But can he sing this?

Well, I guess he fits the part physically if you tape some pointy ears on him.

I can see him as Spock, but I have a hard time seeing Grunberg as Scotty

Meh. He just doesn't look right to me.

I don't know that any actor will look "right" to me. I'll just wait for the finished product.

You know I read through that and I simply thought of Spock instead of Scotty. Yeah, I don't see him as Scotty. I think Ewan McGregor would make a good, younger Scotty.

"Enterprise" was enough Star Trek prequel material for a lifetime. I don't care for prequels.

Well it shouldn't be a problem working on two jobs next year, Sylar should be a minor villian (gearing up to be the main villian again in S3) this time around me thinks.

The rumor is getting closer to truth. Quinto has been spotted at the San Diego Comic Con, which is where the announcement is supposed to be made at any minute. Also spotted there is Leonard Nimoy, who's rumored to be in the movie, possibly in scenes taking place some time after Kirk's death in Star Trek Generations due to the fact that Shatner's not in it and based on remarks made by Nimoy at a recent Trek convention.

Edit: Here's the new teaser poster, confirming the reports that JJ Abrams just wants to call it "Star Trek" without any numbers or other titles.

Official. Quinto is Spock; search still on for new Kirk.

3:07 - One announcement they have today is Spock: Zachary Quinto will play Spock, officially.

Edit: Also official; Nimoy to return as an older Spock.

3:10 - Teasing with "more casting stuff". He's going to yet again play Spock again: Leonard Nimoy takes the stage yet again and the audience goes wild. More photo flashes than anything.

I don't know anything about Qunito, but seeing Nimoy as Spock on the big screen has me very, very excited. Love the poster too.

Can't wait until next December!

I believe Nimoy's last prominent role was as "Seaman" , the Dreamcast game. I was pretty sure he died afterwards. The Nimoy, not the Seaman. The Seaman lives forever.

I guess you forgot a little game called Sid Meier's Civilization IV. Or how about a little episode of a little cartoon called Futurama?

Nonsense ! None compare to the greatness that is... the Seaman.

Quinto as Spock. So lets see... attempt to make eyes more oriental looking which will probably make him look like a man dressed like a geisha. They will have to use some kind of NASA developed base makeup to cover up the permanent grey tint of his facial hair. I would have to see him in costume and makeup before I could really give Quinto a fair shake.

As for Kirk.. hmm. I think he should be easier to find someone young to portray him. Now all they need is the cocky, impatient, cowboy, womanizer attitude that Kirk had.

All they need is a cameo of Picard's great great grandfather in the Academy along with Kirk with his either French or British accent.

I don't really mind there being no Shat in this Star Trek. He should be around to be an acting coach for whoever plays him though.

"No... No... more like this... with more... PAUSES!

And further, from MSN.Com's front page, which I can't find anymore to link:

After "The Bourne Ultimatum," Damon has agreed to play Captain James Kirk. Will he play the beloved captain by the numbers or tap into whatever fire originally propelled young Kirk into space? Let's hope for the latter. Damon has yet to truly let himself go, to trust passion to transport him into terra incognita. For him, acting is still all about pain and control: "I always attribute that to my lack of imagination. For me, it's a question of researching the s*** out of something, and sometimes it works, and sometimes I end up with something I can barely bring myself to watch."

Huh... I think he'll do a good job, Damon's acting chops have really grown over last 10 years.

Quinto as Spock eh? It would be cool to see Spock chop people's heads open instead of of using the Vulcan neck pinch.

*sigh* I knew it was too much to hope that they'd get someone decent. At least it's not Affleck. *shudder*

Yo, Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms

They did get someone decent, Matt Damon is a really good actor especially in the bourne Trilogy and I have tons of faith in him to play Kirk.

That's probably because it's a rumor that's been flatly refuted by Matt Damon himself.

So... he was good in one movie - a movie that was released almost ten years ago. Yeah.

It's a quote, Dhel.

From?

MATT DAMON! WE'RE GUARRRRRRDS!

Man, I liked the first Bourne movie. And I could suffer the second one. But please, please please please, let him two handed back punch and two footed flying kick the crap out of people or I refuse to accept him as Kirk. And NO SHAKEY CAM! And teach him to act smug and still manage to show a little charm.

ALL IS LOST! ABANDON SHIP! WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!

See: Talented Mr. Ripley, or as "The Nose" in the Last Ocean's movie. Boy gots skillz.

I can't believe anyone is debating who should be Kirk. It's not like Shatner is Olivier or even Samuel L "effing" Jackson. We are talking about TJ Hooker here.

You just need someone to camp it up a little, and sound authoritative when issuing the "Take us out of orbit Mr. Checkov" order for the 1000th time.

Even Johnny Damon can handle that!
