Let's talk anime.

Nothing brings the warm and fuzzies like Fruits Basket.

I've just started watching Chrono Crusade this week. Been enjoying it. Seems a bit more lighthearted than Elfen Lied. Chrono Crusade feels a lot like Trigun in how it's presented so it is almost giving me a nostalgic feeling.

I haven't gotten quite that bad yet myself, but I am pushing the need for a new HDD. Well, I've gone past that point, I suppose. I have a 300 gig HDD full up, and I've got probably another 20gig of stuff in Azureus saying 'no space, noob'.

We've been watching something pronounced "Es-cry" but I don't know how to spell it. Interesting. Reminds me a lot of Macross for some reason I'm trying to figure out.

S-Cry-ED, perhaps? If there's a character named Straight Cougar whose trademark line is 'I've shrunk the world again', then that would be it.

This is completely true, especially the bits with Tohru and Kisa. <333333

I don't know if I've mentioned Lucky Star, but it's awesome slice of life hilarity. I've been watching a lot of those types of shows lately, for some reason.

On a different note is something that I don't recall seeing mentioned; Nana. It's drama, aimed at older folks. It's a slower paced story about two girls, both named Nana moving to Tokyo and stuff. It's kind of hard to describe without going into deep spoilers, but it's pretty good stuff.

And now, for a tangent. Lots of folks have asked about 4chan and /b/. There's been a wiki link around here somewhere, but I don't feel that Wiki really covers the essence that is 4chan and more importantly, /b/. So, with that in mind, I've turned to Urban Dictionary. Both the following links are pretty tame, but they could possibly be NSFW if your workplace is rather strict.

4chan

/b/

Anyway, that pretty much sums up what /b/ and 4chan are. First definitions as of this posting are the accurate ones.

Fruits Basket was sort of cute until the end, where it went so utterly over the top with the melodrama that I couldn't look at the screen anymore without vomiting.

I personally discounted the last few episodes. It was a pleasant change of pace from the manga(I consider this to be vastly superior, and while similar, far more human, if that makes sense). If that wasn't enough reason to like the manga better though, it does run on for a bit longer, and to the best of my knowledge, it's still on-going.

Other stuff I'm watching that I couldn't remember earlier: Seto no Hanayome - Boy at the sea during summer. Boy drowns, and is saved by a mermaid. The catch? Her family is Yakuza.

So I finished up Chrono Crusade last night. It was a very :'( ending. Was talking with some people on 4chan about the manga... it is VERY different from what I have heard and I think I like the anime better.

Damn that's a nice... oh wait, the tattoo, yeah, that's cool too.

I finally got around to starting One Piece (again). I'm about 40 episodes in, only about 1000 to go.

One Piece isn't nearly that long; they haven't even broken 400 eps, let alone that many

Some stuff I've been watching lately:

Code Geass: Interesting concept all in all. Kinda hard to describe, but there's lots of Pizza Hut ads.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni(When the Cicadas Cry): Murder Mystery series. Gruesome, but really good. Oh, and there's hot twins with large oogaba.

I watched Higurashi no Naku Koro ni a while back and it is indeed very good. I was surprised by how scary it actually was. You gotta love the intro music on that one, it really sets the mood. Apparently theres a sequel called Higurashi no Naku Koroni Kai but I haven't gotten my hands on it yet.

That's because it hasn't started airing yet. It's currently set for July 07, and will comprise what's known as the 'answer' arcs to the show.

On the topic of shows that haven't aired yet, is anyone else looking forward to the Shakugan no Shana sequel?

My wife and I really, really loved this series. Its sweetness was over-the-top at times, but, somehow, it worked.

I've never really bought anime series before (just movies), and I'm starting to get into series now. I love cowboy bebop, outlaw star, full metal alchemist, etc (as has been mentioned above).

So I'm trying very hard to find a way to get all the cowboy bebop episodes, and I'm seeing quite a few options out there. Perfect Sessions sounds awesome, but I don't want to pay 350$ just to make sure I'm getting decent quality. The Remixes (complete sessions?) look alright, but I'm not sure how I should go about buying all of them. Any suggestions?

