There's your new Kirk, in my most humble opinion. If he unhinges his jaw, I bet he could swallow a whole planet.

If he can swallow a whole planet then Kyra Sedgwick must be capable of swallowing a sun.

Oh and in the case Steven Tyler has them all beat in swallowing entire solar systems.

Quinto as Spock. So lets see... attempt to make eyes more oriental looking which will probably make him look like a man dressed like a geisha. They will have to use some kind of NASA developed base makeup to cover up the permanent grey tint of his facial hair. I would have to see him in costume and makeup before I could really give Quinto a fair shake.

As for Kirk.. hmm. I think he should be easier to find someone young to portray him. Now all they need is the cocky, impatient, cowboy, womanizer attitude that Kirk had.

All they need is a cameo of Picard's great great grandfather in the Academy along with Kirk with his either French or British accent.

Picard is English. The accent overrides the plot.

So I have spoken, so it shall be.

Indeed. You see Picard's grandfather moved to England at some point and hence Picard's father and himself were actually born and raised in England. Hence the English accent. Though you know there probably is some fansite somewhere that actually has his lineage and details like this listed.

Edit add: See I wasn't all that far off about the fansite thing.

Behold the explanation.

Despite Picard having been born in France, he had a distinct British accent. In the 24th century, French was considered an archaic language, (TNG: "Code of Honor") but Picard may have spoken French with his family during childhood and he still remembered French children's songs like "Frère Jacques". (TNG: "Disaster") He also occasionally cursed "merde" in times of stress, such as in "The Last Outpost" and "Elementary, Dear Data".

If his jaw's that big, then maybe he should audition for this.

Only 300 more years...

I can't believe anyone is debating who should be Kirk. It's not like Shatner is Olivier or even Samuel L "effing" Jackson. We are talking about TJ Hooker here.

Shatner is awesome. Proof.

Well, here's the cast sheet for the leads save Spock. Check out Uhura's:

[UHURA] 25ish -African American. Brilliant, beautiful, heroic and FUN!, Uhura is almost tom-boyish - as if she grew up in a house full of brothers.

Holy double entendre, Batman!

Too funny!

The responses on that "news" item range from "good idea" to "OMFG, are people really that geeky?"

I kinda like the idea of Rosario Dawson for Uhura that was floated in that thread.

Helloooo, Mr. Checkov.

grunberg could be the missing link between skinny scotty on lard arse scotty. prequel scotty needs to be a skinny fellow whereas grunberg is just tubby scotty

Can he tell us where the nuclear wessels are?

Latest news: "Hulk" and "Munich" star Eric Bana cast as film's villain.

"Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeroooooooooooooooooooo!"

We have 11 Romulan names, each one of them had a hand in planning whale extinction. We want them all dead.

I love Eric Bana, and I think he's gonna make a great Romulan villian, very excited about this movie.

This guy might be the new Kirk. Looks a bit young, don't you think?

possibly in scenes taking place some time after Kirk's death in Star Trek Generations

Kirk died? no way.

No one really dies in a universe where time travel is possible.

Or where the actor of said character goes on to write novels bringing character miraculously back to life.

Rumor: "Sean of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" actor Simon Pegg has possibly been cast as Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott. This after Stargate Atlantis actor Paul McGillion had auditioned and was rumored to be in the running for the role.

Wow, at first I thought "I love Simon Pegg! But he's not Scotty!" but you know what, I can see it working now. Im a little more concerned about the Harold and Kumar guy as Sulu.

According to the beeb Pegg's agent has confirmed that he's been offered the role. Given that he worked with Abrams on MI:3 I suppose it's not that outlandish. I wonder if they'll dye his hair black. I recall he did a pretty good Scottish accents on both Big Train and Dr Terror's House of Horrible many moons ago. I guess Cornettos will finally appear on the Enterprise's dessert trolley, though it may increase the instances of fatal brain freezes among the redshirts.

The cast so far is the stuff of fanfic writers' wet dreams. This is either going to be the greatest or the most ridiculous movie ever made.

Now we have a Sulu. Still no captain, though.

Edit: Or a McCoy. Or a Fleet Captain Pike. Or Ma and Pa Kirk, according to a few reports.

The fact that this movie is being written by the Transformers "scripters" puts it right to the bottom of my "must see list."

McCoy: Dammit Jim, we can't do this without the Air Force!

This film is going to open with a hot Romulan female taking a shower or putting on stockings or something like that. Mark my words.

This will be Hollywood's interpretation of "we need to infuse new life into Star Trek".
