Rock Band catch-all

Time to clean up. Harmonix wants to know what songs should be in the game.

Link

Cookie to the first person that can find the Guitar Hero 1/2 threads we had going with all the suggested songs we wanted in those games.

Dude looks like a Lady.

Looks like I get the cookie.

edit:

My choices so far are:
Blur – Coffee and TV
Blur – Song 2
Derek and the Dominos: Layla
Queens of the Stone Age: Go With The Flow
Tenacious D - f*ck her gently
Poets of the Fall - Late Goodbye
The Pillows - Last Dinosaur
Steve Vai - For the Love of God

How about:

Sound Garden: Black Hole Sun
Indigo Girls: Go
Mansun: Shotgun
Muse: Plug-in Baby
Paul McCartney: No Values
Stereophonics: Local Boy in the photograph
The Ataris: The summer wind was always our song
Wheatus: Teenage Dirtbag
At the drive in: Chanbara

I know they're a bit random, but i figured they'd be fun to play as a group rather than having one part outshine the rest.

Tenacious D's "f*ck her Gently" is boring to play. If anything, they should include "Master Exploder" or maybe the Beelzeboss tune. A lot of "popular" songs are pretty boring.

They should add some Steve Vai fo' sho. And goddamn it, how about some Metallica finally.

Use the first link I posted and submit it the songs.

Here's a few of mine. I'll come back with some more later.

Any Way You Want It by Journey
Purple Haze by Hendrix
Fall to Pieces by Velvet Revolver
The Distance by Cake
Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam
Hold Me Down by The Gin Blossoms
Day Tripper by The Beatles
Re: Your Brains by Jonathan Coulton
Pinball Wizard by The Who
Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind
Sex Type Thing by Stone Temple Pilots
Shine by Collective Soul
Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet
Last Night by The Strokes
Hard To Handle by The Black Crowes
Run-Around by Blues Traveler (they need to make a harmonica peripheral for this one)

They are also missing Santana, BB King, Yes (were they in Guitar Hero 2?), and the white Stripes... Man, I gotta make a list before I submit.

Hell, even Lenny Kravitz's "Are you gonna go my way", we know he loves to whore it for games...

Anyone know why Hendrix's Spanish Castle Magic wasn't complete in the first game? Didn't even have a singer...

The Hendrix estate wouldn't let them.

When i die, i'm going to leave it in my will that my estate won't get control of my IP. I'll tell them that they can make their own money and release my IP into the ether of free-use.

I vote Thee Michelle Gun Elephant - Dust Bunny Ride On

Would make a nice japanese counterpoint to the Pillows

More good ol' punk! I know a lot of it isn't hard on the guitar, but I really loved Rancid on GH2, and I will pay with my own blood for a chance at Mike Ness or Social D on my 360 (+ surround sound).

Also: Descendents -- Coffee Mug

Peanuts - The Police
Walk This Way - Aerosmith & Run DMC
Just a Girl - No Doubt
Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
Won't Back Down - Tom Petty
Dope Nose - Weezer
Cannonball - Breeders

Looks like a less cartonish Guitar Hero.

I was wondering - i'll put it here rather than starting its own thread and i couldn't find a Guitar hero catch all using the search - which is better for general rockiness, GH 1 or 2. The reason being is that i'm going to buy a copy on the PS2 for my mum and her partner, both have wanted to play guitar for a long time and even bought each other guitars but are probably never going to learn.

My mum likes metal like Black sabbath and judas priest and her partner is just more of a general rock person.

Thanks to anyone who replies.

Guitar Hero 1, it has the far better tracklist.

I doubt they'd go all the way to Expert, where the easier hammer-ons of GH2 are essential. GH1 has Iron Man, Judas Priest, and a lot of other great stuff. GH2 has War Pigs, tho.

Buy both, maybe?

I'd go with GH1 as well, the tracklist is just...better, and has more metal. If they like it you can then tempt them with the multiplayer in GH2 so they can play together. That's when you'll know you've got them.

Thanks, guys! I appreciate your feedback!

