Let's talk anime.

I find this version of GTA infinitely more entertaining than the original. Now if we could just get other anime characters in there. Perhaps the cast of Cowboy Bebop or EVA team. Dirty Pair?

I loved Last Exile. Fantastic series. Wanted to say thanks for everybody who recommended it to me.

Going to try Lucky Star next.

If you liked "Last Exile" I suspect you'd like "The Place Promised in our Early Days" as well.

Finished up Lovely Complex this afternoon, and Lucky Star the other day. Pretty solid all around, plenty of funny. Also started up the latest Gundam series, and it appears to be pretty good, although time will tell.

Currently making my way through Ergo Proxy. Good stuff!

I really liked Ergo Proxy. Very surreal, full of style & substance.

ARISE!

So, what's everybody watching, assuming someone else is taking time from their busy (gaming) schedule to watch anime?

New shows / quick notes (in no particular order):

Bamboo Blade - Teacher / kendo club instructor wants to rebuild kendo club with a strong female team to win a bet? Enjoyable yet middle of the road so far.

Ghost Hound - New Production IG project. Great use of sound and visuals. The show looks like it's going to be a very slow and psychological type of series. Really reminds me of shades of Lain and Texhnolyze. Not going to be for everyone, but I'm liking it.

Minami-ke - The new slice o' life comedy centering on three sisters. Highly recommended, especially if the genre has worked for you in the past. The pacing has been great, and the slight quarks in the character designs (IMHO) make a difference.

Gundam 00 - The new Gundam series. In all honesty, this one might be good, but I just can't get myself to sit through another mecha series at the moment. Just can't.

Night Wizard - School + Fantasy Magic + Comedy = Average-ville for this series so far.

Rental Magica - The other notable magic related show. Just a little darker in tone than Night Wizard and better for it too.

Shakugan no Shana - Season 2 - Woot! I didn't know they were making another season. Fans rejoice. Non-fans disregard.

You're Under Arrest - Full Throttle - A new season of YUA?! The opening pair of episodes kind of got my hopes up that they'd try doing longer stories, but so far it's been episodic ever since. That said, YUA has always worked pretty well on an episodic basis.

Shion no Ou - Traumatized young girl breaks into the world of professional Shogi playing while confronting the demons of her past? Been more fun to watch then I initially thought it would be, in spite of the high premise-oddity factor.

Prism Ark - Another fantasy rpg flavored show. Early episodes looked interesting, but subsequent episodes leave me with a 'meh' feeling. Anime cliche warning flags activated.

(edit for formating)

Or, to boil things down, watch Minami-ke.

Currently in my anime club we're watching Noein and we started Darker than Black today. This'll be my third year watching the former, and first time watching the latter. Any opinions on Darker than Black?

We'll be starting with Last Exile after the new year and hopefully by then we'll have more Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggen. The group really enjoyed that and are sad that there have only been 18 episodes fansubbed so far.

I havent seen a single episode of anime since my last post many months ago. Nothing has stood out for me to watch.

The ones I'm currently watching:

Ghost Hound- So far the one I'm enjoying the most. It's slow paced but seems to be the most well done. Besides I'm more into the darker psychological ones these days.

Shakugan no Shana Second- Although I found the first one reasonably good I can hardly stand this one so far. Nothing story related has happened yet and its all superficial relation stuff that also isn't really going anywhere...

Shion no Ou- This ones kind of middle of the road but its been entertaining so far. Can't say I'm a big fan of all the shougi parts though.

I've also given You're under arrest, Minami-ke and Gundum 00 a try but couldn't keep any interest in them, although I may have to give minami-ke another shot.

Now that I think of it I also have about four episodes of Noein left to watch. I also enjoyed Darker than Black quite a bit although it kinda ended abruptly.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan is one I also watched recently and it was one huge breath of fresh air. And it is all fansubbed just not all by the same group.

Does Grenadier get better? I rented the first DVD with the first 3 eps. It's... okay. Does it go anywhere?

I finished Nodame Cantabile a couple of weeks ago. Liked it so much that I'm actually watching (and enjoying) the live action.

I've tried to start His and Her Circumstances twice now. Once in Japanese/English sub and another in English. I can't seem to get into it.

Other than that. Nothing on my plate right now. After the semester's over I should have time to catchup with the stuff I have on my ToWatch list.

