Forza 2: The Catch-All

Why must I work rather than play today? Why oh why oh why?

No soul eh? What the f*ck is that supposed to mean?

I'm right here!

I need to rent this first. I put probably 500 hours into GT 1-4, I'm not sure I'll put much time into this game.

Oh, I just felt that the cockpit view was more immersive. It certainly made it a bit harder to play, but it was a more enjoyable experience for me. It's not a big loss, but it would just be nice to have as an option.

Really? I find it cumbersome and blocks your view way too much. You're looking at the road ahead so the hood view is the closest thing to reality imo.

Agreed. Trying to view a 3D world through a flat rectangular box is all the view obstruction one could possibly need IMO. Although a cockpit view certainly looks cool. But with peripheral vision, as well as a good chunk of straight-ahead vision already out the window, blocking your view any further seems unnecessary to me.

Now, with one of those badass multi-TV setups, then it might be a different story.

Or with something like this.

Scored my copy at a game crazy during lunch. Can't wait to play.

Cockpit view is fun for immersion reasons, and it was fun in PGR3 to have the perspective change depending on if the wheel of the car you were driving was on the right or left, but it's not a killer. Now the multi-screen setup would be awesome, but you need 3 360's and 3 copies of the game (on top of 3 screens)

I'm debating... should I send you "I hate you" note now or give UPS some time?

I just finished a free run race so I can practice. It's so hard to play with this steering wheel but it feels like I'm in an arcade so I like it. Plus the game started playing my favorite Orbital song of all time after I finished the race. This game has my seal of approval.

Picked it up today at Circuit City. They give you a free 20 dollar 360 game with purchase. Unfortunately their $20 game list is lacking. I ended up with Lego Star Wars II.

So what regions is everyone going to be starting out in?

Asia. I want to get ahold of an Impreza WRX STI as quickly as possible. Of course, Europe might be nice as well, as I have soft spot for some of the Lotus and Opel models as well.

Going with Europe, lots of Lotus love here.

No BMW love? M3 for me as soon as I have the money.

Its on its way from Gamefly. Should be here tomorrow.

I'll probably start with good old USofA. Mustang and the GT40 alone are enough to make that decision for me. Nissan is US too isnt it? Got to drive a souped up version of my real car dontchaknow.

I'm disappointed to see only M3 from BMW. None the less, Aston Martin and TVR... Europe it is!

If the game had Ford GT90 or Ford Shelby GR-1... I would have gone with NA.

PLease someone with the wheel post some impressions. I'm sorely tempted by it, but wondering how it works sitting on your lap.

Great racing with everybody tonight. Can't wait we all know the tracks a little better

I might post more detailed impressions tomorrow, but the short version is that the game and the wheel are awesome. It actually works pretty well sitting in my lap, but I do have a low couch. As for the pedals, I put a heavy ottoman in front of them to keep them from slipping.

Some pics of Lupus and I battling it out:

Shortly after the dreaded pit maneuver. You can almost see Lupus giving me the finger as the spin starts

Lupus staring COOP straight in the face before I blast by in a haze of rubber and smoke. Be sure to check out the detail on the treadmarks in the bottom pic.

This game is *AWSOME*

Awesome shots, Stylez. I regret not saving some of those replays.

My very first abomination. I'm so sorry.

I'm planning to start in Asia too, assuming the most recent Honda Integra handling is just as sublime as in the original. Scuby goodness also appeals--and you can't beat the insane speed kick from a fully suped up NSX.

Hurry up next Friday!

Lupus and I had an absolutely dreadful 2 player A-class race with Stock Ferarries. The amount of spinouts and oversteers was rediculous. I think I'll stick with my D, C, and B class rides for a little while longer

I agree, we had a BLAST last night playing. Bennard, Lupus, and Stylez are fun opponents. I wasn't in any of the cool pics since I was typically so far behind though.

I took Europe as my home region so that I can work my way faster up to some awesome Aston Martin action; I do miss some of the Japanese and American rides though.

What I'm looking forward to is when we're all more familiar with the tracks and good enough at passing that we can have close races without always inadvertently sending someone off the track! I had some 8-player races that Lupus also joined in on with guys from GamingTrend, and holy crap, that was nuts. People smashing and flying all over the place. I tried calling out when I was passing anyone (since you don't have easy peripheral vision, but it didn't seem to help. Felt really bad about knocking around some of the guys who didn't see that I was taking the inside line and wound up smashing into me and rebounding. The only time I was frustrated with being hit was when someone (I never saw who) in one of those big races smashed into my right rear bumper on a long straightaway and spun me off the track, taking me completely out of the race. I can't imagine how that was accidental on a long wide straightaway.

You guys are so tempting me....

I got to play for about an hour this morning. If you loved the original, you'll love this. I'm actually more excited about this game than Halo 3.

Farscry when you slammed into that barrier in New York I'm sure you could have heard that crunch halfway around the map

The more you learn the tracks the less likely you guys will be racing together

Unless of course you all are miraculously close to the limit.

I want to get this game, but I spend too much time Sim racing on my computer as it is. But my league is on hiatus for a couple of weeks...

Yeah, that was painful. I actually winced. The sound on that crash was awful in a good way!

Must resist....

Waitasec...Fars...it's BAD to run people off the road in this game?

<--- needs re-education from Burnout.

I'm not usually a sim driving fan, but all the enthusiasm here has me wanting to at least give the demo a shot.
