HALO 3 Beta

I don't know DS. The final few levels of Halo are awesome. That final level is a complete blast. But you could wait until the beta is over to finish it. But I think you should finish Halo 1, especially since Halo 2 has no ending in the single player.

Had a chance to play some games this weekend. Fun as always. The experience will really improve once there are more than the three maps in rotation.

Things of note:
Playlist was updated mid-game yesterday. Interesting that they can do that on the fly with no update needed.
Needler much more powerful (though you can no longer dual-wield it). Great mid-range weapon on open ground (Snowbound and the field in front of Higher Ground).

Looks like the current playlists are as follows:

Social Matches
Big Team Training
Double Team Training
Team Training

Ranked Matches
Team Slayer
Big Team Battle
Rumble Pit

So the bad news is that there is no more Rumble Training, which means no more Goodjer only free for all. However, the good news is that now parties of 2, 4, 6, 8, and 12 are all viable options for playing either goodjer only or goodjer vs. strangers.

I'm still trying to decide what to do when the beta ends. I picked up Halo 2 yesterday. So I have that for when the beta ends. I think when all is said and done, though, I might not finish Halo 1. I just have no interest in SP. I think I may go with Edwin's idea of playing the first 4 levels or whatever and then read the books and play MP.

If you don't have an interest in seeing the games through to their ending, then those books aren't going to make a whole lot of sense or be that interesting. The books do a lot to fill in the gaps and flesh out the Halo universe and while they are superb companions to the game story lines, by themselves I don't know if they would hold the same entertainment value.

I've finished all of the Nylund books, which are the books set before and in between the games, and are really a joy for the Halo enthusiast. Right now I'm reading the Dietz book, which is just a novelization of Halo 1, and so far I'm not that thrilled with it. I'm sure this is because I've played Halo 1 enough to memorize it.

So, if you want to go ahead and read the books without playing the games, I would suggest reading The Flood first, even though that would be chronologically out of order, to get the same feel of how the Nylund authored books relate to the main universe.

The last level of Halo is probably the 2nd best after the Silent Cartographer.

I don't recall which one is the Silent Cartographer but the last level of Halo is one of the best levels of all time, period!

Silent Cartographer is the beach level with the Marines, Warthog, and the two Hunters.

Oh yeah good stuff. But I preferred the last level simply because it was so distressful and spectacular.

Four pairs of Hunters, eight well-placed pistol shots waiting to happen.

I still remember the day when I made that particular discovery. A little piece of me died inside.

I will most likely be on tonight after I go running, shower, and grab a bite to eat. I was on all Sunday night in preparation for our day off but sadly everyone was playing Gears instead.

So I conformed and had to quickly learn about the importance of cover again.

And then Worms. Yeesh...

Are people playing Worms? I've never played it before and would like to give it a try if other Goodjers are playing it. Is the general public playing it in numbers?

I don't play, per se.

Seems like interest in the Beta has waned with Shadowrun and Forza released. Anyone still planning on playing this or should I send my copy of Crackdown back?

I would like to play either tonight or tomorrow night. Even if we can only get enough people to man 1 team, then we could head off to the wild world of ranked matches. (Read I don't own Forza 2 or Shadowrun )

I'll be playing a bit sometime this weekend, but

1. I've got a busy weekend planned
and
2. I am involved with my new toy (Forza)

so I'm not exactly sure when or how much I will be playing.

I'm still interested. Just busy this week and out of town this coming weekend. Then I'll be back off and on until the Beta ends.

I'll be in. I'm still at work right now, so that should tell you how this week has been, that's all. If I don't run into anyone, I may brave a ranked list. Of course, I'm not sure how many people still have a -1 rank.

We've confirmed that Rabbit does.

So what are people moving onto after the Halo 3 beta? I'm curious because I've had a tremendous time playing with you guys. And I want to keep it up. But I'm having a hard time getting a feel for whether Goodjers will be Halo'd out and wait until Halo 3 to play more or whether Zombie Skate will kick into high gear or what. Is there another game (that isn't Gears) with multi-player that's getting popular or might be? Just curious if someone can venture a guess.

Forza for those that like that. You can join me and some others in Phantom Dust if you like card games.

Hey thanks for the Halo3 games last night. It was a lot of fun. Maybe we could get some games going tonight too.

I wonder how the Spartan III in SPI armor is going to balance out.

Just in case anyone doesn't know what that is you can find out here.

Flamethrower warthog:

I need to change my pants.

When exactly is the beta over? Anyone up for some multiplayer later tonight?

Wow, I didn't think the Spartan III's would ever make it into anything. That's pretty damn awesome.

As far as balancing, it will probably just be a model change (like the Spartans and Elites in Halo 2 multiplayer). If not, and they stick to what the III's do in the book, then they should be faster, more agile, and be able to cloak. And be 12 years old.

That brute chopper looks like 3 kinds of badass. When I look at it I want it to sound like the Reaver ship from Serenity (at the beginning).

I'm up for it.

Anyone else think one of the new helmets looks like a balding Spartan? The Choppers look like a giant Elite head, eyes and everything.

Like if Michael Ironside were a suit of armor? Yeah, yeah I can kind of see that.

I would love to play tonight too. What time?

I might be on tonight
