My problem with this game is that I started playing WoW (first MMO ever for me) a few weeks back.

And that's the sad part. Why can't they do more games like this for the DS?
This has ALWAYS been the problem with Nintendo's systems... very few games, other than the standard first party franchises, are "A+" level titles. Anyone read that article about Nintendo "quality" control in the last issue of EGM? Granted, EGM is no symbol of quality either, but it may answer your question about why so many games are crap.
The nature of Nintendo's quality control revealed itself to me when I bought a GBA version of Wolfenstein 3D, with "Nintendo's Seal of Approval" which ran on an average of 7fps, being practically unplayable as result.
About 3-4 times slower than Doom2 for GBA.
All three of the mini-games are damn tough, to be honest. I think I ended up just barely getting over the cannon game hump, was a few milliseconds under the race time, and I actually got a 1700 exactly on the archery one.
It scares me a little that you guys are calling it Zelda Lite. I always felt that the Zelda series were already an RPG lite. Doesn't this just make it just a hack and slash action game? I was never too enthusiastic about the Castlevania series because I felt they were too "lite".
Don't let it bother you too much; even though a few things have been simplified (such as what I pointed out in my earlier post about item use), the game is still ridiculously good fun, and you won't regret playing it.

I don't think I'd call it "ridiculously good," personally-- it's PRETTY fun. I just got the boomerang, which is cool, but the fact you have to tap the icon every time you want to use it gets somewhat annoying (maybe I'm just doing it wrong). One thing to note if you're planning to travel with it-- the game REQUIRES you to yell at the DS, and blow on it, to solve puzzles (among other things). You might draw a few awkward looks

Just hold either the L or R bumper and you'll equip your item.
Yeah, they explain holding L or R in a hint after playing for ~30 minutes more. My vote would have been to explain it at the time, but my vote didn't count.
I'm not sure I'd ever call Zelda an RPG lite, and this doesn't feel like Zelda lite to me either.
Zelda has some elements common to RPGs - upgradable weapons, equipment, and health, mainly - but it was always about exploring an overworld and puzzle solving in dungeons. It also dresses like many RPGs - swords, shields, faeries, monsters - but I don't think that makes it one either. Would you call Hexen an RPG? I wouldn't, if that clarifies where I'm coming from.

This does not bode well for gaming on the porcelain throne
it sort of annoys me, because other DS games like PHOENIX WRIGHT give you the OPTION of yelling "objection!" like a moron, or just pushing a button
Anyone have any tips on how to do the fishing minigame?
I don't have any problems catching fish once I'm in the game, it's starting the game that's a pain.
I find the fish on the map, navigate over them, click the fish icon, start reeling in the line, then as soon as the fish touches the hook the game ends. I've successfully started the actual game part of it twice I think. What am I doing wrong?
Ok, I guess if I to clarify more, I would call it an Action, Adventure, RPG lite. I would put Secret of Mana in the same category. It's not a black and white line so call it what you will. To word it another way, I enjoy many of the RPG elements of Zelda and if too many were removed It would loose some of it's magic.
As for Hexen, I only played Heretic, so I couldn't comment. I don't remember being able to upgrade weapons / items in Heretic but it has been so long so I may be wrong. I did feel Bioshock had some RPG components though.

You can sidestep the yelling issue by tapping/scratching the DS near the mic. It will register as the loudest holler level if you do it right (and the guy in the stall next to you won't hear anything... )
I put another few hours into the game yesterday, and I have to say that while IN GENERAL, the stylus controls work pretty well, they're crap when it comes to the boss battles. Well, fine, maybe not CRAP, but I definitely feel that I'd be much more in control with the standard d-pad-- not only does the stylus/my hand obscure the screen, but it just feels somewhat floaty when you're being chased down by a giant-ass crab.

Now just get 2000.
It took me about 400 rupees worth of attempts to get it - I had to have a near-perfect run. One little girl hit, and you're too far behind to make up ground.
My willpower is being eroded quickly. Every time I go into a game store I'm tempted to pick up a used DS and this game. Especially knowing that FFTA2 is on the horizon and Fire Emblem is out next year.
The intro for this game is long and unskippable. You can't even fast-forward through it. There should be some kind of physical punishment that is administered to any development team that gets away with that. Especially on a PORTABLE.
That aside, I kinda like the game so far.

Press Start and >>>SKIP appears in the upper right. Then you can skip them.

thank god I figured that out after the umpteenth time they play that damn "saaaavve meeeeee!" clip when you load your saved game.
Anyone have this or Spirit tracks just sitting around they want to sell to a fellow GWJer? My son recently got obsessed with Zelda and I am trying to buy the games we don't have.
I think I still have my copy of PH. Will check when I get home, but shipping from Canada may be expensive
