Star Trek 2009 movie Catch-All (Now on DVD/Blu-Ray and sequel rumors)

I'm not calling you a liar, but are you sure Transformers had those?

Ba-doom-shh.

Well, not to start a fight, but Michael Bay never met a script he couldn't ruin by his directing style. He could make a bad film out of something Paul Haggis wrote.

Actually, Picard is French--Patrick Stewart is English.

Now, that was my reaction! Surely such a soleless mix of CGI and product placement was constructed by some sort of unholy AI experiment. Yet the article above clearly said "scripters."

color me baffled.

Now we have a Sulu. Still no captain, though.

I saw the name Cho and thought, "Margaret Cho's going to play Sulu? How the hell are they gonna rationalize that?"

How silly of me.

And I'm still hoping for Gary Sinise as McCoy. That'd be genius casting right there, fellas.

They should have a Black actor play Kirk just to rile up all the nerds.

When someone said it was the guy from "Harold & Kumar," I thought "wow, that indian guy Kal Penn sure is an odd choice for Mr. Sulu..."

Yes. Yes it would be. That would be awesome casting.

That guy Chris Pine has been cast as Captain Kirk. Yeah, sure, if you say so, J.J.

They could've done much worse.

Hard to tell, since his filmography looks so thin. There's just something about giving such a big part in one of the biggest remakes of the year to an unknown that leaves a funky taste in the mouth.

Yeah I agree. It all depends on what type of guy this is, hopefully he's a big Trek fan and knows his part. Im real worried about the casting of McCoy... they're saying Karl Urban, I like the guy enough, but that is not our doctor!!

Look at this way: did anyone have high expectations of Hugh Jackman, having done mostly musicals and television, before the first X-Men movie?

Maybe so. I was judging on looks alone.

I'm so shallow

Giving it to a relative unknown is a good thing. Kirk will be hard enough to play without the audience saying 'It's not Kirk it's actually [insert name] from [insert series/film/informercial/porno]'.

I don't actually know how you'd play Kirk. The character has become a pastiche; it'll be hard taking him from a normal guy into the c*cksure captain with irregular cadence.

It's official. Chris Pine has signed as Kirk and Karl Urban is Dr. McCoy.

Pine looks perfect, physically.
Urban is a bit tall, isn't he? Or was in wearing lifts as Eomer?

I can't wait to see Bones hurl a spear through an Denebian Elephant rider.

And here I was thinking the first Karl Urban joke would be about Bones wielding a BFG 9000.

I think I blocked that movie out of my memory.

Followed by, "Dammit, Jim, I'm a Doctor, not a special ops marine!"

Damn. I was so hoping for Gary Sinise. Well, guess I won't be seeing this one either.

You have to realise the context here. As an Englishman, it's slightly galling (no pun intended) that Picard is French. His manner is prototypically English.

I like all the casting except Cho and Urban. Hope they can prove me wrong.

You have to understand that many North Americans don't see countries in Europe, we see Europe as a country. It's stupid, but its also part of the reason why any European man can bang any female student studying abroad with minimal effort. Take it or leave it.

I thought Stewart was a Scot. I'm going to assert that Yorkshire is close enough to count as Scotland. That should make folks happy with me!

I really don't know what to think about the casting news. As a diehard Trek fan I have kind of lost faith in this project. Now maybe there's a chance they can reinvent the original series with fresh faces and new stories that aren't retreads of Wrath of Khan or previous episodes but these casting choices almost look like they are setting us up for a Lost In Space / Starsky&Hutch / Dukes Of Hazard style movie where they sacrificed the soul of the creation to just try and get a theatrical franchise launched (or in this case, relaunched).

Trek's needed a reboot for a long time (since Rick Berman plowed the franchise into the ground with his inept leadership) but going back to the beginning of the Kirk/Spock/McCoy era might have been something better left to the book authors.

I just assume Picard was a Frenchman raised in England. It keeps me sane.

Or just assume that when everyone started speaking English, the British culture naturally took over France, because they're close and have more interaction.

You know, kind of like how everyone in Europe learns English with a kind of British accent -- and how everyone in the States learns Mexican swears instead of Spanish ones.
