Team Fortress 2

Hmm if it is released 10/10/07 it could be bad.. my anniversary is coming up 10/16 :\ I have seen a few game play videos and man does it look SWEET!!!

All i can say is soo much for ET:QW

For anyone that might not have seen, there are a bunch of gameplay videos for TF2 on http://www.gamevideos.com/video/home

When I have my choice I go the PC route. I love The Darkness and RB6 Vegas (Xbox 360) and of course the Halo series, but if I get the choice - it is still the PC for me.

Steam news update says a big annoucement concerning TF2 is comming tomorrow (9-11).

"In other TF2 news, stay tuned for a pretty big announcement next week. You're going to want to hold off on planning any vacations until you hear what we've got to say on Tuesday."

Beta or demo yay.

If the argument as to which controls better, I think PC wins. But if the question is which format is more fun, the 360 wins once you get used to the controls. I gave up on Halo the first time, but went back a few months later and decided to just gut it out. Pretty soon it felt as natual as keyboard and mouse. No, not as accurate, but plenty of fun. Once Halo 2 hit, it was clear that this was now the most fun way to play shooters online. The party system is damn near perfect. Why Gears did not adopt it, I'll never understand.

TF2 could very well put a giant kabash to Halo 3's online dominance. I see it as the game of choice for some time, and will finally kill off Gears, if Halo 3 hasn't already.

A TF2 demo would be just what we need right now. Will Valve come through?!

Yeah, between this maybe demo, a Crysis demo and a Quake Wars demo I can seriously get some FPS satisfaction until the full games arrive. Please let it be open for all, and not another beta sign-up I will miss out on.

Here here. I cut my shooter teeth on Descent, Counterstrike and Day of Defeat. While a keyboard/mouse control works wonders, I no longer have the time or inclination to maintain a PC gaming rig. Give me a couch & TV, thank you.

While I'm looking forward to TF2, it shouldn't really try to compete with Halo 3. Halo 3 is going to be a mulitplayer juggernaut. Numerous maps & game types with some serious skill-based gameplay. TF2 looks more fun and relaxed. Crack a beer type game.

Orange Box is now available for preorder through Steam at a 10% discount. A preorder secures your entrance into the TF2 beta, which begins next Monday, September 17th. Aw yeah.

I already got HL2 and Ep1, but either way its still a deal. Damn, I'm never gonna get any work done...

$30 for TF2 alone? I may just have to rent this one instead of purchase.

.... But I just GOT this Girlfriend. Damn, she's gonna be pissed when I tell her we need to break up already.

I'm hoping that this will be the game to tickle my PC gaming fancy again. My poor computer has been nothing more than a glorified media server these past few months!

"Cry Some More!"

I guess it's still a good deal. I thought it was originally spun that Team Fortress 2 and Portal would be free along with Episode 2. Now when you look at the Orange Box you see that they both have retail value, but because it includes HL2 and Episode 1 (which I already own) you are getting a good deal.. but in reality paying more for what is supposed to be an expansions plus bonuses.

I'm irritated, but the beta entrance is a real incentive for me. I'm just broke at the moment so it couldn't come at a worse time.

Well, now I'm definitely double dipping PC & 360. Oh, well, now when my roommate's girlfriend wants to play jRPGs for 6 hours in a row, I'll still be able to game.

Valve has pissed me off. Only beta for Orange Box and not people wanting the smaller TF2 Steam packages that will eventually be released? Damnit.

Yeah I'm more than a little pissed that the only way to preorder and get the beta is the Orange Box. I already have HL2 and Episode one. I'm not buying them again.

Exactly! Preorders period should get beta entrance. If people are preordering the smaller packages it's obvious they're existing customers.

It's a beta. It's free. The righteous indignation is a little misplaced.

Beta is only a small piece of it. It is also the fact they don't have the steam packages ready to announce 3.5 weeks from release. Valve does a lot of stupid things along with great things. It is only frustrating because I like them so much.

HL2 and EP1 are free with the purchase of Orange.

DougV

So, this was posted in a thread from Doug who works for Valve. Valve considers the price of the Orange Box to be just for the new games. If I thought they would be packaging the new separate steam packages/games for the same amount I would be preloading right now.

I know the lure of the beta is going to get to me and I will end up with an extra copy of 2 games I already own, haha.

*sigh*

So we don't actually have a choice as far as what we buy?

Free my ass. Episode Two will be another 5 hours experience (albeit a great one) that I wished was half the price and Portal, while an awesome idea, will wear on me after my short attention span causes me to get stuck on like the third or fourth level. Why oh why can't I just buy Episode 2 + TF2 for like $30?

It's not free when the only way to get into it is to pay for two products you already own alongside the new ones you actually want.

I don't know, i consider $45 for that package to be an awesome value. But i never bought ep 1, so i'm a bit advantaged that way.

Well, last I heard they were claiming that Episode 2 will an 8-10 hour game, with something like twice the content of Episode 1. Based on the hour or so I got to play the game I don't have a hard time believing it.

I felt the same way about Portal as you do...until I got to play it. It's far more interesting than I expected, and I'm one of those "falls into a narcoleptic coma when 45 seconds go by without killing something" kind of gamers.

That said, I agree that it's a drag that they haven't announced any other bundles. Maybe they still will.

Taken from Slashdot comment:

Lets see here: Orange box $49.95, or pre-order for $44.95.

Or if you were to buy the new games separately:
EP2 = $29.95
Portal = $19.95
TF2 = $29.95

What I'll probably do is just buy the Orange Box under a new account and then give my old account to my girlfriend. Then we can play CounterStrike and I'll buy her TF2 if she wants to play that.

Are those official prices? I was unaware that the prices for the new steam games were released.

Yes, those are the official prices.

Episode 2 is supposed to be at least twice as long as Episode 1, thus why it is $10 more. And those are the prices for the other two. If you go to the store area of steam and browse action games, you'll see them.

I see that now, I missed it completely. Well, the Orange Box is a deal then. Thanks.

Edit: Just bought it, see you guys in beta on Monday.

Well $44 as a preorder on steam = about 55 or so dollars Australian. Given that a boxed new issue game will usually cost anywhere in the $75-90 range, thats remarkable value for money.

Valve is one of those companies that I rate up with Irrational or Blizzard. These are the companies that make solid products every time. I am more than happy to buy the orange box again even if I already have HL2/EP1. I'd probably pay double what their asking because I know I always get my monies worth when I buy from them.

Indeed. I wasn't aware official prices for each individual game had ever been announced.

Why is no one talking about Peggle Extreme?! I don't know why everyone is so excited about this "Team Life" or "Portal Fortress" or whatever, when they should be focusing on Peggle.