Sleep Now In The Fire - Rage Against The Machine
The Day I Tried to Live - Soundgarden
Go With The Flow - Queens of the Stone Age

Well they better knock that crap off, because there's only one correct answer to the "song that needs to be in GH/RB":

Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower

There have been mixed reactions regarding Harmonix' upcoming title, Rock Band. Its scale alone is overwhelming, making skeptics think it would be difficult to pull off. Many fear the price tag that would come with the game, while hardcore rock fans fear not how much it would cost.

Some of its biggest features are finally revealed by Game Informer, as a poster over at NeoGAF forums reported.

As expected, there will be four campaigns on a single disc: guitar, drum, bass and vocal. The co-op mode will cater for the full band. Both Xbox 360 and PS3 will support online four-player mode, but multiplayer can be done offline.

Network will allow setting up a gig with anyone from anywhere in the world, so let's hope there won't be lag or delay. Guitars and bass get a makeover, now having 10 frets - half will be for regular sections while the others will be for rockin' out solo. Whammy bar and tilt (which activates Rock Band's version of Star Power) is back, along with other cool additions like a five-way switch to play around with sound effects.

Vocalists won't be having an easy way out, as the singing mechanic sounds pretty serious. A detector will catch everything you say 'til you impress the crowd enough to go free-form. From that, better performance would lead to activating Star Power (or whatever it will be called). The microphones can be used as a tambourine for songs that are light on the vocals.

Even if one guy messes up, the show must go on. Game won't end and the player who failed to keep up will be shown in gray. If everyone finishes, a free-form jam session ensues.

Customization looks pretty extensive. Rockers can create multiple virtual selves for different instruments, and choose how they'll move on the stage. Band logos can also be made. There are also four different shops with varied themes where you can change your look. Other paraphernalia will be on sale, too.

Here's the wrap on peripherals:

Guitar/Bass: 3/4 exact replica of a Fender Stratocaster. Xplorer guitars may work on 360 but with limited features. New buttons for solo sections. Five-way switch to apply sound effects.
Microphone: Rock Band mic not yet available, USB mics will work. Mics will be used as tambourines in some songs. Xbox 360 headset might not work.
Drums: Four pads (one is snare, others work as cymbals or toms depending on song), a kick pedal, legs for the unit to stand on, set of real wooden sticks. Unit can be placed on a coffee table. Game on hard or expert can make a realistic drumming experience.
Apparently, the drum design featured on the mag wasn't final yet. What we know for sure, is that the peripherals will be unique to each console no thanks to Microsoft and hardware issues. New songs were also listed out. If you sent in your song suggestions, you might find those titles here.

Weezer - Say It Ain't So - Original Master Track
Black Sabbath - Paranoid - Original Master Track
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again - Original Master Track
Nirvana - In Bloom - Original Master Track
It's still a long way 'til the Holiday release, so you've got time to save up every penny and make sure you can afford this when it comes out. Harmonix did promise that it won't cost too much, but we'll watch out for their next word and inform you about it

Must buy 360 or PS3 to be able to play this game.....

*Drools*

I have a feeling no one will want to sing in four player mode. I'd like to call dibs on drums.

Seconded, and

"To clear away the haze!"

That's what you think - in reality, I can't wait to inflict my singing upon an unprepared Goodj public. Mwahahah!
(this morning I was singing "If I Could Turn Back Time" by Cher as I got ready)

I call lead guitar, no backsies. Also, I'd like to nominate Edwin to be like the guy from Mighty Mighty Bosstones who doesn't sing or play an instrument, but just jumps around the stage in a plaid suit. Plaid Suit Hero.

I voted for Mount Rockmore by The Bags. I thought about doing Last by NIN though.

Also some Paranoid Sabbath is awesome, but I'd really like to have seen Hand of Doom. Oh well, the whole album is pretty great anyway (and someone is obviously a fan, since Iron Man and War Pigs have already appeared in Harmonix games).

Hm, it's nice to add features and all, the stuff they are talking about for the guitar sounds more like a ploy to force players to buy their periphreal rather than anything to really improve gameplay.

Hmmm... I'd sing but I'd not sound much better than a wet cat.

I'll sing as soon as they add Crash Test Dummies to the set list.

Low droning voice Superman Song Dummies or high pitched falsetto voice Give Yourself a Hand Dummies?

Aw hell naw, I'll have to challenge your spot for lead guitar. A guitar duel, much like that movie Crossroads with the Karate Kid has to ensue.
