Great DS. Bagga' I can pretty much play Saturday around 10am-Noon or so PDT. Or around 2pm-4pm. Not sure about the evening. Sunday is more an early morning time, say around 7am-10am. After that I'm unsure. Give me some times and I'll see if I can match you.NOTE: I forgot, I could play this afternoon. Say between 3-5pm PDT.

Let's go for tomorrow, 10 AM PDT (aka commie time). See you then!

"Weekly visit to the boards".

Slumberland, I can play tonight, tomorrow during the day sometime, Sunday, just let me know ahead of time what works for you.

Let's do tonight. I've gotta drive the wife-to-be to the airport, but I think anywhere from 8pm EST on is fine for me. What works for you?

Sounds good.

Slumberland, I'll be available all day tomorrow until 2pm PST. PM me or send me a Live message. I'll be checking.

Great game Bagga'. You have a awesome balanced attack. But Means is a mean so....yea, that:>) But it was a good game on both sides with some great plays. Really enjoyed it. AND ya whupped me even tho' you had a Gears and Bears hang-over. Talk about dedication!

Hey DS... looks like you were available Saturday and I was available Sunday. Let's try and get our peanut butter and chocolate mixed in the next couple nights. I'm sure it will be delicious. What's good for you?

I'll be around tonight after like 7pm PST. Just PM me here, send me a message on Live, whatever.

I pm'ed you on Sunday... did you get it? I just want to make sure it's working since I didn't get a response.

Still looking for my opponent...

I don't believe I did, actually.

Curiouser and curiouser! But good to know. I'll make sure to Live message as well.

Frankie' doesn't show up here much. But he usually play's RB6:LV Monday's and Tuesday's (he was on last night). If you drop him a line thru XBL, I'm sure he'll get back to you.

Kinda hard to schedule a match on live with someone when you have to actually hop on live and hope they're online to even get a hold of them...

Hate to sound like a jerk, but Live is actually quite useful in this capacity. You can logon to live.xbox.com and check your messages. This is what I do so I don't have to turn the XBox on every 30 minutes on a game day. This way I can keep a window open on my desktop/laptop, do other things and see if we're on for a game.

And again.. the majority of us tend to check here most often making it the best place to use for communication about the league.

You're the commish and all but something about people playing in the league but refusing to check the forum whose users the league was started for rubs me the wrong way.

Especially since some of us have full friends lists and are pretty much running dry on people we're willing to delete. Maybe I'm alone here, but I'm just throwing it out there.

I'll try to put the harsh tone aside and say this as diplomatically as possible. I think I've been a fair commish. I think I've been patient. I've reset the league a number of times to make sure everyone that wanted in got in. So I'm really confused about where attitude is coming from.

You're completely missing the point. Slumberland said he sent me messages on this site. I didn't get them. Not once have I said that live.xbox.com or the 2k online site should be the #1 way to communicate. In fact, I think I said that I felt (contrary to Donan's opinion) that this site should be the hub.... digs around...

From week 2 page 3...

DSGamer wrote:

It is kind of weird, though, to have 4 different ways to communicate...

Via XBox Live
Via the GWJ Forum for the league
Inside APF2k8 via the in game messaging, setting desired time to play the game, etc.
Via the APF2k8 online website

Donan's dexterity aside.. it would probably be a good idea if we all agreed on where we were sending messages primarily and thus where to look. By default I look here first, personally. Not sure what other people are doing.

I didn't dictate a thing. I simply said that if we're not getting through to each other via the site, there are other avenues of communication to try. Nothing more. I'm simply trying to offer an opinion on how we can make sure we don't pass each other in the night when something goes wrong with one of the ways to communicate.

If your opponent isn't checking here I fail to see the harm in trying to contact them through alternative means.

DS, I wasn't questioning anything you said nor was I trying to put words in your mouth. Hope that's not how that came off. I don't always word things the best way

I (and everyone else I'm sure) appreciate you starting up the league and getting things moving a lot. If you hadn't said what the hell and done it we'd all still be babbling about when we should have a league. Didn't say you dictated anything. Didn't intend to contradict you in any way. And for an explanation...

I'm very much a person of habit. I do things the same way, over and over, every time, every day. Saying "oh, this one week try using this instead of this" doesn't really ever work on my end. I'm not being stubborn, I just have an attention span of about three seconds. Someone will tell me to check something I don't normally check. I will write it down, I will make notes, I will read them the day they apply to, and I will still forget. It's just me.

Hence my constant "I prefer the site." thing.

No offense meant.

