Who's laughing now?

So odd seeing the dollar this close. I think it'll probably be 1.00=1.00 today.

Let's hope this will finally even out the pricing differences between consumer goods with our neighbours to the south!

Dammit. There goes my cheap PSB speakers.

Yeah, with your market not really catching up with the economy yet, I'd say that we're still laughing now.

Until we try to go to Europe. Then they are laughing now.

We are edging closer to the declaration of one North American Union.

Can't you see this for what it is... unified currency.

It will be tough for mexico though, when they announce that peso is synonymous with dime.

And you thought Bush's legacy was Iraq.. ha! He's been planning this all along.

I always try and use Fast food chains as the rough estimator of where our purchasing power is. Lots of Economic texts actually make mention of the cost of a Big mac around the world. Double Cheeseburger, and Jr Bacon's are still priced at $1.49 in Canada last I checked.

Well, for starters, the Dollar Menu isn't always a dollar down here either. Also remember that prices take time to reflect currency values.

Above all, keep in mind that these items can be used as loss leaders, and have significant amounts of public advertising, making price shifting difficult.

I would guess ours will hit $1.49 before Canada's hit $0.99.

If only, then she probably wouldn't have the kid on her back.

Is this the "Canadian Invasion" we've been warned about?

Well, that's the trigger for Canada Invasion Plan Epsilon. My fellow Americans, please head to your bomb shelters. This should all be over in a couple hours. IMAGE(http://rps.net/QS/Images/Smilies/m1helmet.gif)

right but its not like the CDN and USD ratio has just suddenly moved its been slowly edging its way for over a year now. Also it might not move at all theres many more factors at play. Canadian minimum wage, I think they both use Canadian beef and that thing called taxes. I'm kinda more interested in the Purchasing Parity which kind of takes these into account and says "You pay more for a big mac because, The people who serve you make more, more expensive beef is used blah blah blah."

What will be interesting is products in certain other markets. For example it might start looking very profitable for me to spend a weekend in NY state and hit up some outlet malls, and a IHOP

At the beginning of 2003 it was $1 CAD = $0.63610 USD. Life is good for the importers, but I've no idea how exporters have dealt with such a rapid currency appreciation in the last 4.5years.

I get paid in USD so I'm getting more and more emo every day

Good news is Californian wine is much cheaper!

Well, one of the main reasons our dollar is so close to your's is that your balooning deficeit, irresponsible spending and failed military initiatives are rapidly sinking your economy. Even if you invaded, you'd have maxed out your credit before too long.

Oh! That's a baby! I always that was her Kuato.

Well played, sir.

Plus, we'd be repelled by the Royal Canadian Mounted Moose Cavalry. We can't compete with that.

It's too expensive now. We're going to have to wait for Canadian companies to start moving their factories south of the border to take advantage of our ever lower wages. That's right, Canada. We're going to do to you what Mexico did to us. AMF!

Naw, we only pull our elites out for the big trouble makers. You guys, we'd just serve you some real beer and drink you under the table.

HA! That's beauty. Take that you hosers.

I, for one, welcome our new Canadian overlords.

Just kidding. I think our first step after the take over would be to nationalize Whiskey's in Toronto. I can't think of much else after that.

I was thinking that exact thing. Although, with the housing market keeping interest rates in limbo, I'm thinking that our forthcoming inflation will make the outlet mall stop unnecessary. You can just go pick up that "cheap American made" good at your local Wal-Mart (if you didn't try to unionize it).

Trachalio said:

I believe our European friends would have a thing or two to say about your supposed "real beer".

Besides, real men drink whiskey. Don't even try to tell me you have Kentucky beat on that front.

Somebody go get Gumbie, we're going to take the fight to them!

The Canadian dollar just hit 1 US dollar.

Our time for glory has arrived!

Truly, the USD is now the new peso.
