APF2k8 - Legends League S1 - Week 1

*sigh*

I threatened to sigh a lot the last time we were stuck at 13.

Has someone contacted him to let him know what's going on?

Like I mentioned, I saw him playing GoW almost all day yesterday and sent him mail Thru XBL about the new redo and sign on. But he didn't respond nor join (maybe it was someone else playing on his account or something).

No, it wasn't someone else, I had a a few friends over, and I never even checked my mail until getting up, hungover, today. I'll sign up before 5:00 this afternoon though.

Sounds like a great(!) time Pred'! Anyway if we get the schedule going, anyone who is matched with me can let me know if they can play early tomorrow (probably no later then 10am PDT). If not I'm gone till next Wednesday.

Have a good one everyone.

In. In hard.

AWESOME! The website even now has the schedule...

Jayhawker: looks like you and I are up this week. I can play most consistently after 10 pm EST most days. This weekend might be a good time, too. Let me know what your schedule is like. I can't wait to see what my Jerry Rice can do against your Ronnie Lott!

Edit: Also, can't wait to get my butt kicked...my prediction for my team: complete mediocrity.

That's the way to talk smack.

Donan, I know you said you were leaving, so we can either get the game going this AM (I'm online) or else we can play in the next two hours sometime.

Great game DS' (you beast!:>) Cool post stats on-line and at 2K Sports. Very neat. Can't wait for next round. AND thanks soooo much for perservering thru everything to get this going. Really(!) appreciate it.

Have fun all!!

Awww... I would draw one of the big veterans of the old 2k games in the first week.

Grump, what days work for you as far as me receiving my whipping?

My best days are actually weeknights, those being Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. I'm off work and generally available all day for those days.

I can play the other days but the game would have to start and finish sometime between 4pm and 7 or 8pm EST. I get up shortly after 2am for work and don't get home till after 3 in the afternoon so I go to sleep pretty early.

Holy, cow, DS! Wow...56-6...good to get your frustrations at being the commisioner out of the way before you play me!

Yes, exactly. Fear my bottled rage.

Actually, Donan threw 5 picks. So my secondary had a good day. I was a little bummed to go check the stats on the 2k page and find that Campbell may be the least of our worries. Otis Anderson. Wow!

I had heard good things about Ottis Anderson...but my running game was inept enough that he didn't do that much for me. I'm only no starting to learn how best to use Curt Warner. Well, I'm up against Earl Campbell this week, so we'll see if he can show that upstart Anderson a thing or two.

Crap, just lost the write-up!

Okay, I'll summarize: Jayhawker and I just played a great game. I pulled it out 27-21 in the 4th overtime.

He dominated me in the first half, going up 14-0. The first drive lasted 5:30. The second was for 94 yards. My 3 possessions? 3-and-outs all of 'em.

But, I returned the opening kick off of the 2nd half for a TD. I managed to corral Campbell a bit, though Jay Novacek (TE) killed me! I got a bit of production by working Dwight Clark. Jerry Rice ended the game with 1 catch for 16 yards (I hate you Ronnie Lott). With 1:53 to play, I scored to tie the game...leaving too much time. JHer scored with 49 seconds left to go up 21-14.

Well, I was desperate and pulled out the flea flicker (tit for tat...I was saving this one to match a first half play) to Clark to get me to the 1 yard line and powered it in with Curt Warner with :08 in regulation.

In OT, neither of us did much. We both missed FGs. JHer did a very smart thing, switching Ronnie Lott to cover Curt Warner (HB). This meant a crucial stop for him on a screen pass that Lott just blew up for no gain (without Lott, it was clean sailing), forcing me to kick that FG. In the end, my running game got going a bit, and I was then able to work Dwight Clark into the 4th OT. From JHer's 31, I ran twice, the last being a strong side sweep that Warner took 23 yards for the score (with a pulling guard ahead of him to the end).

Wow. What a game. JHer is gonna' be hard to beat with that secondary.

*Thrill of the game (aside from the last TD): stopping Earl Campbell on 4th-and-2 late in the second overtime.

*Some stats:

--JHer:
Theisman: 17/33, 390 yards (!), 2 TDs, 3 INTs
Novacek: 9 catches for 208 yards (!!)
E. Campbell: 34 rushes for 168 yards

--firesloth:
R. Cunningham: 15/25, 251 yards, 1 TD, 0 INTs
C. Warner: 20 rushes for 91 yards
D. Clark: 7 catches for 174 yards

Player of the Game: My special teams. One KR for TD. Other KRs yielded field positions of my own 47, 41, 48, and 31. Of 6 punts, 5 were inside the 20, including one at the 6.

