"Spider-Man" Maguire bringing Robotech to the big screen

From Sci-Fi Wire

Cue the inevitable "Macross vs. Robotech" debates.

*shakes fist*

Mostly I'm just curious as to what the scope of the adaptation is going to be. As long as the results look good and the plot is coherent (ie - not the Transformers) I'm okay with whatever direction they want to go.

Robotech is crap and Minmei must die.

Screw Rick Hunter and Minmei. Bring out Scott Bernard and the Alpha fighters. Oh, and the Invid too.

That's what I'm sayin here.

Aw hell yeah.

Ooo, so who would play Yellow Dancer?

Ugh...

Please let it be Macross or Mospeada. We don't need Southern Cross or the soap opera bastardization that is Robotech.

Although I must say that I'm happy that its getting its due. I could not stand the Transformers, especially when Robotech and Gundam were around.

There's always room for GUNDAM!

I can tell from the vehemence of your statement, you actually love Minmei. Deeply.

Psych 101 taught me this keen level of observation 15 years ago.

Misa > Minmei

It's really too bad that Harmony Gold might get a cent or two for this. At least there's the chance Macross could get popularish again if enough anime nerds do their jobs.

I was kinda hoping that the success of Transformers would result in, you know, a Battletech-based movie being made.

Now that would be awesome. Do you put it in during the Clan Wars - post fall of COMSTAR or during the Battle of the Houses before the Clans arrive? Set it up as a Mercenary unit? Oh so much source material - too awesome.

Battletech/Mechwarrior would be awesome, but what's the chance that MS would turn loose of the license?

You know, no matter where they go with this, the crazy and obsessed otaku will hang him.

Him who?

I'm quite pleased that I have no idea what the hell you guys are talking about.

Tobey Maguire

uhm, sir... I'm going to need to see some form of nerd identification for this thread.

Likewise.

Are they talking about the Macross Saga? The first 36 episodes in the American series? The ones with Rick Hunter and Roy Fokker? I liked those.

Is that not cool? Am I not allowed to like those? I haven't really kept up with the do's and don'ts lately. I guess I'll be in the theater all by myself.

Voltron?

Pretty sure I'm not thinking of Voltron.

They made a game out of it, called Battlecry, it was awesome.

Had the voice of the guy that played Die Fladermaus (I probably spelled that wrong) in the Tick.

Apparently not. And be prepared for a bunch of anime people to start beating you over the head for not calling Rick Hunter by his "real" name, Hikaru Ichijyo.

I had to move and change my name after Dragon Ball Z.

I'm afraid I genuinely like Robotech. Punch what holes are needed into my nerd card and let's move on.

This is a rallying cry for the Please Please Pleese Get a Life Club. Of which I'm a card-carrying member! I have no real hopes this is going to turn out well no matter which set of materials they try to use.

That said, I agree that Minmei is a useless bimbo. And I don't care what language you say it in.

Is this about Power Rangers or something?

Is Toby going to play the Pink Ranger?

You even breath the word "Robotech" among a crowd of like-minded folks and you'll be booed and hissed at best or given a lengthy lecture of how the Americans butchered Macross.

Yeah, that's just my general response to this thread. Until I get to talking about Exo Squad and M.A.S.K., that is.

M.A.S.K - now there's an organization I can relate to.
There is photographic evidence of me in a M.A.S.K. sweatshirt as a wee lad. And Exo Squad was great, as were the Battletech cartoons.
Wordy, you were obviously raised in a cultured environment.

"We talk TV."