I prefer the site as well. Seriously, I go to two sites total on an average day. Google, and its myriad services (including Google Reader through which I digest much aggregated content), and here. Well, I guess it's up to 3 these days counting the GWJFFL site. Anyway, whether it be fantasy football, MMO guilds, or XBL matches, GWJ stuff has always been run through the forums. If you're going to participate in the/a league, at least check the single thread that's relevant to the group in which you are participating.

As for my particular match, I did as you suggested and fired up the 360 to go looking for frankie. As predicted, he was playing Vegas but was about to log off for the evening. He's busy tomorrow and suggested Thursday. I responded that I could play starting at 10:30 central on Thursday but did not receive a response. Personally, if you want to roll the league forward, go for it. Heck, you can even give him the win if it makes life easier.

You're trying, grumpicus. If frankie can't get together to play the game that's not your fault. I'll give it a day or two and roll it forward, you'd get the win. You've tried.

Once again, don't get me wrong, this site should be the place to come. And I would hope that everyone in this league is into the league enough to bother to check the site, setup their game, etc. Jayhawker obviously has a situation. Other than that Frankie seems to be the only one who is difficult to schedule. The league is rolling along still. Slower than I'd like and others might like, but we're almost into week, halfway to the playoffs. And we'll know by season 2 who is serious. I know I am.

Anyway, I understand everyone wanting to make this thread the focal point of communication. I was simply offering up alternatives if you can't connect with your opponent.

Take back what I just said about not wanting to be a dictator on the issue of getting your games in on time. I just looked at this thread's start date. Tomorrow will be one week. If I don't get word that you and frankie have figured out a time by tomorrow afternoon (say 4pm-ish EST) I'm going to award you the win, Grumpicus, and roll the league forward so we can stay on schedule. Let me know (since frankie doesn't frequent this site) if you guys are on for tomorrow. If not I'll roll it forward and everyone else can begin scheduling week 5.

Let me know (since frankie doesn't frequent this site) if you guys are on for tomorrow.

If I recall the voice message he left on XBL (since deleted) correctly, tomorrow night is his wife's birthday or something similar so I doubt we'll be playing. Still, I'll check again in the morning (time and memory constraints allowing) and see if he responded to my last message.

I did it! I did it!

I slowed down Earl Campbell.

I still lost. Slumberland plays very smart. But my scrappy team continues to rally behind my no-name quarterback and at least keep the games close.

I need that secret!:>) That O. Anderson. I had that dude for two games in a row to contend with and it wasn't pretty on either occasion *Chuckle*. I 'focus' and have a silver and bronze on the defensive line, but I'm just putty under his heal ...lol. Good job DS'. (oh, and btw, I really didn't have an 'opinion' about XBL as a 'the' contact point. I was just making folks aware of another way to get ahold of each other if one or more avenues aren't working. As you can see, I post here allot and certainly see this as the prime point of contact.)

DS

If you roll the week foward tonight, I'll probably be around if you wanna play.

Yes, DS had Campbell on lockdown, except for on screens! I only pulled it out because Campbell earned so much respect on screens that on a 3rd down late in the 4th with the game tied, DS pulled his linebacker over to cover Earl in the flat, leaving my slot receiver open for a slant. His defense is crazy good though... full of stars. Very good game.

I will be too. The question, then, is if we're rolling the league forward a week. I haven't heard anything about frankie's game getting played tomorrow. So I'm going to go grab lunch and when I come back, unless there are any objections, I'll probably roll the league forward a week.

DSGamer wrote:

Yeah, sorry about that. See? I warned you about those pesky time and memory constraints. I don't know if live.xbox.com shows voice messages or not but, as of right now, it's reporting that I have no messages whatsoever.

Edit: I just checked the online friends list and frankie is playing the Darkness Demo. Let me see if I can send him a quick text...

To Frankie, I wrote:

Did you get my last message? If you want to play tomorrow, it'll have to be after 10:30 central. I can also do tonight if your plans allow. Let me know what works ASAP (please) b/c the league is overdue to roll forward. Thanks.

Edit2: No response in however long (at least 20 minutes, probably more like 30) since I sent the message. Back to work I go. Sorry.

(I missed this until I came back here for reference from the week 5 thread.) Without getting into the GWJ.com vs. XBL debate that Thin_J and DSGamer already covered, this is why, when I was commish, I encouraged everyone to do all of their scheduling via the thread: there is a public record of your efforts to communicate with your opponent and schedule a game.

I think that's a fine point. Public record is an excellent point on why it's best to do it here. That's, in the end, why I credited you with the win and we rolled the league forward. You made an effort to play. I had no proof that your opponent did. And I think that's a fine way of looking at it. I guess where I'm coming from is that I'm being pragmatic and realizing that not everyone is on this site all the time. So if you keep missing each other it doesn't hurt to send them a Live message. But your point is well taken as is Thin J's, of course.