Edit Yikes...just realized that Curt Warner had 71 of his 91 yards rushing in the 3 1/4 OT periods. Anemic regulation running.

I love all the stats on the 2k website! I wish they had the team summary stats you can get to at the end of the game (time of possession, number of running/passing plays, etc.)

Great game, fire. Man, I thought I was about to put you away in the first half as I was driving for a TD to me up 21-0, only to have Theissman throw one of his INTs in the endzone.

Just a great game, though. Kellen Winslow shouild have been hobbling off the field after that one!

I would say, I don't like the unlimited OT's. While it was fun, despite my wife making fun of me after we hit the third OT, it would have been heartbreaking to lose a player to injury because the game didn't let us settle for a tie.

In fact, after dipping out toes, I'd say we should lift injuries altogether. There is just no good way to replace a star, and it would really throw the balance in the games too far. I lost my WR for 20 weeks in game one of an offline season, and it just sucked. It can be hard to keep all owners active as it is, let alone once a few of them lose a couple of stars.

But this game is fun. That's freaking clear now.

This is a good idea, though I don't think we can change it for this particular league since we already started. I agree though. The almost Tecmo like nature of the game's star players makes losing them far more devastating than losing a player was in 2k5.

Kush, i'll be around tonight, and tomorrow night for a game, and then again on Thursday. Let me know when's good for you.

Jayhawker wrote:

Indeed! Thanks, guys, of going to the hassle of having two more league sign-ups so I could get in!

And to think: Madden *still* doesn't have on-line leagues.

Slumberland, when do you want to receive your beating? And by beating, I mean your beating of me.

Anyone wanna play a practice game tonight? I'm good for anytime past 5:30 PM central.

Gumbie -- If I'm on and my wife isn't still pissed at me for staying up until 12:30 am to play my 4th overtime, I'll play. So...I suppose it's unlikely I'll be able to do so!

Shoot me an invite if you see me pop on sometime.

Prederick, tonight's the best night, I will be on late tomorrow and Thursday however, but we'll try to get the game in tonight, I'm home after 5pm EST

Oh no, sir... I have been playing Madden all weekend, and will be hitting all the wrong buttons. We can have a race to the bottom, perhaps! Is tonight good? I'm free anytime, home from work at 7pm.

It all worked out in the end. Sounds like you guys got to play an epic game.

Yeah, all the more frustrating that Madden will likely outsell 2k tenfold.

I'll be around to play tonight most likely as well.

Speaking of the site, I like the 2k site for stats. I wish they showed which Randall Cunningham was from which team.

Also, they only show 10 teams right now for the standings. So unless I go into the game I can't see who hasn't played yet this week. Still a fun site, though. I plan on using the "recap" functionality to right up a recap of a future game. I didn't have the heart to do it with the game Donan and I played, because things went so wrong for Moon on his side of the ball.

If there's any more matches like Firesloth and Jayhawker's game you shouldn't be wanting for a game to write about for long.

Grump, we're hitting my time off. I'm available pretty much all the time from 4pm today through thursday afternoon. Just let me know when you want to play.

Also if anybody wants to play a pickup game tonight I'm good for it. I need the practice.

Excellent. How does either 7 or 9 PM sound?

Let's do 9pm... that'll give me time for a little practice to re-acquaint myself. See you then.

You're spoiling his plan.

Really...would that have been too much to ask?? You can mouse over the link to their name, and it'll show you more info, including which team they're on.

If you click on the Standings button just under the green banner with the league name, you can see the entire list. You can also click on the Schedule button, which will show take you to a list showing which games have been played, which haven't. (The pull-down menu on the right gives a list of owners for each team once you're at the schedule.)

We're doing well, with 3 games unplayed and lots of chatter about getting at least 2 of those played tonight!

...and how in the world did Frankie and Bean (bumpie) play with neither of them taking a sack?? I wanna' hear about that game, as it looks like a barn-burner!

I didn't hit my stride in '04 until the second season and if my offline play is any indication, history appears to be repeating itself.

Thin_J wrote:

Pretty much any day and every day after 9:30 Central. If the kids get to sleep earlier, then that time can move up but it's a good general rule.

How about tonight? 9:30 Central?

Or I can wait until tomorrow night if you think it will help.

Done!

[shorty]Ha ha ha. You very funny.[/shorty]
