Anyone picking up Madden today?

Pages

I'm gonna try to pick it up on my lunch. Anyone gonna be around tonight to play?

If there's enough interest, I might be interested in starting a Madden league. We just wouldn't have all our pretty stats like 2k8.

Well I'm waiting for a used copy(sorta of my small vote against EA NFL Franchise). I love APF, but I do want to play regular teams of the NFL. I'm a bit new with all this for I've not really been into console/PC football since back in the day of Front Page Sports, but I have the bug. I certainly love the on-line stuff 2K offers. It's great. And the APF game play is great, but I really have nothing to compare it too, so Madden may not be that big of a disappointment. Anyway, back to your question, probably be awhile before I get it. And then mostly to play a season in game. Hopefully have time with a game or two on-line, but I can barely remember everything to do in APF *Chuckle*

I'll probably snag it used if they are providing more camera angles this year.

They are not. One angle to rule them all, and in the darkness, annoy them.

I still like the game, though.

Blah. Looks like the PC version again for me!

I'm planning on grabbing it today after work.

I've got a copy coming from GameFly, will be rockin' Madden tomorrow.

Gamefly just shipped mine also.

Is anybody who owns both the 360 and ps3, picking it up for the ps3?

The achievements look pretty easy for the game, this might be my first 1000 point game without expending any real effort.

Madden 08 Achievements

I'll get it once I break down and need updated stats for last year's game to help me feel more justified in picking the Bears.

They'd be a damned fool to do so (download the big version to REALLY see the difference)

If I see a used copy somewhere for a decent price or I can get it from gamefly I might give it a shot, but probably not.

Trowan, you're not getting 2k's football game?

Not right now, I tried the demo and didn't like it. I liked the NCAA 08 demo better, and I figure Madden will be more of the same. If 2K8 drops to about $40, I might pick it up if people here are still playing it.

I see, thanks. I was leaning towrds 2k but haven't gotten either yet and won't until I get my fixed 360 back

As you probably read elsewhere, the APF demo was really bad compared to the actual game. Everything about it was unfortunately subpar.

I am likely going to get just one, and as the vast majority of GWJ has 2ks, that'll likely be the one.

Similar odds with me, I'd guess.

I have to be honest, I'm picking it up today to take advantage of the Toys R Us deal where you buy Madden and get another game 50% off. I need to pick up the latest Harry Potter game for my daughter, so I'll end up getting Madden for $45 (maybe even cheaper if I can get them to use a 20% of coupon I have). Hopefully enough people here will buy it, if not, I think I will get more out of the single player than I would 2K8.

I'll be playing both APF and Madden this year, I think. As much as I'd like to punch EA in the nuts, this Madden just clears the bar into keeper territory.

Well give us your views. I would like to know what you vet's of former Madden and 2K's are like in comparison. Give it to us straight and true.

Also, I even found that it took a full game or more to really become comfortable with APF. I'd been playing the EA games over the last two years, and it jut took awhile to adjust and learn some of the subtleties of APF. I'm lovin' it now...I may give Madden a rental, but I'm not really that interestsed in it.

Nice semi-review over at The Fanhouse. Where NCAA shined in an obscene number of picks, apparently Madden has opted for an obscene number of fumbles.

Any review that says "it looks just like it did before", when the game is now locked in at 60fps while the last two games were barely playable with their chugging and jittery framerates, gets an automatic disqualification from me. For me, that's the difference between "game I want" and "complete garbage"

Then again, if they're playing the PS3 version, it still runs sh*tty.

That's why the qualification of "semi" is there Mr. "I See EVERY FRAME" :p

My major concern was about the gameplay, and from what both the Fanhouse and GameTrailers had to say about Rubber-banding AI and turnovers, pass.

I can't help it. My moon eyes have evolved to a state far beyond your pitiful Earth optics.

I wish APF maintained it's framerate in multiplayer. I'm very much with Legion in that it's like trying to play a different game at times in multi.

Still don't think it's enough to make me buy Madden though. Especially without leagues.

My copy will arrive from Gamefly by the end of the week. I did try the demo of APF and thought it was terrible. This madden is probably the best in years from what I am reading so it should be a good year of console football.

I played a little of it last night, so far so good in my opinion. I did notice some fumbles, but I haven't looked at all the controls yet so I don't know if protecting the ball would lessen the amount of fumbles. Graphics look real good, I didn't notice any stuttering. I ended up getting it for $40 with the Toys R Us promotion - they did accept a 20% coupon from their site, so if you go there, make sure to print it out.

I'll be grabbing it on the Wii when its out next Friday.

I'll be interested to see how the controls on the Wii balance with those on the 360.

The publications say this *every* year. /haterade
