 less.

Yeah I just tried a bunch of times. I can't link my accounts either. Oh well, everybody will just have to trust me when I say that I rock.

I'm still hit or miss on hard but I'm having a lot of fun with this so far.

Oh, and Lay Down is good. It hurts my hand, but, it is so good.

Best song in the demo by far.

I can sum up my impression of the guitar battle in three words: We Todd Did.

"I wanna rock'n'roll all night" is a culmination of everything that is wrong about humanity. In the sum of all human works, I'm pretty sure that song effectively cancels out Bach.

Does anyone else see Chiggie's avatar as a Gorilla rocking out?

I was down at Best Buy 15-20min after it opened at 11am this morning and my Highly Scientific Extremely Accurate Survey of Buyers shows it was mostly PS2 versions going out the door (360 for me). I only saw one poor sap with the PS3 version, the Wii pallet appeared untouched. It will be interesting to see the October NPD numbers for GH3 by platform.

I can't say I care for the new leader board interface, I don't see why I need to press several buttons just to see my damn career score rank. I also don't see any way to tell how many scores are in a section? For example, my rank might be 100th, 100th out of what? 110? well then I suck. If it's 100 out of 1,000,000? Then clearly I Rock. I do like that they've broken it out by skill level as well as cumulative career score.

Just to be a dork, I played through on Easy... First song actually had a chord and a hammer on. Based on the rest of the career mode, I think I'll have to keep training new recruits using GH2 to avoid too much immediate frustration.

Anyone else noticed the fret sort of stumble and then lurch forward on some songs when you trigger star power? It's almost like it can't keep up, probably needs more drunken camera pans, fans in the crowd, blinky lights and special effects...

Boss battles were a mildly interesting diversion I guess. I can't believe Slash has so much problems playing at medium. I kind of suspect they'll move towards annoying as I work up the skill levels.

You guys are way to good!
