WoW - flying mounts and epic flying mounts

So, just out of curiosity, what kind of flying mounts do people have? I'm still at 64, but doing the PvP Daily in HFP I often run into players with flying mounts. I'm always impressed when I see a Nether Drake, btw - those things look fantastic.

My horde mage has a regular flyer, a regular epic flyer, and a netherdrake (onyx).

It's really amazing just HOW. MUCH. FASTER. the epic flyer is.

I still only have a regular flying mount. I've never been real great at grinding cash in MMO's, so it'll probably be a while before I really start towards getting my epic flyer. Then again, I might eventually switch over to my shaman full time, so I'm not sure if I'm going to bother with it yet, especially with my little break coming up.

Regular flyer. I'm a few months from an epic, I suspect. Which makes me wonder if, at that point, I should just hold out for the rumored price drop on epic training.

I have the Regular and Swift varieties of the Gryphon mounts as well as the Netherdrake. I even have a screeny to show his approval at being away from the Dragonmaw Clan and under my ownership.

I am currently working on the Spore Bat mount but not as feverishly as I did the Netherdrake.

EDIT: Fixed the size of the pic. I am sorry I sometimes forget I run my laptop at max res sometimes.

Wow - I've noticed you've been playing her a lot lately, but I assumed it was more because there wasn't much interesting to do on Vel between raids. You must REALLY be loving Shaman!

Demonic - any chance of changing the size of the image to something that doesn't break the formatting of the page? Very nice, though.

And I assume by "spore bat" you mean Nether Ray? I don't find the rays to be anywhere near as good-looking as the drakes.

It actually stays in the page format for my computer I have to right-click, view image to see it full size. But I will what I can do.

You must have a good browser. I do too, at home!

I use Firefox at work. the IT guys gave me pretty much full access and instead of using IE I opted to use Firefox. I could potentially get in trouble for that but I will get rid of it if I need to. I just find it easier to use and alot of the sites I use at work are displayed/function better with Firefox.

I have the regular griffon flying mount. I think Krindle and Troll are the only two GWJ Alliance players with epic flyer's. Given the 5,000 G price tag, it takes time and effort to put together that kind of jack; that is, of course, assuming you aren't a protection pally ... perhaps Krin can address just how that works as I'm sure Fed would be interested in the answer.

I also think the nether ray looks like ass. I would just as soon have a flying squirrel as my mount than a nether ray.

I would love to head into Tempest Keep and grab the Phoenix mount from there. But I did see an Arena Netherdrake and for the people that are grinding the Netherwing rep when you fly against Skyshatter that is the mount I am talking about. It is huge and it is armored. Plus it is even faster than the Swift mounts. Swifts are 280 and the Arena are 320 I think. I would have to look up the number again, but I know they are faster.

And I picked up my Drake today. I'll probably keep the epic griffon for a while, but if bank space gets low, out he goes.

There is a secret route to Prot Pally fortune? Sweet!

As I understand it you have to buy the 300 riding skill to have any epic flier, and the mounts themselves aren't that epensive, right? Meaning that once you can afford the 5000g, you go ahead and get the epic gryphon, even if you're planning on grinding for the Nether Drake.

So at 70 you can buy 225 riding AND 300? Seems a little strange - is the cash the only thing standing between a fresh 70 and an epic flying mount?

Wow, grats! Well, you are a pilot, after all...did they give you a serviceman's discount?

I still have every single mount that I ever bought.
My regular 40 level mount
2 Swift level 60 ground mounts from the vendor in Dar (I am an impulse spender and bought a mount because it matched the pet cat I had)
The Swift Ram from AV before they made the price of the skill and mount split (I lucked out sooo bad with this I picked this bad boy up for 9g......9G!!!)
I picked up a Talbuk from the Vendor in Halaa with all the marks I have saved up there.
And then the flying mounts that I mentioned earlier. I have soo much wasted space in my bank it is not even funny but everything there has a sentimental value to it and I can't seem to get rid of it.

To the best of my knowledge, that is correct.

I think I read that the real world value of your 300 riding skill was about $600 (using gold sellers as a point of valuation), which is pretty crazy.

