Team Fortress 2 Catch All

I've been playing since I got home this morning. The best way I can describe the game is controlled chaos. I've been enjoying playing the demoman (a black scottsman...love it!), blowing sh*t up and breaking bottles over players' heads.

I think I overdid it a little...the right side of my head hurts. Think I'll rest for a few minutes...

If we could tweak our server settings to remove the time limit and sudden death I think we will be golden.

I love sudden death. I don't love endless games. A server option would be good though.

This game simply ROCKS. Haven't had this much fun in a multiplayer action game in years. Unfortunately, it has come to my attention that some people have warped, misplaced priorities. It may be time for a coup d'etat:

Per round voting like Red Orchestra would be the sweet spot.

I'll be on in about 2 hours...someone please hit me with invite ASAP! I've been dying to play this all day. Also, what's the plan with GWJ servers? Are we going to have dedicated hosts?

Shame on you, beardy man! Shame on you!

I don't know, I don't like turning players into server admins. Giving players too many options and not putting a foot down and doing what's best for the gameplay is what ruined the GR:AW games for me (in terms of adversarial multiplayer).

But I suppose a simple either/or vote between the two well-established, balanced options would work fine.

Between this and Lumines...

Anyway, since purchasing w/o HL2 is financially out of the question, and this is cheaper than the 360 version, I picked this up. Not sure if it'll run on my laptop, but it's performance will certainly motivate me to figure out what to replace in my desktop.

He's going to blame it on his son, just you watch.

All of that would be server side options. Turn voting on or off. So you can get best of both worlds.

I've played for 10 hours today

I think I need to do something else.

Yeah Thin_J, you play too much, I see you in every match I play!......wait...I guess I have a problem too...

Oh well, never has unemployment seemed to sweet

What's the deal with voice chat?

I've been to looking forward to playing again. When is the soonest we can get a GWJ game going?

I had a blast tonight - healing Darth while he was heavy weapons. I like the medic and HW dude. The spy is way overpowered IMHO. I also have a hard time playing him - I cant seem to disapear and then when i try to kill someone I cant. Those folks who have the spy down are deadly though.

OK, that makes sense.

... you talk and people hear you?

I'm sure you mean something else, but I don't know what. Voice chat's been a-OK for me.

They compress your speach so you don't get the distortion you usually get on Ventrilo when someone gets excited, that and the reverb they add means that it's actually really useful and not at all annoying from a technical point of view.

How do engineers get more metal to upgrade?

We really need dedicated hosts. Goodjers are spread out in too many rooms...

I've found cases of metal lying around. I think you can get it from the spawn room lockers too.

Also, I hate spies.

It's Good. It's Real Good.

Sudden Death sucks, especially if your team was winning. Not so much if your team was losing. I think that's where opinions will vary. Sometimes the offense is just too damn good. You're holding on by the skin of your teeth, then you get rewarded with Sudden Death. Even the sides and go for one last push.

Engineers get more metal from picking up weapons, resupply stations, or the dispenser units they can build.

I'm still stinking to high heaven, but man am I having a blast with this. Good one, Valve!

I've been having a ball so far, my only niggle is I have twice been 'autobalanced' to the eventual losing team, within 10 seconds of a match concluding!

And yeah, a good spy is a very nasty thing. And smacking people in the head with a bone saw is immensely satisfying!

haha i love being a spy. every back stab i landed on rabbit was satisfying. Until at one point I was on his team and he didn't realize I was a spy on his team and TKd me.

The best thing I've found is to build the dispenser first, then build your sentry next to it. The dispensers give you health, ammo and metal or so it seems!

I have the server up. Server name is Stan's Lounge

ip: 65.99.246.104:27015

pw: goodger

I already have been notified that I need to change it to goodjer but I will do that tomorrow. Please jump in and play!

My meager day-one advice for engineers is if you are setting up to defend a position, always build a Dispenser first unless people are actually overrunning you. That Dispenser will spit out metal to power through your Turret building much faster, and everyone will thank you for giving them a place to heal and re-arm asap.

And another tip I learned today. If you are playing on a server with friendly fire turned off, shoot suspicious team members first and ask questions later. While we were holding the Flag room (sorry, "intelligence" room) today, me and 2 other engineers put on our own version of John Carpenters "The Thing" except instead of a hot wire into blood, we used shotgun blasts to the face to detect spies. Anytime a Teammate entered the room they got a little buckshot I.D. check just to be sure :).

Had a great time tonight.

So I'm having trouble remembering which color I am as each match switches me, so what class do I play? Demoman. 2 matches of team kills and I figure that's probably not the best class for me.

Heavy is great if the other team isn't expecting it.

But I found my class: Engineer. You can really help the team with some proper placements. Just need to learn the maps now.

You need to make it cycle maps. It's not.

I seem to be having a problem joining any games that are playing the dustbowl map. It'll say something to the effect of "your version is different than the server's". Has anyone else gotten anything similar and is there a way for me to reinstall TF2?

Edit: Found this on the STEAM forums. I'm just going to reinstall the whole game and see what happens.

I managed to do quite well as a meat shield...er...Heavy Weapons Guy. My reckless abandon for life works quite well when combined with a medic.