Well if I remember correclty that one was more about bouncing Oogaba than anything else, not sure if that counts as going anywhere though I know I still finished it

Yes, the bouncing oogaba is hard to ignore.

Stone, you of all people might appreciate the Gun Katas ending in the last episode. Its a killer fight, but the oogaba... There's just so much of it, its completely distracting. Regardless, it gets more serious towards the end, especially in the last 3 or 4 eps. I say just finish it, there's only 12 episodes total.

Thanks, Grenn.

I have to admit, the only reason I rented the series was because I saw an animated gif of her bouncing ammo out of her cleavage for a reload.

Now I'm interested!

Yeah, I bet you are.

I should probably get the rest of Tengen then. The club actually really enjoyed Lucky Star, and today we watched Chrno Crusade, which is one we watched last year and shall show again until winter break. Anything you guys think my club might enjoy?

Just out of curiosity, what was so bad about it?

I just finished watching it after putting it off for a while - I'll admit it didn't have that certain something that the series itself (and the manga) touches for me but it came pretty close.

Maybe I just love the Major too much.

But thanks for inspiring me to sit down and watch it through.

I haven't really watched much anime. I used to watch Gundam Wing and a little Dragon Ball, and I recently went through a short lived Naruto phase. Needless to say, I'm way behind. I just finished watching the first episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion and I really enjoyed it. Too bad I'm leaving for Vegas tomorrow because I'm already hooked. On to episode 2.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a great series. Prepare yourself for fun-filled family adventure that's sure to keep you feeling good about yourself for months after you watch the last episode. Be sure to watch Cowboy Bebop. If you like that style, then watch Samurai Champloo.

Nadesico is well worth watching also, and a bit more of a fun series than Evangelion

HA! Thanks for the good belly laugh, Grenn. Great series of course, but just, man I can't stop laughing.

I can't say I liked the SAC:SSS movie very much either. Certainly not as much as the series anyways. The story felt forced and disjointed.

Concerning Minami-ke, I enjoy the heck of it, but it might have just struck a cord with me. To me it just feels slightly more mellow (while still having some hysterics) than AzuDai without suffering from the yon-koma style pacing that breaks the overall flow of shows like AzuDai and Lucky Star.

I somehow watched the last episode of Neon Genesis out of order. I somehow skipped from episode 20 right to episode 26. I still have to watch 21-25, but way to end a series. I'm actually feeling a bit confused now.

Don't forget, there are two NGE movies Death and Rebirth half-way rehashes the last episode and then continues the story a bit. The End of Evangelion, well, it isn't just a clever name.

Eva is good, but I never found it as earth shattering as some folks do. Ah well. As for what's on my plate...

Rental Magica - in the queue
Gundam 00 - I will never pass up more Gundam.
Clannad - It's KyoAni+Key.
Hayate no Gotoku - Combat Butler Battle Story. Mocks much other pop culture.
Genshiken 2 - More from your favorite Otakus
Shakugan no Shana 2 - I've been waiting on this for a while, but it's currently in the queue also.

Lastly, yes.. Grenadier is really just an excuse for guns and Oogaba.

After finishing Neon Genesis I had to read up on it via Wikipedia to find out what the hell was happening in the last two episodes. Apparently the movies explain what is happening but I have yet to buy them. Since then I've had time to go back and watch a few movies and got around to starting Cowboy Bebop.

Under my belt:
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Samurai X (movie)
Akira
Spriggan (excellent animation)

Working on:
Cowboy Bebop
Gundam Wing

Last Exile, Naruto Shippuden, and Kanon 2006 have been my sins lately. It's quite a combo.

I've got .hack, Lucky Star, Hunter X Hunter and a whole list of other stuff on tap. And the girls are after me to watch Marchen Awakens Romance. Not happening today, though. And tomorrow isn't looking all that hot either.

Anyone know anything about Gunslinger Girl and Speedgrapher? I saw them in the video store and I was wondering.

Gunslinger Girl - A beautiful series, but some people might find it difficult to watch. It follows the rather tragic lives of little girls that have been turned into assassins, but does an excellent job of showing the human side of the girls.

I can't speak about Speedgrapher, as I personally haven't watched it. It's art style and darker (looking) tone make it look interesting at the very least.