Wow.

I'd rather the $600.

I've always sucked at grinding gold in wow, i just dont have the patience for it. That said, I have a rogue with his reg flying mount and i have TWO 70's with no flying mount at all (gave all their gold to the rogue lol) so I was wondering what you people did to get the gold for your epic flyers, or if anyone can suggest where to go what to do to grind out the 1k or so for the regular one on my goofed up 70 with no flyer :\

hehe... actually now it's a lot easier to get the 5k gold to get the epics if that's what you wanna do. With BC it's so much easier to pick up money and with them bringing in the daily quests it makes even easier. If you do all the daily quests you're looking at around 110g.

yea but im told you NEED an epic mount to do alot of those daily quests where yje others at?

edit: talking on the phone and typing sux

Solitaire, Most professions allow you to make some money. The gathering professions can make you a small fortune if you are persistent: leatherworking, herbalism, and mining. Others like alchemy also sell real well. The herbalism/alchemy combination netted me close to 2,000 g while I was leveling from 60-70.

Another way to do it is to farm mats such as primals and netherweb silk that sell real well on auction.

Basically, you have to grind, which apparently you don't like to do

yea i hate grinding. funny cause i have like 12050215012 70's. its kind of a curse now, cause every night i jump from one 70 to the next and never spend enough time on any single one to get anywhere. I CANT DECIDE WHAT TO DO SOMEONE HELP ME!@$%$%!@%@!%!@%

i have a 63 elemental shaman, 70 rogue, 70 arms warrior, 70 arc/fire mage, 70 marks hunter, 70 resto druid - and im all about pvp and maybe a few instances but mostly pvp

wtf should i play? someone needs to come right out and slap me and say bish, play your x 70 k? or i'm gonna keep doing it every night. log on rogue play 1 av, log out, farm 10 mins on my mage, log out... etc. Roll an alt. haha

#1 spec protection
#2. grab 10-20 lvl 66 mobs
#2. Sell stuff they drop

Two dailies in Skettis for 12 gold each.

Four dailes in Ogri'la for 12 gold each

I have no idea how many PvP dailies (Hellfire, Zangarmarsh, Terrok, and Nagrand) with a little gold to offer.

And, when you get 300 riding, up to nine dailies for Netherwing (most for 12 gold, one for 18 gold).

/slap

Bish, pick the one you have most fun with and play it.

You know... I'd be a lot more motivated to get my epic flying skill if you could get a flying squirrel.

thanks troll thats no help at all if i knew which one was the most fun the answer would be apparent, thing is i have reasons for not liking each one. Rogues just feel weak now, my mage and hunter and druid are on a pve server i really dont like, (and dont know anyone on anymore) my warrior i like alot but he's broke at 70 with no flying mount :\

Got step 1 down, but as I'm level 64 I don't think steps 2 and 3 are quite viable yet. I have been known to gather packs of four or so while questing.

Solitaire - Did you transfer a character to Blackhand yet?

Substitute for lower level mobs.

As to how to make money in the expansion, I have a simple answer:

Quest. I made a ton of money doing that.

If the Warrior is what you like (hey, you said it), then play that...as for being broke, if you're on Blackhand, we can help. Hell, there nothing left for me to spend my gold on anyway.

Before the one patch where they redid a lot of the loot tables and made the crafting mats drop more frequent, ie the element primals and leather pieces scale with the level of the mobs, prices of the AH have gone way down on my server. I used to be able to sell Cobra Scales, which are used in the +40AP / +15 Crit Armor Kit for 50g for 2. Now they are around 20g for 2. Hell I used to sell the Cobrascale Armor Kits for 150g. But they have dropped to about 60g. I am a Skinner/LW and I used the AH to make my 5k for my Epic mount.
If you really want to you can buy the mounts before the skill. The Swift Gryphon is 200g and the regular is 100. I did this to supress the impulse to blow some of my gold on stupid stuff and once I got the 5k gold I went right to the trainer in SMV and bought the skill and got on my Epic flyer. It was glorious how much faster that thing is. I thought the leap from the 60 speed ground mount to the 100 speed ground mount was a big leap but this far and away surpasses it.