The perfect sessions is just the collectors edition with the soundtrack. You can get the remixed sessions and the soundtracks separately.

The remixes do have completely Re-mastered and Remixed and newly animated scenes with 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound, so it may be worth it.

What prices are you finding them for? I see them at ~$15-19 each session (DVD) so it shouldn't be the $350 you say for the Perfect Sessions.

the $350 was just for the collector's edition perfect sessions, which is the only set I can find that has all of them together. Just trying not to have to buy them piecemeal. Think I should just get each DVD separately? Ordering off Amazon or something?

Amazon has a bundle of them all but I'm not sure if they are the normal ones or the Remix sessions with the goodies.

I'd also watch buying off Amazon. I ordered something off there recently and the seller tried to pass off Hong Kong knockoffs as the real McCoy. They don't vet their sellers, so watch the descriptions very carefully if you want to make sure you're getting the official disks.

We order our through our local Borders, so we get hands on service and we can see before we buy.

As far as Cowboy Bebop goes, I bought my disks previewed at my local videostore when they had a clearance but I'd like to get the new ones. I already have all the soundtracks, though Thanks for the clarification on that.

Deep Discount DVD

This place is 100% legit. For normal, day to day purchases, this is my online retailer of choice. Cheaper than Amazon, and no chance of getting some shaky HK rip off disc.

Right Stuf Intl - Right Stuf is where I buy stuff on sale. They're actually a licensor/distributor of some outstanding shows, and between Black Thursday sales(my wallet screams in pain when the flier goes out) plus the odd 40% off sale, I've given them a ton of change.

As to the Perfect Sessions collection, $350 is ridiculous. I bought that ages ago when it came out for $200. It's no different that I can see; I've compared mine with piecemeal discs, and I actually had to replace disc 5 once when a dog got a hold of it with a piecemeal disc, and it was no different that I could see.

I do all my ordering though Right Stuf, Deep Discount DVD, or occasionally DVD Pacific. All have good deals if you keep an eye out for them. I got all the remix discs of Bebop, and it looks like just buying them individually would be the least expensive way to go at the moment.

Thanks for all the info in this thread! I need to go through and pick out a few new series to watch.

I just finished Genshiken which surprised me with both how meta-otaku and how enjoyable a commonplace topic could be.
Bleach has finally gotten good again - the Bounto arc got really, really bogged down.
I miss Death Note, I was really enjoying it and hopefully I can find something to fill its place.

I recently picked up a PSP and I've been watching Honey and Clover on my commute. It's another great series with fleshed out characters rather than caricatures.

After Honey and Clover is done I'll need something else to fill the void, so I'm looking for another series to line up in advance. I checked out Gasaraki but I got a version in Japanese without subtitles. My year of Japanese plus two vacations in Japan are sadly not enough to follow along.

Wait, what? I haven't been keeping up with it. Is it over?

I hate to break it to you, but being subtitled in english probably won't add much add to the "clarity" of the plot..
I'm working my way through Speed Grapher (ep. 9 right now) and it's turned out better than I expected so far. Granted, I'm starting to see hints of it becoming a weekly-big-battle-shounen-action title, and that tends to turn me off a title.

Erk, sorry if I was unclear. Death Note was licensed a few months back and became much harder to find as a result. It's still going.

If that's the case, then you need to find better places to get your fansubs from. Luckily, I'm a wealth of such knowledge, and you also have a PM incoming.

I just finished watching Speed Grapher and even though it got kinda repetitive towards the middle and the animation got pretty mediocre I still enjoyed it quite a bit. For some reason it just has a lot of style or something. Oh and I still have the intro music stuck in my head a week later.

I'm also keeping up with Nodame Cantabile, Darker than Black and Claymore and so far they're all turning out great.

Black Lagoon is one I just started and I'm still not too impressed with it but I'm only four episodes in so I'll wait and see.

And thanks for reminding me about Death note, I definitely need to finish that one.

I enjoyed Black Lagoon quite a bit, once I learned to disconnect my brain completely and just absorb the kicks, murders and 'splodes.
