I've heard some awful stories about the intercoolers, but I picked one up on impulse for $10 from Walmart, and while it's VERY loud, it seems to be working great. Does anyone know if there's a way to get temperature readings from the 360's internals without using an active temperature sensor?
My friend had to pay £80 to get his 360 repaired. ALmost makes the £60 I paid for two years' cover look like good value.
What do I get?
The shaft, apparently.
I just got my replacement. I learned the following:
-my current warrranty is "consumed"
-a new warranty is $100.00 instead of $50.00
-the "new plan" would only provide me a refurb for a replacement
-EB is passing on the rape time fun to the consumer
Where do you live? That is just ridiculous. They are just using Microsoft's warranty and charging you $100 bucks to have the refurb faster. I bet this is almost pure profit for them.
Is there something wrong with me?
Yes. You bought something from EB!
At least Best Buy gives you 30 days, and it is a straight up replacement.
And, I actually had to return a video cable because it was causing red death lights once in a while, and would not switch to HD at all. (The switch went all back and forthy but internally, did squat)
New cable, presto, no more issues.
Xbox the third is now failing..
It happens again. Every time I'm ready to buy one of these things, their apparent short life convinces me not to.
And now, seeing as I jinxed myself 3 posts up, mine has passed on as well.

Man that's scary, I really hope mine keeps working

Hope may be all you have. In the meantime, drink some more kool-aid.
This is pretty absurd. How long until there is an exploding 360 and MS has to issue a recall?
I doubt they would ever issue a recall

They'll all be replaced soon enough!
Yeah, it's like a car I used to have. I never had to change the oil, I just kept pouring new stuff in as the old stuff leaked out.

What a great feature!

Hot swapable oil changes rock.

When I cold start it the video output is dark and flickers.
If I fiddle with the video cable it will do 1 of 4 things.
1. Flicker worse/Get Darker
2. Go Black
3. Give me a bizarre zoomed in view
4. Settle down and behaveOh, and the "return" policy at EB for 360s specifically is 7 days. I did that extended warranty thing on the 25th.
Is there something wrong with me?
Have you considered that there's something wrong with your power outlets?
Bears mentioning, though. At my rental hellhole with the 70 amp service I have all my stuff plugged into APC Voltage regulators - TV, home theater, computers, everything of value. And I see they were a good investment when the refridgerator kicks on and I see them regulating the voltage to the TV and the 360.

Any specific model? I'll be moving back to the more primitive side of the park and won't have access to commercial power. Solar/Propane Generator at my first outpost, and then Diesel Generator at my main home. At the diesel generator place I've heard stories of digital clocks running fast, and you can definitely see surges in the lighting. I'm not even sure if I'm going to take the 360 and TV with me, but if I do, I think it would be wise to have a regulator.
