GTD Weekly: March 11–17, 2012

Section:

It's almost as if the news cycle never ends. Epic is again forging into new territory with the first publicly available demo for the Unreal Engine running in Flash. Not to be outdone on the tech front, Crytek is also readying its first free-to-play title with the class-based shooter Warface.

On the Kickstarter front, Double Fine's campaign to fund a new adventure game has closed, and they received a bit more than anticipated—8 times more.

If you've heard Star Wars: The old Republic talk on the Conference Call, you know that it is a pretty good game. For those holding out on plunking down some hard-earned cash on the title and monthly fees, now is the time to give it a try as it's completely free to play through the weekend.

And finally, a little game called Diablo 3 finally has a solid release date.

Comments

I think Warface is probably the dumbest name for a shooter I've seen in years. Or even just for a game in general.

It's gotta be a play on "gameface" for I really don't see what they're going for there. On the other hand, any worse than a generis modern FPS shooter name?

Let me see your Warface, Private Joker

completely unsafe for work

Maybe not. It's possible it just seems dumber because it's still new. I remember lots of pokes and prods at Ghost Recon when they announced the Advanced Warfighter subtitle but people eventually just stopped noticing that. Of course now that Ghost Recon has been on hiatus for so long it's time to make fun of the term again with the new Medal of Honor

Oooh, good point. I don't quite hate the name as much now.

Of course, this is what it makes me think of.

Had to do it. I couldn't let that video choice sit in there as if I "just really like it." ;P
