If you're trying to pick just one game to play this week, you're going to have a bad time. For some reason it hasn't really felt like the fall gaming season to me yet. There have been little hints of it here and there, but overall it's all still felt more anticipatory than anything else. This week is the first where it's felt like faucet was truly open to full, and that the deluge had begun.

If you forced me to choose just one game this week, then I'd put my money down on X-Com. A modern remake by Firaxis of a PC Microprose classic. This must be what it's like to be a fish biting on the hook, because that bait is just far too tempting. All the better that the initial buzz has been so positive, and that by all accounts Firaxis managed to get a good handle on what made the original so great. Tuesday after work can't come fast enough.

That game would be the story of my entire week, had Dishonored not come in to apparently live up to its lofty expectations as well. After watching Shawn play for the first part of our new video series, I can already tell that the urge to play Dishonored for myself will be an agonizing tension against my precious and long-awaited X-Com time.

At any given moment, there will be a war waged along the shattered remnants of my broken willpower. All the while, games like Borderlands 2, Torchlight 2 and Mists of Pandaria begging me back to finish what I started.

Also this week, Fable: The Journey quietly takes its place on the 360 and a new version of Worms hits.

Naughty Bear was robbed!

Edit: I'm honestly shocked Retro City Rampage is finally coming out.

XCOM WOOOOOOOO!!

Likewise, Code of Princess looks like a great 2D brawler/RPG for the 3DS. It's a good week for gaming.

Man, I'd love to pre-order Dishonored, but with their copy/paste system specs I'm not sure my GTX 285 GPU will run it.

Eh, I'll be entertained by XCOM for while so I can wait on Dishonored I suppose.

Dishonored looks pretty sweet, and if I was willing to drop $60 on a new game this holiday season it would get my cash.

I'll instead have to wait until the price has dropped to something a bit more palatable.

Grrr...Never have I been more annoyed by the whole 'friday release date in the UK' thing than I do this week. Made all the worse by the fact Xcom and Dishonoured are sitting on the harddrive just taunting me from within...

I'd say it looks like a great DD brawler!

(actually it does look pretty interesting...probably not one for playing on the bus though )

I'm really liking Resident Evil 6. It's really, really fun to play co-op. I don't know why the review scores are low, it's my favorite in the series (and I am by no means a fan). The chapter I'm in has scenes in reference to populair zombie movies like Shaun of the Dead and 28 Days Later and I'm even starting to feel like it's taking a lof of cues from Left 4 Dead. They finally implemented a fun hand to hand combat system (borderline wrestling sometimes).

Anyways this week I'll probably grab Dishonored and XCOM. They both look awesome.

I think we have our answer.

My poor wallet is crying out in agony at that list...

That was at least the expressed intention, to broaden the appeal to Westerners outside the fan base. I almost universally hear bad things from friends in games and games writing, though.

And then there's Dishonored, which was ruined for me by that Cease Fire thing.

The game looks good. The marketing team looks stupid. I get not supporting the company as a result, but it does seem like a baby and bathwater situation.

Maybe the single player of RE6 is lacking, I bought it solely for co-op so I wouldn't know. But the complaints people have have got to be like complaining that there's no more corpse running or some other über annoying chore you had to go through in MMOs that are absent from modern games. The Resident Evil series kept being a pain in the ass for so long. I mean the aiming, the inventory, etc. All of that was so damn annyong*. It's not called survival horror because it should be painful, dense and punishing. As far as I'm concerned it's a step in the right direction and I recommend that you try it.

And regarding that Dishonored thing, you remind me of a friend who didn't like Oasis because the Gallaghers are douche bags.

Me? I just enjoy the music.

*Hello.

I'll get RE6 eventually. I enjoyed the demo enough that I want to play through it. But there's a lot of negative reaction I've been seeing. In fact, a lot of people that went and bought it are discussing trading it in.

This is why I wish people were aware of how the industry views sales numbers, because Capcom can't see that you're trading it in. Only that you bought it.

*Hello.

Many say the same about Wordy. Except with words instead of music, and our website instead of the international rock stage.

He's probably not a douche bag, either.

Maybe.

Psst, Sony....XCom on the Vita would make me buy at least 1 Vita...Just saying...

No love for Just Dance 4?

Happily (sadly? ) I'm too busy with Borderlands and Torchlight still to even think about buying X-COM or Dishonored. My guess is I'll pick them up on one of the Steam holiday sales, depending on the pile size.

Nothing to see here. Go on your day.

After work I'm picking up my preorders of Dishonored and XCOM. I cannot remember when I last picked up two brand new games on the same day. Like Sean, I still have a lot on my plate. No more no more!

Oh no, The Walking Dead Episode 4 comes out this week!

MAÎTRE D:
And finally, monsieur, a wafer-thin mint.
MR. CREOSOTE:
Nah.
MAÎTRE D:
Oh, sir, it's only a tiny, little, thin one.

I realize that I'm eccentric about it, the Cease Fire program is just really close to home for me (it's in my town, sometimes in my old neighborhood, and we've recently passed 400 killings this year). The game's been linked with something that's a major focus of my attention, and I don't feel I'll be able to see past it. I don't have a lot of time to play games while I'm taking night classes, anyway, so not playing one game isn't a huge loss for me.

Takes one to know one.

I'm just the bag. Q is that other thing.

Next day XCOM from Amazon (ordered over the weekend, Amazon Prime, next day is $3 why not?).

Shipped to work... waited all day. Left work at 4pm... shows up at 5pm. NEXT DAY obviously means ANY TIME DURING THE BLOODY DAY, just not before you go home...

Retro City Rampage is fantastic

So, as someone who only gets a couple of hours a week maximum on my 360, and occasionally get pulled away for a week or two, so no gaming, would I be better served by picking up XCOM or Dishonoured?

:(

A lot of deliveries were way late yesterday. I suppose they're dealing with backlogs of things not delivered on Sunday.

Wow, I get the Atlus newsletter, but I just assumed Code of Princess was just, um, well, let's just say I don't like everything by Atlus.

OTOH, I just downloaded this little game called Dungeon Fighter Online through Steam a couple of weeks ago, so, really it's just terrible timing on Atlus's part, obviously.

Then again, I just watched Murder Princess a couple of weeks ago too, so the urge to be a blonde, sword-waving Princess battling monsters is mighty strong. It's a good anime.

Still, a second game for my 3DS would be nice! (and that wasn't a joke)

Also can't wait to try Retro City Rampage.

This week's turning out to be a disaster for my wallet. So far I bought:

- Dishonored PC
- XCOM PC (the sweeeeet Special Edition physical copy, weighs a pound at least!)
- Code of Princess
- Retro City Rampage

This week also saw the release of plenty of good movies so I got these:

- E.T.
- Shut Up and Play the Hits
- Prometheus

Ramens for the rest of the week
