ARMA and Dslyecxi tactical guide released!

Some of you lucky folk should see ARMA in stores today. In celebration of the release BIS media collaborator Dslyecxi has released a very in depth tactical guide which makes one hell of a read. You can view it here

I'll be looking in stores today.

BIS media collaborator Dslyecxi

Haha.

The link you have is presumably from the NaturalPoint e-mail, which means it links to the "Situational Awareness" section and not the start of the guide. The proper link is:

Hope you guys enjoy it, by the way.

Indeed it was Dslyecxi and thank you for cleaning up my sloppy posting

BTW no offense meant by my post you really are the best thing to happen to BIS in the last while. Your articles are interesting and well-researched as well as great promotional material for the game. Keep up the good work and hope to see you in the field!

Welcome to GWJ, as well

None taken, no worries.

Welcome to GWJ, as well :)

Thanks.

I didn't see it in any stores today

I'll take a look at FS today to see if it's around. I need to pick the wife up some crac...I mean a WOW time card...

That tac guide is a damn good read. I think I'll have my squad members take a look through that before joining me in Project Reality BF2. It'll definitely help keep em alive.

I think it got delayed until next week.

I haven't been able to find any system requirements for ARMA on the web. Will you need a hefty rig to run it?

I doubt it. Did you try the demo?

Argh. I called EB and the rep was clueless as usual. I'm not sure when I'll get my mitts on it at this point.

Looks like Atari hosed the distribution of this one too. Not at Walmart, FS, Best Buy, or EB. No one even has it on their "coming soon" lists...

This is why some of these games companies need to move to electronic distribution. Cut out the retailers.

As you wish buttercup - US Link.

Argh.

If it was on Steam I'd go for it but I'm weary of this "Atari store" and judging by how well worn my Ofplash discs are from multiple installs I'd really like to have a copy in my grubby armchair-military mitts.

No, my first name ain't buttercup. It's Funken... Mr. Funken if you're nasty.

Heads up guys: Amazon US has this in stock and is shipping. I will have my copy tomorrow.

Can't wait to try out Track IR with it.

I'd love to get this, but I think my PC Upgrade days are over. Enjoy and let us know how it goes.

It's all manner of awsome, at least it was with the demo. Amazon.ca hasn't even heard of it yet either *grumble*

Thanks for the heads up! I'll put my order in tonight. I won't have it until Monday, but that's ok.

The system requirements are pretty light really. Not to sound like a broken record, but did you try the demo?

Found a copy at Best Buy tonight. Played through the first 5 tutorials - highly recommend that. I might even invest in a TRACK IR for this one. The graphics are pretty good, the audio is ok - dont expect ear shattering gun fire although the tanks and STRYKER rumble pretty good. The gun fire at least for the tutorial sounds somewhat authentic, very distinctive clink of the M-16. havent played a combat mission - wanted to run the tutorials. The Command System takes some getting used to as does the realistic aiming, but I think this could be a great one for those who enjoy "tactical" shooters and have some patience.

I meant to grab the demo over the weekend but it slipped my mind. I really like what I've seen in the videos I've watched and Dslyecxi's guide looks great. I should have more to say sometime during this week.

Got the game on Friday and played over the weekend. It feels a lot like Op Flashpoint (which is a good thing). My only concern is the amount of buggy stuff I've seen in the campaign and single player missions. AI convoy gets stuck and won't move. AI helicopters crash for no apparent reason. AI teammates die quickly leaving me to fight alone. Now I know the AI was not that great in OpF, but these guys seem truly brain dead. I get the feeling this is going to be a MP only title for me, unless some of this stuff can get patched.

Do you have the AI set to expert? I know there's a few discrepancies with the game and how it worked in flashpoint but apparently the AI reacts better to having the "danger" order given. Regarding the AI helos crashing and the convoys, that's worrisome because they ended up getting it (mostly) right in Opflash and damn amazing in the WGL mod.

I noticed the same thing even in the singleplayer missions so I just assumed command of the team and micromanaged the squad employment which doesnt really help in the Campiagn since you play a "fixed" member of the unit. Hearing "Damn 1 - is down" gets to be old :).
