I have no idea where you're going for Chinese that General Tso is sweet, but they seriously fail at Chinese food.
I understand that our version of Chinese food, for the vast majority, is a bastardization of traditional Chinese food, but I have yet to ingest General Tso's, or Tao's, chicken dishes that weren't sweet, and somewhat spicy. I tend to stay away from it though as it is packed full o' fat. I tend to go with Chicken w/ broccoli and brown rice, if they have it.
Every place around here does different Tso's. There's a place downtown that I really liked, even though it was definitely sweeter than it needed to be. Most of them are.

Well, a lot of what you'll find at hole in the wall chinese places is americanized Chinese. However, while General Tso in particular should have a bit of a sweet aftertaste, that's in no part due to any amount of actual sugar in the sauce or seasonings. Well, at least not according to the recipe I use.
So I saw this thread still up near the top of the page today and thought "Wow, they're still talking about that?"
Only they're not. It's now a discussion about chinese food. What the hell.
You're welcome, Thin.

Rails are for rubies, Thin. Or, put another way, "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads."

Rails are indeed for Rubies.
Anyway, I think I might make some General Tso later this week. Just sayin, is all.

The true General Tso's, or the sugar-infested goodness?

Real stuff that's so spicy it takes skin off the roof of your mouth, although I think I might do that next week. I made a delicious japanese-style curry last night, and am currently consuming leftovers.
Hrm, perhaps this deserves its own thread.
