GTD Weekly: March 25-31, 2012

It's really amazing what independent people can do with hand cameras these days. That Lab Ratt teaser was awesome.

Ah dangit. I just got a new PS3 with a bigger hard drive, and haven't even transferred my stuff to it yet. And now there's a new console a year out? And all because PC users can't see the individual sweat molecules on the back of the blue alien chick they're nailing in Mass Effect 3.

Bugger.

Why is it console hardware goes obsolete as soon as software developers figure out what they're doing with it? Every time someone finishes a trilogy I won't even play it's $500 to me.

Love these episodes.

Nice fan art on the PS3. If and when Sony can tie it all together with the new PS, their position will be pretty strong.

I like this format for the links. Very straightforward.

The PS3 came out in 2006. If a new console is indeed coming in 2013, that will be a 7 year cycle, so I don't think that's too short of a turnaround. Granted, the console had some major issues that weren't fixed until later, so maybe the turnaround seems shorter if you were a later adaptor (like I was).

PC users are not driving the console cycle.

...can't tell if serious or over thought out troll...

All I hear about is how console technology is holding PC game development back. Certis said on the podcast that he's looking forward to the new console generation so he can finally use his whole graphics card.

Not a troll, just frustrated that I have to replace something that works perfectly well because the world economy basically relies on everyone being a magpie on speed. I feel largely the same way about Blue ray players. It took over a decade before some of my favorite movies were finally released on DVD, and now the market is telling me to maintain relevance I have to scrap all that out and start over.

Why feel the need to upgrade so fast? I hold off on purchasing a new console until after a year past it's launch date - tells me if the hardware has any issues and gives time for relevant great software to debut. If the Orbis really does come out 2013, then it'll be 2014 before I even consider a purchase.

Two years from now at the earliest sounds about right for a new console, especially if you just bought the old cycle.

Just posting to say that I really appreciate GTD Weekly. As a very busy gamer, it brings the exact sort of news I am interested in to me in a concise, visually attractive and professional package. Thanks!

I'm surprised anyone would call that trolling, although I am somewhat against the concept that people want better graphics capability for that sort of stuff, as opposed to, say, realistic foliage or water effects, which I think is perfectly understandable. I don't really think it's the fault of the PC gamer, either - just console companies wanting to compete with a platform that is, as far as specs go, permanently impossible to compete with because of the nature of console design - not modular.

I hope Prey 2 isn't cancelled or finds someone else to make it if so,
being a bad-ass sci-fi bounty hunter is something I would enjoy; greatly, in fact.
I'm also a late PS3 adopter, and I still haven't finished any of the six disc games I have nor any of the 6 psn titles I have.

I'm not sure what the big deal is. If you are late PS3 adopter, then just be a late PS4 adopter and enjoy your friggin' console. There are years worth of games to play and enjoy.

The PS4 will be cheaper when you get around to it, just the like the PS3 was.

It's a relevance thing for me. If I were two years backlogged on the GWJ podcast, then I'd be okay with it. As it stands now, though, once the next gen hits they'll basically stop talking about games I can play right now until I finally get around to adopting the next generation.

Of course, since I own a PS3 and a Wii but not an Xbox360 or a gaming PC, they basically never talk about games that I can play anyway (excepting multiplatform releases), so I guess it won't make much difference.

Gonna guess that PAX got in the way this weekend?
