Guitar Hero 3 Announced

Looks like I'll be playing that Weezer song exactly once. If the rest of the game is that easy, I might only have to rent it

yeah it does kinda look like medium diff with orange notes. Ive heard said that its supposed to be easier than 2 but harder than 1, having not played the later its a bit hard to understand the scale.

maybe these are just very early songs?

Random Troll, IMO.

Nah, he's a friend of mine who plays with GWJ more than he posts. All the Gears people know him.

So far I have made my saving throws versus buying GH2 (again) on the 360, but GH3 is just about a lock.

And Pred, totally right with you on AC/DC. And even though they probably wouldn't do it (and I may have said this in the other thread), I'd pay ridiculous amounts of cash for an all-Metallica version. Gimme, say, 30 Metallica songs and no guitar for $200? Deal. But you can't include anything later than the black album.

Probably as the guy who hands out the pain if he's who I think you're talking about.

Neversoft can't use any code from GH2? The timing is also different? Doubt rising.

No doubt. I hope that was only Hard.

The IGN article mentions it was a very early version of the game, and they were tweaking the timing.

As far as the difficulty (or lack thereof), it DID look much slower than expert. My guess would be that they were playing on hard. Expert would have had more difficult chords, and the scroll speed would have been faster. That aside, I really really like how the new guitar is sounding. The buttons aren't raised as high, and they've gone back to the rounded buttons of the PS2 version. Should be much easier to slide up and down the neck of the guitar now, which was my only real problem with the 360's guitar.

I personally find playing on a difficulty of higher than Medium to be more work than fun. Yes, I'm a wuss.

And Mmm, when did you change your sig re: Kathode? I just noticed.

Fed, quit being a wuss. Go put in GH1 and play Infected until you can get through it. You should be able to play at least half of the hard songs after that simply by being familiar with the Hard/Expert chords.

Did you say Infected because you know I'm a huge BR fan, or for some other reason?

And just by the by, I did play some Hard last weekend in GH2 - I think I "passed" 3 or so songs, including "Mother" and "Surrender". But I don't feel a sense of accomplishment when I'm just 3-starring the songs, and my solos are just me hanging on for dear life, missing every other note. So yeah, big baby here. =P

No, Infected is just a great learning song for hard. I think you hit every common two button chord in it, and you have to jump from G/R to B/O or G/Y to Y/O on a semi-consistent basis. The rhythm is consistent, and you hold on each chord for a little while. If you've never done it before, then you won't make it much past 20% at first, but after a few tries, you'll get progressively further and further. If you play it until you're comfortable with it, you can easily punch through a bunch of the hard ones afterwards. I haven't found any songs on GH2 that are as effective, and the Tier 1 songs in GH2 on Hard are ridiculous. Aside from maybe Mother or Surrender, they really belong further down the list.

EDIT: Thinking on it further, maybe Strutter would be a good one to learn on Hard in GH2. I'm not sure.

My trick was to pick a couple songs and just grind on them until I got good. It wasn't bad because they're pretty great songs. Guess which songs they were. It shouldn't be hard for a kindred spirit.

Two new songs revealed.

Evenflow by Pearl Jam
Lay Down: Priestess

I'd have to guess Infected and I Wanna Be Sedated, although I find the latter kind of boring to play. If I had to choose my two favorite songs in GH1, it would be Infected and Unsung - although those aren't the most fun songs to play; Cowboys From Hell is definitely one of the most fun to play. Man, that game was just chock full of fun songs. Better than GH2, really.

Oh yeah, I only have GH2. It's Possum Kingdom and Salvation. TCU's rock laurettes and Rancid -- How can you go wrong?

Thats pretty hot. Give me a nice sunburst faceplate and Im in. I hope the fret button changes aren't too drastic. I prefer the low profile 360 buttons to the high PS2 ones.

I think I'll be grabbing the new controller if it is indeed wireless.

As for the GH2 DLC working on 3? I sincerely doubt it will work. They've already stated how they had no access to the previous code and the game's been built from the ground up. One can only hope though.

Huh, that looks pretty f*cking good. I think ... Well, I'll wait for the price because I already have 3, but I think I'm in.

Oh, I love Salvation. But I've never liked the Toadies, even though they're from Texas. I'm under the impression from some that I should give them a chance.

What I don't see is a wire attached to that thing

To fit my Xbox Live gamertag into my sig, I had to edit out some of Kathode's quote. It was a terrible thing, but it had to be done to bring more Burrito to the unwashed masses.

Regarding playing on difficulties other than Medium.. I actually find it far more enjoyable. The chords synch with the music a lot better with hard.. and when you get to Hard, you really feel like you're playing the songs at times.

I'm actually stuck in Expert right now. I just can't pass Psychobilly Freakout. I've gone on and passed every other song in Expert in the practice mode, but I can't move on career until I get it out of the way. So frustrating!

Because the article says it's wireless you skimmer.

I ... I knew that!

Still, it's probably the number one improvement over GHII.

According to 1up and IGN, there's been a big change in the timing of the game, mostly because they don't have access to old code. This is surely to change in the coming months as they continue to work on it, but it's still something that will really affect the game. My current status is "Cautiously Optimistic".

At least give that song and "Away" (also from the Rubberneck album) a shot. They're mostly heavier than Kingdom would have you think, though.

...drool....

I had to break down and buy a 2nd guitar when I found a used one for $40... single player isn't the bomb like multiplayer is.

No word yet on 4 player guitar hero? (or 3??)

I could see 3 working, Rhythm+lead+bass and I know that Pearl Jam plays Evenflow with 3 guitarists, but I'm not too sure how 4 players would work... unless, that is, you wanna sing.

I'd love to see them add in some kind of dueling guitars and/or improvisational mode.

I'm picturing a sort of simulation of those concerts of some great guitarist like BB King playing and Stevie Ray Vaughan comes out and they go back and forth playing against each other.

The game would have to cheat a bit for you since you only have the 5 notes (6 if you can play with no fretbuttons) but I think it could be done so that it would be a lot of fun.

heh- I mentioned the 4 just to make use of the 4 controllers that I will own at that time... Most likely I'll just get the one wireless guitar... so Rhythm, Lead, Bass would be just fine.

mmm... Les Paul. I can't wait.
