Well $44 as a preorder on steam = about 55 or so dollars Australian. Given that a boxed new issue game will usually cost anywhere in the $75-90 range, thats remarkable value for money.

Steam's been really good to me too lately Goo. Civ 4 + BoTS for $56 is pretty damn good, considering it'd set you back about $140 retail

I didn't know the meet the engineer video was out. That's awesome.

I can't wait for the other class videos

TF2 could very well put a giant kabash to Halo 3's online dominance. I see it as the game of choice for some time, and will finally kill off Gears, if Halo 3 hasn't already.

I think there is a whole army of younger Halo diehards out there who haven't played TFC, don't have any nostalgic attachment to it, and simply won't notice its the TF2 release.

I never have played the TF games and i'm still excited about it coming out soon. But you're right, gorilla, there are a ton of halo die hards that are in that age range.. and they live in my student housing. ><

Yeah I think that's a gross overestimation of the popularity of TF as a whole.

I'd bet the total number of players on Halo 3's multiplayer completely dwarfs that of TF2.

I'm not sure how the numbers stack up, but 224,698 players played Halo 2 in the past 24 hours.

I'm still not sure which platform I'll buy this for. I've always played HL2 over Steam, but since I recently bought a 360 I find I have no desire to play games at my desk anymore...stupid question, but will 360 players and PC players be able to play together?

So, there's no beta or demo scheduled for the 360?

Why is no one talking about Peggle Extreme?! I don't know why everyone is so excited about this "Team Life" or "Portal Fortress" or whatever, when they should be focusing on Peggle.

I know you're being sarcastic but Peggle is freaking amazing.

I was sort of being sarcastic... but more about the fact that no one mentioned Peggle.

Peggle Extreme is pretty hilarious. It's regular Peggle, but with various Orange Box themed twists and graphics juxtaposed with the regular Peggle creatures. The title screen unicorn has an impaled headcrab on its face, for example.

No they won't.

Peggle only makes the package that much sweeter Been wanting to buy this for a while.

No they won't.

It's working in the Valve offices but then they would have to make it a Vista only title to get LIVE support.

Yeah, we'll see I guess.

Pre-loading TF2 now!

Damn, it's been quite a while and I can't wait to re-play this classic!

Can anyone clue me in about the Critical Shot system? From what I can gather it seems to be a catch-up function where some of your shots will be more damaging depending on your place on the scoreboard... That just sounds a bit weird to me.

I'd rather them not include HL2 and Ep1 in the Orange box so that price can be lowered.

You did check out the pricing of the individual games in there, right? HL2 and Ep1 are freebies with the Orange Box. Subtracting them would not lower the price.

Yeh, it works out very nicely. At this point I'd be happy to buy pretty much everything on Steam if it were available. I could spend the savings on.. beer.

Hey, but maybe taking the peggle out of the package would lower the price. Love that game.

Peggle is ridiculously addictive. Damn you PopCap games! I play enough Bookworm as it is. -_-

Either way, just purchased the Orange Box, Ep2, Portal, and TF2 alone are worth the 45... giving the others to a friend now. Nice option.

After shelling out $50 for JUST Two Worlds, which is virtually unplayable, $45 sounds like a deal.

It's $45 for the preorder, so I figure the pricing like this:

$30 for TF2 (totally worth it, I want this game desperately)
$15 for Ep2 (definitely worth that much, Ep1 was, what, $25?)
$0 for Portal -- it's a freebie.
Half-Life and Ep1 included, but since I already own them, that's useless.

So, I figure if I get five seconds out of Portal, I'm ahead. If I didn't preorder, I'd be required to enjoy it for an hour or two.

Edit: Oh, and I see I get this Peggle thing, too. Hmm. It's Popcap. Do I dare touch it? 'Just one little hit, the first one's free....'

Second edit: oh geeze, it's just a freaking demo. Slimy jerks. Blech.

Indeed. I wasn't aware official prices for each individual game had ever been announced.

I was surprised about that to, but I am a consumer whore so I will be buying the Orange package, I am just not sure if I want to through steam or wait till it's released at retail.

I can't seem to do that yet. Is there witchcraft involved?

There was some random link when I went to the purchase page with a happy little package with a bow. I don't really remember the process, I just did it as quickly as possible while working on tomorrow's (oh god, today's) lesson plans.

OK cool Demosthenes, thanks

Just looking round the steam pages I found this :

'When will I be able to give Orange Box gifts?

Orange Box gifts will be available to give when the Orange Box officially launches. If you pre-purchase the Orange Box and are eligible for the Orange Box gift, you will still have the gift, you will just have to wait until the release date of Orange Box to give the games to a friend. '

I musta missed whatever you clicked on but looks like it's all groovy and things will appear for me once the release is done.
